what exactly is the difference between stealing and taking something that is not yours? This family needs counselling... this is one the reason why there are increases at the supermarkets, hotels etc. because louts like this steal.... and the costs are passed on to the other customers.

I've heard this argument time and time again since I came to Israel - that if something is left outside - you are the fryer for leaving it. However, I've also left my wallet in a place where I thought I'd never get it back - and it was returned with the money in it! So, it's not everyone and it's not everywhere.

Taking the coffee & the soaps please they are put into the room to be used free of charge so whats wrong with taking them? As for the towls although they are not freebies like the coffee the hotels know that people taken them and its included into the bill but they don't go chasing up geusts telling them they want their towls back or accuse them of theft over it Although 60 towls and hundreds of coffee bags is a little over the top for your average geust to take in theory she is right that everybody takes the stuff anyway. I do hope though that this is not going to court better just either return the stuff and a fine or something because clogging up the court system over some hotel towls and toiletries will be a waste of time and money and its obvisous that the woman didn't think she was doing anything that anybody else who stays in the hotel doesn't do there was no criminal intent.

I do not agree with you at all.Although coffee bags are served by the hotel free of charge it does not mean the hotel guest should fill his pocket with such items offered as courtesy by the hotel.People should preserve their self respect and self esteem.Furthermore you are totally wrong by writing "everybody does it".Perhaps some people or many people do it but certainly not everybody ! Besides, although what she did was shameful and caused her much disgrace in front of everybody I believe she should not get away with it but rather the law should be applied to her in this case also. I would say she deserves to be categorized as " petty thief " and should be penalized for what she did in the forms of short jail term, a fine, and a temporary blacklist ! Law should serve as a deterrent ... !

The towels alone are expensive, For example when I went shopping for my mother and found some that were similiar to hotel ones that wer on sale. I could only afford a few. In this case it is probably at least $1500 to replace these things. Imagine, if she takes a lot of vacations, it could get very expensive.
