1. There will never be peace...everybody knows it
Scott ,   Australia   (08.04.09)
There can never , ever be peace... only when one side erases the other. The only reason why the arabs have not erased Israel is because they lack the physical ability to do it...for now....They have and are still trying. As we all know... if the arabs ever held the upper hand...there would not be a single Jew left in Israel.
2. The truth comes out
NYC Girl   (08.04.09)
Apparently, there's at least one academic who is clear-headed enough to look down from the Ivory Tower and see what's happening in the real world. Good for him.
3. “The Fatah Movement never recognized Israel”
Jake   (08.04.09)
This came from the mouth of the most moderate Palestinian of all -Mohammed Dahlan. Need one say more?
4. No peace
AJ - Raalte   (08.04.09)
No real peace will ever be possible between Israel and the Muslims, as that's against their religion. There is only survival. Stay strong, Israel. It's the only way!
5. When Islam seeks the God of all life over the god of terror
Jae ,   yerushaliyim israel   (08.04.09)
and intolerance than we can talk. until that distant day its better to change arab kids' textbooks away from hate than it is to convince a holocaust denier(abbas) to support israel as the jewish state.
6. Who`s fooling who ?
Nora ,   Tel Aviv   (08.04.09)
We are the ones, repeatedly fooling ourselves, that the Palestinians accept a Jewish Homeland called Israel along a Palestinian Entity.
7. Brilliant and insightful
Sarah B ,   New York City, USA   (08.04.09)
Wonderful editorial piece. It's high time someone came out and announced that the emperor has no clothes. We ignore Professor Rosenfeld to our peril.
8. if it is to be Sparta let it be our Sparta
avramele   (08.04.09)
A smaller vigilant state with a Jewish majority within demographically defenseable and morally sustainable borders... Zionism is the dream of self-empowerment and a new and liberated Jewish people --not our self subjugation to a neo-haredi messianism of zealots and yes whackos.
9. It is amazing
Sam ,   ME   (08.04.09)
It is amazing that people (the jews) who suffered that much through out their history are ok with causing the same suffereing to other people and the problem that they cannot see it. Just blows my mind. I guess it is a human thing :-( I bet i will get lots of yin for yan tackbalks as usual
10. cliche
Shmuel ,   Israel   (08.04.09)
two cliches apply: 1-sad but true 2-to secure peace is to prepare for war. Cheers.
11. #9, Don't be amazed. Address the issue at hand.
Jake   (08.04.09)
12. Philosophy
Michael ,   Haifa   (08.04.09)
This seems to be a philosopher in the Hobbesean School..."short, brutish and nasty"
13. We all know this. Now what do we do now?
jo   (08.04.09)
Peace is impossible. The Gaza withdrawal did not work, no model peace loving state thriving there and Palestinian leaders with Arabic double talk - do they think we do not understand Arabic. The hypocrisy - honour of it. Enough. Now we have to think of what we have to do and live with. We should start doing something
14. Waste of time
frank ,   toronto, canada   (08.04.09)
this article had zero value add. rehashing tales with no analysis at all.
15. To #9 - Constant Amazement
Ron ,   L.A., USA   (08.04.09)
Dear Sam, You act as though the Arabs are the victims in all of this. Have you forgotten, or maybe you weren't aware of the fact, that Jews have been kicked out of every place we've ever been. The Arabs have the rest of the middle east. Let them go back to where they came from. What's the adage, good fences make good neighbors? Not having Arabs in Israel would piss of the M.E. and the rest of the world, and no other middle east country would sign a 'peace' treaty with us. But at least the internal problems would be solved.
16. to #5
(08.04.09)
Arab kids don't need books to see the cruelty and inhumanity of what is called israel, it is crystal clear. If you think you could blind the western media with your fraud and lies, you are dreaming.
17. Why do we always have to find a solution #13?
Genuine Tosefta ,   Tveria   (08.04.09)
there is no solution, forget about it the only thing that matters is to keep the State of Israel secure for this we need to keep all the territories we took back from Arbs after 1948 We should stop looking for solutions because first of all Israel will be the one making the irreversible concessions and second these concessions will be in futile, peace will not be achieved. Arbs never make Peace with anyone, look around the region
18. #9 Truly amazing
Genuine Tosefta ,   Tveria   (08.04.09)
Arbs never make Peace with anyone not even with themselves, look around the region to all the wars and ethnic conflicts Iraq, the Cat and Mouse game between Lebanon and Syria, Syria in dispute with Turkey over Iskandur, Apartheid regime by Alawite minority in Syria, Jordan's under the surface bubbling civil war, Yemen murdering Christians and Jews, F. Arbia against allowing non-Muslims citizens, Egypt's continuing oppression of the native Copts, Sudan's Arbs genocidal war against Black Africans in Darfur, civil war in Algeria, Saharawi refugees and their stolen country by Morocco, Slavery of Blacks in Mauritania and Sudan, and on and on....... The biggest one is the war against women in the Middle East in all countries outside Israel
19. #14. There is nothing to analyze. The facts scream
Jake   (08.04.09)
for themselves. “The Fatah Movement never recognized Israel” was repeated at the Fatah convention, as well as the commitment to armed struggle against Israel. What's to analyze? What don't you understand?
20. Well said, #8
Cameron ,   USA   (08.04.09)
Always logically reasonable whenever possible, but with a sharp sword in ready reach, and a willingness to use it if pushed too far.
21. Excellent! Now, can you make the PM and MKs read it? Please?
Debbie   (08.04.09)
22. #13 Keep those great BIG eggs realdy to drop.(end)
Bernie ,   Erehwon, USA   (08.04.09)
23. To: No. 9
Sarah B ,   New York City, USA   (08.04.09)
Don't flatter yourself. No yin for yang (note correct spelling of "yang") here ..... your comment is, simply put, laughably ignorant. Sorry. Maybe next time.
24. To: No. 12
Sarah B ,   New York City, USA   (08.04.09)
You forgot "entirely accurate."
25. Actually there are some moderates/pragmatists
Zvi   (08.04.09)
SalaamFayyad seems to be a moderate. He's not part of any terrorist faction, either. Dr. Abu al Aish is definitively a moderate. Sari Nusseibeh is a moderate. With the exception of Fayyad, the common thread is that these people are never supported by world powers. Instead, psychopaths are inevitably chosen to lead the Pal people.
26. peace can be made only....
oded   (08.04.09)
when one side is bruised, battered, beaten -up and surrended.l ook at ww-1,2 and other main battles in recent history. the palis wil not get it out of their heads and systems, unless they are beaten, badly, and pushed to the other side of the jordan river. maybe then we'll have some chance to status quo- with them. same for hamas.
27. #12 Yeah, those kinds thrive in the Middle East
(08.04.09)
Just wondering for how longer, once ME goes nuclear...
28. You forgot to mention alliance with Iran
(08.04.09)
29. The only solution
Y ,   N   (08.04.09)
is to draw new borders between Israel/Jordan and Egypt. Eliminate any chance for a pali state. A pali stat will be a poor islamist led state and will only export terror. End this madness now! Draw new borders which puts most arabs in the surrounding arab states and Israel as a jewish state.
30. When oil runs out they won't have the money for war
Grigorius   (08.04.09)
