1. You buried this report pretty well
Chanalau, Tova ,   London, UK   (08.13.09)
If one Israeli has a stone thrown at him there are banner headlines. At YNET murder is only murder if the victim is Jewish.
2. If HRW Can....
Jacob Erickson ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (08.13.09)
If they can say the IDF failed to take "feasible precautions" to distinguish between civilians and armed fighters prior to attacking. Can they also say that Hamas failed to take steps to distinguish their fighters from civilians? Or tell them that all of their soldiers have to be above 18 years old? Or have them all wear uniforms?
3. human rughts reports
a.d/r ,   herzlia   (08.13.09)
leave israel alone solve your county problem first in a few years time you will be defending yourselves and not the palastinians i assure you
4. HRW
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (08.13.09)
HRW has admitted to be a Saudi-funded organization. Why does anyone care what HRW says? Saudi Arabia is in a state of war with Israel and its declared policy is the elimination of any Jewish sovereignty in the Middle East. Saudi Arabia is a racist apartheid state. At least 50% of its population are slaves. Brown people from the East have no rights.

It looks like British public has their brains completely washed out by their anti-Israeli media.
6. human right report
shul ,   UK   (08.13.09)
unbeliveble, you have hamas terror army shooting and lunching misslie to israel, aiming at anything, children school ,at people sheep dogs, anything, just for the sake of killing inside israel, and do we hear anything about that? how can this be? how? dont call ur self human right. its arab right only.shame on u.
7. TBs-
Lisa   (08.13.09)
reading the TBs it looks like all have their mind made up: HRW is wrong- Israel is always right, right? Has it occurred to you armchair diplomats and other specialists, that maybe, just maybe there is some truth to the allegations? The IDF is not saying much, the soldiers are told to zip their lips... Israelis of course are very patriotic- but you really believe your soldiers can do no wrong under stress? They are no worse- and most likely not much better than other soldiers in the field-. You say Hamas did not take precautions either-- are you stooping to their level? Two wrongs make one right? #3-4-5..... leave Israel alone? I thought you complained last week that you WERE alone? Nobody was on your side? LOL
8. Blei giesen
chrsbrown ,   Hamburg   (08.13.09)
A two-year old shot dead in Israeli controlled territory. This is not a matter of discussion but an open and shut case. The whole operation was a continuation of the Israeli "Defence" Force attack on the civilian population of Gaza. The Hamas are secondary. CB in Hamburg

geveret, In israel is is quite hard not to not be related to one soldier or more. My three roommates fought in the war. never have they hinted or mentioned any immoral behavior that extended to cold blooded murder. One roommate was forced to shoot towards a child that was being used as a human shield. he has nightmares about it. If a soldier or two went nuts or is a psychopath then it cant be helped. they are weeded out to the best of the army capabilities. I just want to leave you with this thought: israel critics repeat the claim that we have the strongest army in the region. Israel could have wiped the floor with gaza, and that they restrained themselves to the degree that they are being accused of... I lived through the intifada. I was shot at and saw two suicide attacks, i SAW them happen. the Arabs present impossible demands for peace, never compromising or making any effort to show they are serious , israel evacuated 18 thousand people of gush katif and got missiles in return. Dont DARE call me an armchair diplomat, because in israel the missiles can hit your HOUSE. does anyone doubt that if israel was certain that the arabs have given up terror the situation would change? If the arabs can resort to violence because they're demands cannot be met, then why cant israel resort to violence when their demands can be met and and yet....missiles on sderot for 8 years. "oh, they're crap missiles'" when someone tells me that i laugh and walk away because if you can think that your head is full of holes. /rant

Armchair diplomats and other specialists ? Unlike #1, #8 and you, 2, 3, 4, 5 and myself don' live in the luxury of Britain, Germany or the U.S. We live in Israel, and as such have served in the IDF, and probably have seen, not through the whitewashed lenses of CNN and the BBC, but with our own eyes the results of car, bus, restaurant, disco bombings by suicide murders. And we live with the aftermaths of these attacks, unlike you who turn your tvs off and go about your daily routine not having to worry about where the next bomb or rocket will come from. Add to this the continuous firing of rockets since 2001 from Gaza into the Negev. I wonder how you would react to this type of living. Does this justify any violations of individual rights ? No. But your assumption is that Israel is trying to cover up things. Then explain to us the statements of Richard Kemp, the investigations by the IDF of complaints - one soldier was just sent to prison for stealing a Palestinian's credit card - and the ongoing investigations. What other army in the world does this ? What you do not understand or refuse to understand is that this is a war - it has been going on for over 60 years and in war people get killed - soldiers and civilians. And in war, especially in the heat of battle, things happen, some not so nice. But to condemn an entire country or an entire army for what may or may not be legitimate criticism is immoral, especially when that country has been under attack continuously for well over 60 years. As was pointed out by another talkbacker - HRW is soliciting funding from Saudis and the Saudis are still in a state of war with Israel, as is Syria, Lebanon and Iraq. What would you expect from HRW ? I would expect nothing near the truth or reality.
11. yes maalum it is true
rashid ,   palistinian   (08.13.09)
i myself give evidence to hrw telling them that i was holding a white flag believe me and they shoot at me and i was wearigh jeans at the time so i was a civilian the soldier what was shooting at me was wearing a kippale and was reading maariv and was listening to resheb bet at the time so i know him was israil soldier believe me and when i was giving this evidend hamas man did not stand next to me with a gun believe me i will not lie to you i also would like to say the hanalau is not my wife these are just dirty rumours
12. Human shield usage proven profitable again and again
(08.13.09)
Why can Hamas buy so many human shields and we can't buy any? We're richer! Let's buy Muslim kids, they are very cheap in Gaza. Their parents get a couple thousand dollars from Hamas when they get shot. We can pay ten times more. Then we'll send them to throw stones at Hamas militiamen, while taping the whole show on TV
13. Ynet you are sick
peter ,   Neauouere   (08.13.09)
why do you give "a priori" credibility to that report i.o. inquiring about that NGO and its leaders it's all biaised it's a new AlDura affair IDF and the government has said much more in response that waht you said pity you are firing us and yourself in our knees http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1249418596650&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull
14. White flag "shields
DT ,   TA ISRAEL   (08.13.09)
Very questionable and it was likely the IDF were being shot at from behind people who were waving white flags and being "shielded" by the flags while Hamas shot. Its' nothing new by "Civilians" in Gaza
15. Human Rights Watch
Sarah B ,   New York City, USA   (08.13.09)
is a lackey of any number of Palestinian organizations, so the report comes as no surprise. That said, I am still waiting for them to issue a report on human rights violations in the Congo, in Dharfur, in Somalia, in the Ivory Coast, in Turkey, in Indonesia, in China, in Afghanistan, in Pakistan, in the Philippines, in Iraq and in Iran. To name but a few. In each of the above-cited countries, the death toll from human rights violations is at a minimum in the tens of thousands; some rising into the hundreds of thousands and in the Congo -- five million. Yet the Human Rights Watch is fussing over Operation Cast Lead. Doesn't that say far more about the Human Rights Watch than it does Israel? I think so.
16. #5 Add me to the list of Brainwashed
Chocko ,   NY, USA   (08.13.09)
To be honest there is very little news in the 'free west', unless it has been sanctioned by AIPAC, so I get most of my ME news from sites like Y-NET. After observing the situation, based almost entirely on what the Israeli media are saying, I can see that Israel is an Apartheid state that is Strangling any attempt at peace in the area. You dont want peace, you want a constant state of almost war, where you can weep while pulling your trigger claiming its the palestinians that are causing you to fire Phosphorous bombs into civilian areas, (But only to light up the area) You use spent uranium munitions to poison large tracts of land, (but only in case Hamas uses heavy armour) You destroy any infrastructure and active business that may be operating, (but only to ensure there is no hiding place for quassam launchers) and then you blame the palestinians for all the slaughter because they must have turned left instead of right when they were told to move by an IDF soldier Gaza doesnt have a hope, because you want it that way. You stop and destroy any meaningful dialogue and hide it by saying we will discuss anything at anytime as long as it doesnt include the illegal settlements. ( But of course, God gave you planning permission approx 3.5 thousand years ago.) You prevent them from having any form of society where they can govern themselves. You destroy any sort of infrastructure and blame them for living in the middle ages. You close them off at all entrance points and treat them like prisoners. You use America to threaten Egypt if they allow even small amounts of aid to filter through, And when they fight back, you claim you are the victim. That you are the ones being attacked. You tell them they have to be democratic and punish them when they vote..... Your religious crazies resemble the Taliban more and more and you try to hide them behind the door as if they are an exception. Israel is an apartheid state. It makes South Africa look like a holiday camp, even in its darkest days. And thankfully more and more. Americans are beginning to see this fact
17. #14.... You are Nuts!!!
Chocko ,   NY, USA   (08.13.09)
But I bet your happy in that wonderful crazy colourful world you have invented for yourself.
18. Maybe Israel is wrong but can Israel ever be right?
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (08.13.09)
Israel bashing in the news media is the most popular show on Earth. Peter Dobbe of the BBC shouted down Israel Government spokesperson, Mark Regev, when he, Regev, had the gall to mention that HRW is funded by Saudi Arabia and other Arab groups. HRW has admitted this and their report has also been torn apart by Jane’s, the renowned British Military resource. The fact is that in any war people get killed but it is only Israel who gets blamed over and over. The British and the Americans have killed or caused ht deaths of 100,000 civilians in Iraq and civilians have been bombed by NATO forces in Afghanistan. Sri Lanka admits that 70,000 civilians were killed in its war with the Tamil Tigers, 20,000 own who died in the last week of the war. We do not know how many civilians were killed by the Russians in Chechnya and how many Uighers have "disappeared" because they dared to rise against the Chinese regime. The list of Human Rights violations is long and continues every day but it is Israel that gets singled out each time. The reason is Arab control of the various news organizations and their advertising on SkyNews, the BBC, CNN and so on. They also have huge shareholdings in companies like NewsCorp (FOXNews and SkyNews) and in Time Warner, the parent company of CNN. With these financial forces against us how can Israel get a far hearing in the court of public opinion? Many of the talkbacks, like those of Chanalau, Tova, London UK, are always very anti-Israel but, Chanalau, Tova, clean up your own house before you clean mine! Just look at the disgraceful behavior of some of your British soldiers in the war in Iraq and Afghanistan where neither you nor the Americans are fighting for your survival as we have been doing to 61 years and longer!

Thanks for writing that down. I agree that most non-Israelis (especially Europeans and Americans) cannot really relate to what it's like to live under constant attacks. But sadly, CNN and BBC seem to be relatively neutral compared to local newspapers or TV stations in Europe. When I was a high school student, a politician came to my school to tell us why there was no need to critizise Iran when in fact Israel was the real terrorist. Luckily, the average student is way too lazy to pay attention and not that easy to influence, but it still scared me.

The South African Interior Minister denies the apartheid analogy and tells us that Israel is by no means an apartheid state.
21. "Human Rights" Watch
NYC Girl   (08.13.09)
Perhaps they ought to go back and study what happened during the so-called Jenin massacre. Because if the IDF were really hellbent on killing civilians waving white flags, why were soldiers fighting door-to-door putting their lives in peril (and indeed suffering very high casualties) when they could have just as easily dropped something on them and wiped out the whole camp in one fell swoop? Does HRW believe for an instant that Hamas or Hezbollah would have hesitated to do something like that if the situation were reversed?
22. #17
Df ,   Beer Sheva, Israel   (08.13.09)
just read the report of HRW that came out previous to this on - on Hamas violations of human rights. It reported that the Hamas did use civilians as human shields. Something that we have known for a long time without having to have HRW say so.
23. HRW outright lies in their report
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (08.13.09)
"Civilians lose their protection from attack only during the time they directly participate in hostilities," said HRW. - Bullshit. Once a combatant you lose their civilian status forever. HRW accuses the IDF in each case of failing to take "feasible precautions" to distinguish between civilians and armed fighters prior to attacking. In worse allegations, the rights group claims that in some of the cases fire was opened on civilians with premeditated intent. - Funny the Geneva Convention says exactly the opposite it is up to the civilians to take those precautions, not the military. Since their report is based upon lies, more lies prove nothing.

hsg   (08.13.09)
wait, so when HRW writes that hamas used human shields you believe it, but when they say that the IDF fired on unarmed civilians with white flags you dont? double standard much?
25. #24 double standard much?
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (08.13.09)
When HRW grudgingly acknowledged well-documented FACTS that were well known by everyone else for months, and which they admitted to only after they were outed begging from the Saudis to carry on their anti-Israel campaign, it was only to cover their own bare arses and had nothing whatever to do with "fairness."
26. Talkback Experts
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (08.13.09)
It boggles the mind that all the talkback experts who think they know the "truth" about Gaza, all live in Europe or Australia where they are exposed constantly to the manipulations of the anti-Israel media, while those who actually live in Israel and participated in Cast Lead "don't know what they are talking about"
27. AND THE IDF DELIBERATELY SHOT DOWN SANTA AND HIS REINDEER
stude ham   (08.13.09)
while overflying the gaza wastes. note how setiously every lie coming out of the terrorist hamas is treated so seriously by the goyim. wait for it... the IDF ground the bones of little hamas children for their passover matzot... etc...
28. accepted arab lies and distortion
martin ,   stevenage - uk   (08.13.09)
the arabs continually accuse and all too readily, the world accepts without question the accuracy. remember the man sheltering the young boy, horror of horrors, the israelis were innocent after all. one thing is -any accusation means they either do it thermselves, plan to do it, or want to do it. syria, tortured and massacred israeli prisoners of was during the 1973 yom kippur. israel, out of understanding towards the families did not make a huge international issue of it. in any case, the world would not have been interested. i notice too that reuters, too, have contributed towards this report. well well well. this is the same reuters who acknowledged they have to doctor the truth and not report negatively about the arabs due to the fear of their reporters being murdered, tortured etc. good on you israel, show plenty of khazak and ametz
29. Today it's 11
Arie ,   BaGolan   (08.13.09)
Last week it was a thousand. Bottom line, even HRW and AI had to admit that hamass used civilians as shields to allow their terrorists to attack. To have worked under those conditions, leaving MAYBE 11 innocent civilians dead, is testimony to the professionalism of Tzahal, and the willingness of our soldiers to put their own lives at risk to protect the innocent!
30. #15 check Amnesty
Lisa   (08.13.09)
check out the Amnesty site: there are umpteen reports- on ALL of the above and some you haven't even dreamed of- Ynet publishes only reports relating to Israel, LOL
