But why do the rest of us have to read about it?

SIMPLE EQUATION : Tzipi Livni = good reason for Israelis to be desperate enough to leave the country.
34. Well Said Livni
Jonathan Cohen ,   Raanana Israel   (08.13.09)
Livni as usual has her finger on the pulse of what most Israelis are thinking, but this should not come as too much of a surprise as she did win the largest amount of votes in the recent election and leads the largest party in the Knesset. Moreover, most people of good will I know are thoroughly embarrassed to be represented by an openly racist foreign minister . The demonizing of Tzipi Livni by elements of the far right is reminiscent of their darkest period which culminated in the Rabin assassination. Have we not learned anything?
35. Self -fulfilling prophecy
ben ,   jeusalem   (08.13.09)
This just shows how unsophisticated Livni is. Every reporter is rewarded by coming up with a headline scoop, not necessarily reflecting the essence of the speech. Rav Ovadia probably does this deliberately every Sat. nite. Is this really what Livni wanted to appear as a headline in all the papers, or did she blow it. Has she checked her own party members and their children? Or just non-Kadima families would ever think of getting an alternative passport?
36. Livni could also leave
Rosie   (08.13.09)
Livni is a heartless selfish MK. She only see her own interests and is not concerned about Israel and the future of the Jewish people. She could leave and join anti-Israeli groups such as Jstreet - The enemy of our people.
37. #22 Doron- wishful thinking?
Lisa   (08.13.09)
I am happy you think Israel has all the answers- leave Europe out of it, please- terrorism started here at the about what Europe can handle- you think you can read it all in Ynet, day bu day- not!. Your scenario about Eurabia is highly exaggerated- you read nothing else in the your papers- . And IF your scenario becomes true- you will be no safer in Israel than in Europe- by that time your big brother America will also be overrun by Islam- we all sink together- remember this if it happens in our lifetime. You are a dreamer!
38. the hundreds of thousands who can afford to do so are
JO   (08.13.09)
the elite. Can the average Israeli afford to buy an apartment overseas, or educate their children there. I doubt it. Let alone get a foreign passport. Livni is talking about those who are the elite of Israel. Not the ordinary man professional or otherwise.
39. don't agree w/her politics but she's on point here...
(08.13.09)
there has been a recent study which indicates that the number of Israelis attempting to obtain foreign passports via "grandfather clauses" of various Eastern European Countries is on the rise. These are children and grandchildren of people who survived the holocaust and are now busy with assisting their children in obtaining foreign particularly European Union country passports. Additionally the study showed that groups of FSU immigrants are also attempting to reclaim their FSU country's citizenship Additionally the study showed that immigrants from the United States are turning to lawyers in the States in order to obtain citizenship for grandchildren who are technically ineligible for American citizenship to use the loop holes in the American system to obtain American citizenship. Further the reason the Americans are doing this is to receive the annual USA $1000 tax return benefit. So basically disagree with her politics but at least I have the courage to agree that she's got her p's and q's lined up correctly on this issue!
40. #37 - You're out of touch like Livni and full of assumptions
Doron ,   Israel   (08.13.09)
When did I say Israel has all the answers? And how do you know what I read and study? That makes you sound rather self-righteous and ignorant. You claim that my scenario is highly exaggerated, but did not give one argument why. Learn at least a little bit of history. Much of Southern Europe has already before been conquered once by Islam, during the Khilafah and the Ottoman rule. Europe has already suffered extreme horror and losses under Nazism and Communism. Europe has always been authoritarian and consciously or not seek authoritarian leadership. America and Israel is not like that. America has a 2nd amendment in her constitution that gives her citizens the right to keep and bear arms. Even if her army was to be defeated, which is impossible, you have a country full of armed and crazy rednecks who are just itching to blow the head off a Jihadist. You are the dreamer. Snap out of it and don't believe everything you hear by politically correct media and politcians. Try to think with your own mind!

Dave   (08.13.09)
Europe seeks authoritarian leadership? That's funny, given the fact that the countries ranking best in human development, political freedom and civil rights are mostly European. Not the mention that non-authoritarian ideas like modern human rights laws originated in Europe. And don't make it look like the US has some kind of gun-ownership monopoly. Most of the countries with high numbers of guns per residents are European (France, Serbia, Switzerland, Finland, Germany, Sweden, Austria....).
42. #41 - Very funny
Doron ,   Israel   (08.13.09)
There was a democratic country once in Europe that was highly developed, culturally and technologically advanced and all those things that you just described. Later, after a democratic election, it turned into a dictatorship and invaded her neighbors and created the bloodiest war in history. That country is called Germany. Next argument to defeat is gun laws in Europe, which is close to laughable. First off, United States has a 90% gun ownership. Secondly, there is no constitutional rights in Europe to own arms and may be revoked by politcians at any time. Thrirdly, the limitations of what you can own, arms and clip size, registration policies and policies of when and how you're legally allowed to use your gun in self-defense is the difference of day and night between Europe and the U.S.
43. #41 - One more thing
Doron ,   Israel   (08.13.09)
The gun ownership in Sweden is not what you think. Yes, if you go to the country side, you'll find that many people own a double barreled shotgun. But in the cities, hardly anyone owns a gun. South of Sweden (Rosengard) has now a Muslim majority and even the Swedish cops are afraid to patrol these neighborhoods. Because they through rocks and molotov cocktails at the Police, they must always travel in two cars, one Police car watching the other.
44. I Love Livni

What a gal!
45. 4 quiet months
Yonason Herschlag   (08.13.09)
We didn't have such quiet when Olmert or Livni were ruling. Back then we had the excitement of rockets and bombs.
46. #42, you forgot the "inventor of modern human rights"
