I wouldn't let your Jewish professor friend get carried away over what he describes as "religious militants" in Israel. Israel is NOT a theocracy and the overwhelming majority of Israels are secular. In fact, Israel is probably more liberal, and more tolerant of homosexuality, than many other countries. For instance, unlike the U.S., Israel doesn't subscribe to the idiotic "Don't ask, don't tell" policy, and doesn't discharge a competent soldier because of who he happens to be in love with...as we have in this country.

Iran doesn't have homosexuals....
33. #23 AK- wrong
Lisa   (08.03.09)
wrong! The 'world' whoever it is in your mind- was outraged- about Jewish children, Palestinian children being murdered-. yes, I know, for YOU Palestinian children don't count for much either... read the TBs--- this is 'selective outrage'- good choice of words. So, in your mind it is ok to murder gay people? Whoever was the murderer, whatever his or her background- it was still MURDER- and we all have a right to be outraged- murder is WRONG in every country in the wolrd- Israel included- the 'world' is allowed to be outraged. Of course you are going to claim it is anti-semitic- the old catch phrase that stops every conversation-. Do you have any illusion that Israel does not have haters and bigots among the population? Now that would be a miracle!

Avinoam your asumption that this tragedy was perpetrated by a conservative rests my case. You have asumed something which has no proof at all. I had a very close friend who was killed by his lover in the states. The gay community is not above violence. I would NEVER incriminate any section before proof is brought. Back in the US they say INNOCENT until proven guilty and you have just passed even though no facts have come to light. As for Avi #29,I said it was a tragedy and your asumption that I dont feel the tragic loss is undue. None the less, you will allow me to say that your nievity is sweet and endearing but still nieve. If you think the gay leaders will not abuse the deaths of these young people for its own agenda, stick around and watch the show. I have seen it many times already. Their cinicle use will become apparent with time.
35. #34 I live in the real world
Avinoam ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (08.03.09)
I made no assumptions, I made a deduction and went with the most likely suspect. 1. this appears to be a hate crime - random indiscriminate shooting into a youth centre for gays and lesbians 2. conservatives are the only ones voicing distaste of homosexuals In all likelihood this crime was perpetrated by a conservative, with a high probability that he is religious. There is a slight chance that this was a hate crime by an Arab or a terrorist attack by a Palestinian. Also, I did not slander a specific person or small group of people, I made a very clear and obvious deduction. So your "innocent until proven guilty" argument fails. If a man is lying in the street, I'm going to look for the car that ran him over, not for a horse. It would be ridiculous if all people with cars suddenly voiced outrage at the discrimination.
36. #3 Hopeless!!!!!
Nick ,   Sweden   (08.04.09)
Israel does never compare itself to its neighbors in any sense, so why compare the "safety" of being gay? This is REALLY not the issue here. This absolutely horrible incident caused a great deal of attebntion in Sweden as it happened on the day of the very large Pride parade in Stockholm, the peak of a one week long happy celebration... Hence the headlines - NO OTHER HIDDEN AGENDAS, believe me. It seems like you almost justify this but saying, BUT HEY; WE*RE BETTER THAN THE ARABS STILL. So sad and hopeless to hear! Sure, TLV is a bubble, however even that reflected by the violent country surrounding it. Sad but true.
