1. there are better & cheaper solutions instead of biometrics

The Israeli ID card is a joke that can be easily forged. Its an oversized piece of paper with your name, date of birth, parents name, sex & ID number. They then glue a passport size picture onto it and then laminate it the thing certainly needs replacing if we want something that can't be forged but biometrics is going to cost billions of dollars as a database is built and & things like police scanners developed. Instead of biometrics why not use the simple chip & pin technology used on modern credit cards. You can have on a chip the basic information thats on the current cards. On the outside possible a digitally scanned photograph and your name & ID number. Also it should be the size of a credit card so it fits in your wallet instead of having to carry it seperately which is annoying. All off the shelf technology so its cheaper & easier to implement and non contreversia as its not biometricsl but it will also stop forgery.
