1. Is this the TROPHY by Rafael?
Doron ,   Israel   (08.07.09)
I saw a video about this defense years ago. What's taking so long to put it into use?
2. Sophisticacy

Technologically, Israeli military is worth admiration. Unfortunately, the sophisticated armaments are manned by coward soldiers.:)
3. to #1. yes is it.

Be patient. It's only being a few years. It takes time to fine tune , test, work out manafacturing processes, adapt to specific tanks etc. It'll be on Israeli tanks years before US + others put something like it on theirs. Congrats to RAFAEL. Hope they can make money selling it to others outside Israel.

Yes this is Trophy and its been in development a long time but never gone into full production. It wasn't till after Lebanon that the IDF decided there was a need to install things like this on the tanks. Before they were happy to buy a tank but not so happy about the idea of spending just a little extra to protect it which is probably the main reason its taken so long to get Trophy onto the market. Now they have seen that when a tank cost around $4 million its better to spend around $250,000 extra to fit it with a system to protect it from anti tank rockets. $4 million tank shot at and destroyed $4 250,000 tank shot at but survives and stays in the fight. Good value for money and saves lives of tank crews The US has disgustingly decided to leave their tank crew vunerable because they want to buy a domestic system which doesn't exist yet. Even if its not for every tank they should at least until their own system is ready put Trophy onto tanks being used on the front lines which are the ones being shot at the ones not in use abroad can wait until the US system is ready. They OWE it to their solders who are putting their lives on the line to enforce government policy.
6. #1, What is taking so long?
Noach ,   Reality   (08.07.09)
Just to put this into perspective, this is literally "rocket science." The system needs to be small enough to fit on a tank yet be able to counter high speed rocket fire in multiple conditions, including while moving. In addition, shoulder fire rockets are fired from a relatively short distance, which makes this even more difficult. Given the Jewish/Israeli high value of life, it needs to be able to do this consistently. This system is very impressive.

If Israel were ever to be destroyed, just keep in mind that you would be HISTORY..... pummeled into the ash heap of total anihilation... GET IT? You Arabs never seem to learn. You keep coming back for more and you keep losing.. you always will.
8. How about all tanks and armored vechilces by 2010?

illustrious military history, to see that you guys know what will be the next way wars will be fought! The fact is that while these tests are more for the newspapers, I have suspicion that the Trophy system was already tested in a much more realistic fashion... such as in Gaza in 2009. The fact was that Hamas had modeled much of it's defense after Hizb'allah. One thing that was very noticeable during that war was the lack of attacks on tanks or also lack of successful attacks on tanks. The confidence exuded over this system isn't from laboratory tests, but from actual in combat usage...

There is a smaller version of Trophy called Trophy Light currently in test stages as well which is designed for lightly armored vehicles which I believe the IDF is eventaually planning to adopt and install onto smaller wheeled vehicles. So it looks like at least most IDF combat vehicles will eventually have some form of protection. Its just a shame the Americans care more about profit than they do about their soldiers. Choosing to leave their tank crews with no defensive systems for at least another 2 years so they can justify the cost of developing their own system and knowing the way the US do things it will probably be 3 times the price of Trophy.

i wonder why you, that claims to love hizbullah and their supporters so much, would wish for another war to "show" the israelis that they are nothing. i wonder why you, who claims to love lebanese so much would wish another adventure of death and destruction brought on lebanon just like in 2006. why would you want hizbullah to be adventurous again? are you lusting for israeli blood, just to satisfy your hate and hateful vengeance against jews? you know full well that lebanon will suffer. the idf and iaf used only 5% of their firepower in lebanon in 2006 and hizbullah was spared total annihilation by the un which hizbullah and saniora screamed for and cried for at the un. if israel wanted total warfare, it would have been successful had the un not stopped it by issuing resolution 1701 and forcing israel into an early cease fire. the idf tropps were already on the litani river banks in south lebanon and advancing. hizbullah knew that this advance will commence the destruction of their infrastructure and armament and missile deposits which idf knew where they were. why do you wish lebanon be destroyed so that your blood lust for jewish lives in israel may materialize. i wonder what kind of human you are. SHAMEFUL! HAMEED ABOUGHAZE IRANIAN
