1. Walls
Susan ,   NY   (08.09.09)
Why don't they build large walls to enclose the Haredim neighbourhoods. That should stop the stonethrowers.
2. Such a peace loving bunch.
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (08.09.09)
3. rabbi trap
observer   (08.09.09)
a prominent rabbi invited him to talk.
4. scum
liz   (08.09.09)
what a pity his driver couldnt just drive through the mob....-- "oops, sorry did I run over someone?, didnt see him there in the dark...". And they wonder why we hate them
5. Just so I understand this
5th generation ,   Israel   (08.09.09)
Such ultra-Orthodox don't raise a finger toward the many, many, many goyim (paid to come here and live as Jews) steamrolling over the Jewish character of the state, but the parking lot is what gets them, and they will go after a fellow Jew. No wonder real Jews are turning away in droves.
6. This behavior is a Chilul Hashem
Ellen ,   Israel/USA   (08.09.09)
As an Orthodox Jew I continue to be embarrassed but what so called religious Jews are doing. However, when some of the talkbackers write--they are showing themselves to be at the same level. it doesn't matter whether you are secular or Charedi--trash talk and action is trash!
7. Give them jail time
Sidney ,   USA   (08.09.09)
8. When we were the recipients of missiles launched from
Robert Haymond ,   Ashdod, Israel   (08.09.09)
Gaza, the southern portion of the population became utterly fed up with the government of Olmert, Livni, Barak & Company. Eventually, that cowardly government succumbed and endorsed Operation Cast Lead. Although we stopped short of the mark, it has had the almost 100% effect of blocking any further missile launches and so, in that respect, was successful. I am now becoming aggravated with the constant (and illegal) protests of the Charedim (I know this is a cover term and is not meant to indite all of them). It appears that arresting a pocketful of protesters is not sufficient. We need sterner measures. Constant arrests of provocateurs, curfews and heavy fines for damage in the public domain including the confiscation of property if the fine is not immediately paid may force the Charedim to act responsibly. We should no more tiptoe around them anymore than we should have tiptoed around Hamas (although the comparison between the two parties is overly invidious).
9. Who are....
aline ,   israel   (08.10.09)
those hooligans? They can't really religious. We say: "Derekh eretz kadam la Torah"
10. Haredim have taken where Palestinian left...
(08.10.09)
Haredim seem to learn their tactics from Palestinians, stone throwing, burning tires, etc...we will see if we face harsher tactics.
11. Exile all violent protestors.
(08.10.09)
They live in the middle ages anyway, might as well feel what a real "galut" feels like. They have to choose what's more important: a Parking lot or living in their holy city.
12. Jerusalem, the rabbis, the haredim = a disaster.
Julie   (08.10.09)
Dismay, shocked, violence, not the way of the torah ? In Jerusalem it's the only way. The mayor should be replaced and join the cops in ballet dancing lessons. Tip toe is the way......!
13. Enough Already!
Bill Foonman ,   Jacksonville, USA   (08.10.09)
Sentence them to hard LABOUR. That will put the fear of G-d into them.
14. Amazing!
shmulke ,   w coast USA   (08.10.09)
that these morons think that they have G-d on their side.... FAIL
15. These haredim should go back to trafficking kidneys
dave ,   uk   (08.10.09)
16. You can kill someone with a stone, so charge them with...
Nick Sporek ,   Jerusalem Israel   (08.10.09)
attempted murder and lock them up for a long time and force them to study some Spinoza as part of their rehabilitation.
17. Sick of the haredim...
Yazi   (08.10.09)
They are making Jews and Israel look bad. Take a pill, chill out and relax. Have a damned sense of humor for once in your lives.
18. Declare Neturei Karta a terrorist organization
Yerach ,   Jerusalem,Israel   (08.10.09)
After all if Kach & Kahane Chai (both which love the land & people of Israel) are labeled as such & banned here in Israel why should Neturei Karta which meets with Ahmadninajad & Hamas not be decared as such & banned?
19. Attack on Mayor
Sam Hennok ,   Jerusalem   (08.10.09)
Not arresting those that attached the mayor may lead to temporary civil order. It does not lead to more permanent order and civic peace.
20. GO Haredim!
Ezra ,   SD   (08.10.09)
Israel has gone secular. Continue judging them and the separation will continue. You can't force someone to be religious. Make the secular leave town. Support whirled peas! Study Kabbalah, read the Zoar. The whole violence thing will never work. ...or will it?
21. Talkbackers
(08.10.09)
Perhaps it is how the article is written, perhaps it is simply that the Talkbackers are racist, but Barkat himself tells an entirely different story on the radio. All you people who hate and condemn Haredim, listen to Barkat and then crawl back into your racist caves.
22. #21 your right,it was planned very well, we're being
quel surprise not   (08.10.09)
programmed again probably, to lead up to something...ooh le'ts guess what...
23. 21 , Nir Barkat at Reshet Beth
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.10.09)
The story the mayor told was the same as written here . The difference was that he talked about a MINORITY of charidim . Don't forget that he has charidim in his coalition , that he is a politician who will not say everything he thinks . I think that the hats those attackers wear are typiccal to satmar adepts , anti Israelis . If they don't like Israel , Ben gurion airport is awaiting them , take a one way ticket , and bye bye .
