Having visited Morocco last year, I can confirm that what the article says about religious tolerance in Morocco is true. Where else in the Muslim world would you find a synagogue literally across the street from a mosque, and just down the street from a Catholic church? In fact, this tolerance is actually written into their constitution. The only limitation to this tolerance is that their constitution only protects mono-theistic religions (Islam, Judaism, Christianity). Others such as Hinduism, Taoism, etc. are not protected. Also, we found the people of Morocco to be very friendly. In fact, their hospitality to strangers is legendary. Morocco has a long history of friendly relations with Europe and the United States, and many Europeans and Americans make their permanent residence there. Although all school children there learn Arabic (naturally), by high school they must learn a second language. We were told that most choose English because it is the language of business. We were very impressed with Morocco. It should serve as a model for how it is possible for Christians, Jews, and Muslims to live peacefully together.
