1. Dubious reporting
Aaron ,   Baltimore, USA   (08.10.09)
Neturei Karta doesn't dabble in domestic issues. They are a "one issue" political party concerned with promoting a peaceful (albeit unacceptable to zionists) solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict. Perhaps your reporter is sufficiently alien to the Hareidi world that someone pulled the wool over his eyes?????????
2. We fled Egypt with machizahs? Simply not supported by Torah.
Josh   (08.10.09)
Devarim 4 - NO ADDING TO TORAH. Streets should be free for all Am Yisrael and people need to recognize the strength unquestionable cult leaders get when they control women distribution for marriage. All things are given by the cult leader including sex and marriage. So be a good boy kiss up and maybe just maybe you will get a wife of quality. We know that the best yeshiva students get the best girls. If I were a cult leader I couldn't have written it any better. Wake up. Who sees this besides me? Corruption and brainwashing. Open your eyes to the real Torah and protect it.
3. Does this mean...?
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (08.10.09)
Does this mean that until now men and women have been allowed to walk on the same sidewalk? What are Haredim coming too? Next thing you know Haredi women will stop wearing their burkhas!
4. Israel is a modern western democracy
David israel ,   NY, USA   (08.10.09)
The members of Naturei Karta would feel more comfortable to go and live in Iran or Taleban controlled Afghanistan. Israel is not the place for them.
5. Are they completely crazy ?!?
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (08.10.09)
6. Neturei Karta don't recognize Israel
Z   (08.10.09)
Hamas, PLO, Holocaust-denying loving lunatics have no right to be in Jerusalem
7. 40 years in the dessert without a bush to hide behind
Josh   (08.10.09)
Maybe the non-prophet Rabbis forgot to explain to G-d it was a sin. Separation laws are a sin by frauds. You know the ones who claim today they stood on Har Sinai or Mt Moriah too. By the way, where is it and where were you stand in relation to me, because I never saw you there. I wasn't born yet. If you say it was the Temple Mount explain why the people at the foot of it didn't see Moses for 40 days and nights and thought he was dead? Must have been taller then? Uhhmmm, I see. False additions, just like the prophets said. Corruption is what the prophets talk about. Stop hurting our people with brute force riots. Think.
8. Law about not letting women dress like harlots...
Josh   (08.10.09)
...proves, men and women could see one another in Moses' day. The only specification is they don't dress that way not that they be shuffled around in separate quarters. That is more Muslim than Torah. Go figure.
9. 1: Wrong, NK trying to build rep
Yosef ,   NY   (08.10.09)
The violently pro-Hamas NK, sworn to Israel's destruction is trying to build up a credible reputation on the Haredi street by showing themselves as more frum than the real religious authorities. That is exactly how Hamas and the Taliban gain power. I hope the haredi don't fall for this cheap trick because If the NK dream came true I seriously doubt a victorious Hamas would subsidize talmud study while slaughtering secular Jews, religious and NK
10. Separate sidewalks for Neturei Karta...in Ramallah?
JPS ,   Efrat   (08.10.09)
Well, wouldn't it make sense to move the Neturei Karta to the Palestinian Authority where they can live in peace? The electricity and water supply will be run by goyim - so no Shabbat desecration problems there. They can easily run for office and be elected. And the Pals can let them live in peace, unlike us Zionists.
11. They would not allow the Matriarchs to walk
Bentzy ,   Jerusalem   (08.10.09)
in their neighborhood, nor would they allow Yitzchak Avinu in their cheder because his father and mother were converts, nor would they allow him to marry their daughters. They would not trust the Kashrus of the Matriarchs because they did not wear 90 denier stockings or shave their heads, They would not allow their children to marry the sons of Yaakov because he did not register with teh Eidah Hachareidis when he got married and he had 4 wives who were sisters, nor the sons of Moshe Rabbeinu because his father in law was Yisro. No the Partiarchs did not wear Shtreimels white knitted kipot or striped kaftans as they like to depict in their coloring books.
12. Why do you publicize these Netra Kartos?
earwigo again   (08.10.09)
Their threats and their chumras are meant for their own people who live among them. Why on earth does ynet care about these strange bitter people so much? WE DON'T. Get over yourselves Ynet. Do us all a favour.
13. ultra-Orthodox opposite sides of the road during the weekend
observer   (08.10.09)
during the weekend there is no traffic, so actually there is no center of the street! I love those NK; they are not center to anything, why bother forming a Jewish state, only to segregate on its streets?
14. Send them to Iran, let them set up shop there
John S ,   NYC USA   (08.10.09)
they don't recognize the state anyway and seem to get along better with Ahamdinejad than other Jews
15. Out..
Karta basher   (08.10.09)
Deport the kartas wher etheyy belong to.. Iran or Gaza..
16. It's evident that the Edah Haredit
Robert Haymond ,   Ashdod, Israel   (08.10.09)
must be forefully stopped as Israel, a democratic state, cannot be kept as the preserve of one Chassidic faction alone. More and more, this faction appears to act as if it's in sole ownership of the city of Jerusalem. It's especially galling as this is the same faction which calls for the dismantling of the state of Israel and even sends emassaries to Amadjinehad and Hamas in Gaza. I am also concerned that the rest of the Orthodox establishment in Jerusalem does not speak out against them nor does it try to prevent them from hurling stones and burning waste disposal units. As a result, they become implicated as well.
17. No. 12
NYC Girl   (08.10.09)
While I understand your frustration, the problem is that, unfortunately, the Naturei Karta have made it a point to go public with their asinine ravings. However, when people who aren't familiar with their religious fanaticism see them demonstrating arm-in-arm with militant Palestinians on the streets of New York, for example, they assume that Israel must be everything the Palestinians accuse it of being, if those religious Jews are agreeing with them. Believe me, when it comes to propaganda, the Palestinians and their sympathizers have become very adept at making use of Israel's enemies, regardless of whether they're Arabs or Jews. And that's the reason why it's important to expose them.
18. separation
Lisa   (08.10.09)
separation laws: separate schools, separate buses, separate sidewalks, separate 'ghetto' solution: separate- country- ?
19. #17
RW ,   nj   (08.10.09)
agreed 100%...i've never felt more embarrassed than when i was with non jewish friends at israel rallies during the gaza war and they had to see the NK...they were filled with shock and confusion to see so called religious jews going against other jews
20. Sounds like some forgot to take their "crazy" pills today
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (08.10.09)
These nut-jobs are a disgrace to other practicing Jews, as the rest are tarred with their lunacy. I'm not usually one for violence, but if these creeps choose to harass a woman on the "wrong side" of the street, I hope someone gives them a good beat-down.
21. to bentzy #11
yonatan ,   manchester uk   (08.10.09)
1.)I have lived all my life in haredi communities and never heard of any haredi cheder that doesnt accept children of Orthodox converts who are a fuylly integrated part of their community (although admittedly because of all their stringencies and idiosyncracies this would be harder to achieve in the more extreme communities) . 2.) The matriarchs probably wore clothing to the floor and thus didnt need any stockings. 3.) The matriarchs probably wore complete headcarves and thus didn't need to shave (incidentally the wives of many yerushalmi Neturei Kartas dont shave either this is only toldot aharon). 4.) The 2 sisters wives of Yaakov was a special heter for him and was also before matan Torah and today would be forbidden d'oraisa according to even the most modern Orthodox Rabbi. 5.) The shtreimel part I admit, although most Haredi books do actually draw the patriarchs etc wearing turbans just like they probably did. 6.) The striped caftan is actually a middle eastern thing worn only in Israel made of material they used to buy from Arabs and as such is probably nearer to what the patriarchs wore then whatever most mizrachi or secular Israelis wear is.
22. Chumra
Lewis ,   Jerusalem   (08.10.09)
Chumra, chumra, chumra, chumra, chumra. This Rabbi says this, that Rabbi says that, this Rabbi says this, that Rabbi says that. What does God say - that's irrelevant!
23. #4 David G-d Forbid!
Ephraim ,   Kfar Tapuach   (08.10.09)
There are hundreds of modern western democracies. We don't need one. We need a Jewish, Torah, state.
24. #17 Expose them? Outlaw them more like it.
noch amol earwigo   (08.10.09)
I agree with you but we who live here just don't want to hear about them. For you there it's different. This is our home and they are traitors. Nothing they mumble surprises any of us. Ugly bunch of people with a few measly followers probably in NY, London (stamford hill probably, like someone else...) Manchester, Vienna maybe, etc but there are very very few of them, who should not get all this publicity. These evil people live for this publicity. It makes them even worse.
25. Why are the Edah Haredit protesting:
Robert Haymond ,   Ashdod, Israel   (08.10.09)
The parking lot is at a distance from Mea Shearim and really isn't in the residential vicinity so why do the Edah Haredit protest? And it appears that every week a new issue arises, now the sidewalks, before it was child abuse, lately it's been throwing stones at the mayor and previously burning trash in the public domain and causing property damage all of which is accompanied by videos. Given that the charitable funds which has allowed the Edah Haredit to live in Israel without working has been drying up, isn't this just a cynical method of appealing to their wealthier cousins in New York (Brooklyn) and elsewhere in North America to send more money as they (in Israel) continue to represent "Orthodox purity" while having become victims of the secular state (of Israel). A pretty good ploy on their part, I'd say. Nonetheless, the Edah Haredit must be stopped and forcefully so if necessary as their constant disruptions effect all of Jerusalem and cost us a good deal of money besides.
26. I have a better suggestion on how to split the sidewalks
Jacob Blues ,   New York City, USA   (08.10.09)
Let the women walk on the top-side of the sidewalk, and let the men walk underneath. The men who are advocating this segregation have way too much time on their hands.
27. The sidewalks are built and maintained by the STATE...
VZ ,   Jerusalem   (08.11.09)
They can have nothing to say about it. They should not even be allowed in this country if they don't believe in it.
28. No. 24
NYC Girl   (08.11.09)
I understand the point you're making and I agree wholeheartedly that they're traitors. In fact, if they pulled the kind of crap they do in Israel, in their beloved Iran, they would all be lined up and shot. However, because they're traitors, perhaps your argument should be with your government which, for some unfathomable reason, hasn't seen fit to round up and deport the whole damned bunch of them.
29. live in a seperate state awell
Avi ,   Israel   (08.11.09)
Now that would be the best solution!
30. #28 Halvay! They rejoiced with hamas
#24   (08.11.09)
when our children and families were blown up in buses and restaurants, and should be declared a terrorist organization. Their evil looking smirking and smiles 'decorate' all the terrorist conventions and gatherings that they attend with such glee. I wonder what they actually 'do' . They're certainly not talmidei chachomim, they're actions are far too evil for that, and certainy don't learn all day, (evil can't learn all day) They do no chesed. Just smile with glee at jewish/israeli suffering. I guess THAT'S what they do. Geh aveck already.
