1. Now, MK Tzipi Livni looks old enough to be PM.
Rivkah   (08.02.09)
2. #1 - Rivkah what an incisive comment to this article...
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (08.02.09)
you moron.
3. Culture of Hate
Rami of NAzareth ,   Israel   (08.02.09)
First it was ok to hate arabs, then haridi jews, then black jews, now gay... no one should be surprised.. as the culture of hate is part of Israeli society...
4. Livni looking for voters
Zion   (08.02.09)
Investigation comes before unsustainable words and playing darts
5. so sad....
female ,   TA   (08.02.09)
As a Dutch citizen living in Tel Aviv, I'm schocked and sadddened by this terrible crime. The religious party Shas have blamed homosexuals for a recent small earthquake in the North of Israel and of the outbreak of the Mexican flu. I'm proud that my home country the Netherlands had a great Gay Parade in Amsterdam yesterday, where so many people from diffferent cultural backgrounds and different sexual preferences enjoyed the Parade without any incidents....Israel should seperate RELIGION & STATE, so they can finally join the 21st century!! My condolences to the families of the victims
6. One more reason to keep opposition leader there: in oppositi
Ariel Ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah, Efraim,   (08.02.09)
7. the gay MK speaking of hate crime here is actually Lesbian
observer   (08.02.09)
you should sharpen your sense of differential diagnosis. You can deny identity of Shelly Yacimovich but you can't deny her lesbian identity based on not finding that on wikipedia. Dana is not MK, is she!
8. Secular Israel
Juan ,   Spain   (08.02.09)
Opposition leader Tzipi Livni (Kadima) told those on hand: "I came here to show my support for those who live in the proud gay community and are grieving over their dead. I hope that this terrible day will also give you strength and mark a turning point. This day should give children the strength to tell their parents 'I'm gay'. This day should give parents the strength to love their children for who they are. This day should give the strength to make a change within Israeli society, so that it will be proud of its gay community. ------------------------------------------------ And that just about sums up what is wrong with secular Israel today: No respect for God or His commandments. Plenty of pride in their sin. Including the sin of murder. I pray for Israel to repent.
9. MEDIA HYSTERIA
DAVID ,   JUDEA   (08.02.09)
Any murder is upsetting and wrong but the way the media and some political personna's carry on is plain hysteria. When people get shot and killed on the roads here, one does not here an outcry like this. It makes one wonder who realy runs the media and why there are some serious double standards. This whole subculture of Yafut Nefesh people are only connected to their part of their universe and do not give a damn about anything else. Besides that, did they arrest the person who did it and if not how do we know it is a hate crime. So it seems that this incident is being milked out into something , before all the facts are known. But living in a media dictatorship, one can see how judgement is already passed and implemented.
10. Good. Tzipora and Dana the two of you stay on this topic for
Genuine Tosefta ,   Tveria   (08.02.09)
good. It fits your personalities, knowledge and experience much more than the national and international arenas. and Dana, before you have the right to protest anything in Israel, have you already done your long overdue military service? what about your brother in New York?
11. They don't know what the shooters motives were yet
Eytan ,   Kokav Ya'akov   (08.02.09)
All the pontification and protesting a shooting spree is worthless. It could have been an organized crime hit or a jealous lover, we just don't know. One thing is certain, if it is not a hate crime we will not hear any apologies from the gay community who is condemning the religious right wing. Talk about intolerance!
12. Every murder is a hate crime
AK   (08.02.09)
13. Gay youth shooting
Ann ,   Indianapolis USA   (08.02.09)
And, you can be sure it was an Orthodox fanatic who did it. They have no respect for living and letting live. It is sad. We Jews do not all live the same way, and they should not expect us to. By being gay-these young people were doing no one any harm....none at all.
14. Gay youth shooting-culture of hate
Ann ,   Indianapolis USA   (08.02.09)
I will have to agree with Rami. His comment about hating Arabs-I feel Israelis cause as much of the problems as the Arabs do. Both are guilty-too bad. Peace will never come.
15. another fanatic speaks
Ann ,   Indianapolis USA   (08.02.09)
This is a big problem with Israel-the Orthodox will not live and let live. They can follow the laws as they see fit, but not all agree wit them. The Scriptures were written as men saw the world then. I do not believe that G-d said one HAD to do this, and this, and that. G-d made us, and gave us feel will-we each have to use it in our own way...hopefully for the good of all.
16. #3 Rami - people in glass houses...
Tahl ,   Ashdod, Israel   (08.02.09)
Well, at least in Israel, the vast majority is shocked by this murder, and everybody is denouncing it in the harshest words. Remind me please, how does YOUR society accept gay people? How does YOUR society accept women who socialize with men? How many "honor killings" have we witnessed in your society, in this last year alone? From the woman's OWN FAMILY, no less! And when that happens routinely, do we hear anything but defeaning silence from your leaders? What a hypocrite you are to lecture to us about a "culture of hate". You know the saying. People living in glass houses should be very wary of throwing stones at others.
17. #6 Ariel your comments are offensive
Avi ,   Israel   (08.02.09)
may i remind you that tow young people were gunned down last night because they were gay,,enough of your hatred , as a religious jew you are consumed with hatred those two fine young people were murdered because of hatered , the very same hatred that you encourage, shame on you,
18. Livnis speech wasnt about solidarity it was government bashi
zionist forever   (08.03.09)
Livni it seems is showing how desperate she is for votes going to say she is there for solidarity and because she is upset about whats happened but then she tries to pin the blame on the government. She went for the womans vote in the election, sonce then she has been talking all pro Israeli arabs trying to get their vote at the next election and now she is trying to get the gay vote. Although what has happened is a tragedy I hope that we are not going to see some kind of nationwide gay solidarity campaigns or pro gay legislation which Meeretz are after like taking in all the oppressed gays from arab lands. Just the same way that the killer must be punished nether the gay community or politicians like Livni should be allowed to profit from whats happened.
19. #18 zionist for ever show some respect
Leah ,   Ramat HaSharon   (08.03.09)
Before you start spewing your usual venom you might want to remember the two young people who were murdered in cold blood presumably by a crazed gun man full of hate, yet you take this opportunity to fan the flames of hatred. Show some sensetivity and intelligence for once , how about building bridges between people, respect and understanding is this the way of a religious zionist?
20. Dear Eitan # 11
Gay guy ,   tel aviv   (08.03.09)
Dear Eitan , as a gay man i have been blaimed for swine disease, casuing earthquakes, been called mentaly sick, filth, an abonimation , a plague a pervert, etc etc and all this is from a serving member of the Knesset (MK Nissim Ze`ev of Shas). Please tell me what would you say if those words were spoken by an American politician to describe the jews in America? Im sure you would be screaming anti semitism from the roof tops, yet here in Israel it is the accepted norm to incite hatred towards your fellow jews who also happen to be gay. And you ask us why we are angry? They attack us with words and now they attack us with bullets. I knew something like this was going to happen it was just a matter of time before someone acted on such words. inciting hatred as MK Nissim Ze`ev did can lead to violence and is not acceptable in a democratic country. 2 young people were murdered in cold blood on saturday night. we will never forget and neither should you, that hate kills.
21. #15, Ann, why do you think that the murderer was Orthodox?
AK   (08.03.09)
Until the killer is apprehended all we know is that he was a masked, black clad cold blooded killer. Absolutely nothing else. We don't know if he is religious or not; what religion, if any, he follows; what is his nationality; if he has military training or not. All we know is that he was a cold-blooded killer who has total disregard for human life.
22. gay community
sad ,   israel   (08.03.09)
ohlmert's daughter seems to be very proud of her status. wonder if she is the only one in the family.
23. to #22 olmert he corupt idiot who will sell

24. to #17 your people my people I thought you r all jews.
ghostq   (08.03.09)
no shame on you for not seeing the main problem here, r you different people now, kinda weird when you yourself call for peace, at lease don't hide behind slogans you don't believe in.
25. to #20 funny but they blame me for everything as well
ghostq   (08.03.09)
and I am straight. mmm
26. Hate crimes in Israel - it just doesn't go
Talula ,   Israel   (08.03.09)
Sorry to bring this up again. But 6 million people were murdered - six million innocent people were slaughtered, their only 'crime' was that they were Jews, Gypsies, Gays. This state was born because of that hatred, thousands and thousands of young men lost their lives to realize the State of Israel so we wouldn't have to live in fear of hate crimes. And this is what we have now? Young kids being murdered because they are gay? Because someone doesn’t approve of their lifestyle? Someone cannot accept that not all people are the same? Someone felt it OK to kill them because of a difference in existence? It makes me dizzy and sick to think that I live in the same country as this cold blooded murdering coward. Together with terrorists, people that commit crimes against children and anyone committing a hate crime should be executed. It's just, it's right and it's the only way.
27. Let them all rot
Yonatan ,   tel aviv, israel   (08.03.09)
i think that both terrorists and hate-crimers should be dealt with and punished as criminals. once you put a label on the crime, it forms a justification in the event that public opinion changes. Life letting terrorists go as political prisoners. Motive should be used to prosecute, but not as a crime in itself or the legal standing won't have long standing effects Thoughts?
28. ghostey give it a rest
avi ,   Israel   (08.03.09)
I think weve had enouugh of ignorance and hatred for one week dear. how about building bridges between people ? How about repect and acceptance of others who are different from yourself? Im going to try harder how about you?
