Actually, there are atheists in foxholes...my grandfather was one of them in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II. But, be that as it may, there have actually been some studies in hospitals of very ill patients who had other people praying for them, although the patients weren't necessarily aware of it. Somewhat unexpectedly, the researchers found there were actually cases of patients making a better than expected recovery that couldn't be explained by any medical intervention. So, while I may not be a believer myself, I'm not so sure I'm going to argue with the rabbis. I missed this story when it came out. The behavior and beliefs of the rabbis is sad and ignorant of science. Centuries ago they helped teach hygiene and healthy eating. Now they seem woefully out of touch and uninformed.
