Please tell your viewer friend that he doesn't need to watch it, quite simple really. Don't switch it on. We don't, but we fully accept that there is an audience who like and need this programme. Hal'vay that the Nine Days will one day succeed in teaching us all, its (obviously) much needed lesson. For that, the only switch your viewer needs is the one in his mind. Yours respectfully another 'viewer' P.S Your more traditional viewers could really be at Shiurim, or studying 'avot oobanim' in their local Bet Knesset/Shul. Seculars do not avail themselves of these options, hence the need for this type of programme.

Yaakov ,   Modiin, ISrael   (07.22.09)
Kol Hakavod to IBA for their program on parshat hashavua! As a religious person I am happy that secular Israelis (as well as religious) are being more connected to Jewish texts. Secular Israelis must take control of these texts and embrace them as their own. Don't listen to anyone who tells you differently!

Logically if he has left the religious environment he has a grudge. When he choses to host a program against which he has a grudge which face of this program will he show to the unlearned public? Not with love but with underlying resentment. The Rabbi is right

Jerusalem is not just the place where we convene; it is the place that enables the convention. -Rabbi Dr. Donniel Hartman, Shalom Hartman Institute, Jerusalem, Israel - http://www.hartman.org.il/Opinion_C_View_Eng.asp?Article_Id=372

which an intelligent viewer can choose to a)accept b)reject or c)not watch at all. This gentleman doesn't hide his background, so it's our choice. The rabbi is right, for the rabbi. TV is a tool we can choose or reject, at will. Sadly, most of the contents are quite 'rejectable'...but IBA is on the whole, a little more palatable than the two other commercial choices.

Ariel ,   Earth   (07.23.09)
It is simple respect to the text.
8. That's not this Rabbi's problem
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (07.23.09)
As most , if not all , of the UTJ members don't even have a TV set . I oppose the reading of "mizmor Shir Leshabbat" at 7 AM on Israel radio , so we are quits . A secular with a religious background can present the "parashat Hashavua" , he at least knows something about what he is talking .
9. Come on
B ,   Chicago   (07.24.09)
Would there be a problem if a religious guy taught people about secular things if he had a secular childhood background.
