1. The key point in all this article, in the first paragraph
The Dude   (08.14.09)
"may be willing to renew relations " So basically, if Israel does this, then Qatar and Oman might grace us with some table scraps. It's time for Israel to act with self-respect. For 60 years we did more than fine without them. We don't need them now. Especially considering that while the process is not fast enough, this oiloholic economy is beginning to shift away and so does it away from the gulf. The fact is that neither of these countries have invested in women, education, or anything outside of what petro-money buys. It's time we go into the future without them.
2. Oman and Co.
DT ,   TA Israel   (08.14.09)
I'd rather be without them !
3. Who needs them?
Malone ,   Hfx   (08.14.09)
They can't be believed anyway,no matter what they say..
4. The Arab states have no intention, ever, to recognize
Amihai   (08.14.09)
Israel's right to be, to exist as the nation-state of the Jewish people. And since they have refused to do so, continue to refuse and will not do so even if Israel withdraw from every single centimeter of land captured in 1967 - they would only recognize Israel's existence but not its right to do so - there is not and never will be a guarantee that upon the appearance of the first opportunity the Arab world will once again attempt to wipe Israel, a UN member state, off the face of earth. This is the reality with which Israel must deal and this is the reality that reasonable people abroad must recognize and learn to manage to live with.
5. We don't need relations with Qatar or Oman
Steve   (08.14.09)
Sure, Qatar and Oman may be willing to normalize relations, but only if Israel compromises its national security. If Qatari and Omani leaders honestly want to normalize relations, all they can do it whenever they like. Starting with recognizing Israel's right to exist. We've been fine without diplomatic relations with these two countries in the past. I'm sure that Israel can cope without them in the future.
6. Obey: Hussein? Lord?
Siul ,   Madrid Spain   (08.14.09)
Islam is in war with Israel. Alah versus the Lord. The war is deceivment. Best to obey at Allmighty that HUSSEIN Obama. Up the Holy Nation¡¡
7. #1 The Dude, you're wrong
Said ,   London, UK   (08.14.09)
Look up something called the Qatar Foundation and you'll see that they are investing in women, education, science and a shift from a petrodollar economy to a knowledge based one. It will take time, but the funding is serious.
8. Hard concessions for a faraway "maybe"? Just say no.
rnathans00 ,   Washington, USA   (08.14.09)
Could the "regional peace" fantasy be made more ludicrous? Of what value are Oman and Qatar's offer of a "maybe" over an issue that is none of their business? And for so worthless a suggestion Israel is to make a real concession, contrary to its legal and historic rights? I once helped teach a university course on the Arab-Israeli conflict. (Yes, that's what we called it back then.) If it's the Arab world that remains a party to the conflict - even those without a direct stake in the matter - it's the Arab world that must make those gestures if they expect any concessions.
9. #7 SA'EED, YOU HAVE 4000 MORE YRS TO CATCH UP WITH MORALITY.
....DACON9   (08.14.09)
10. US relays message qatar wants peace with Israel - LOL
marlene ,   Philadelphia, USA   (08.14.09)
This time, we SHOULD shoot the messenger. LOL!
11. these two 'countries' offer nothing to Israel.
David ,   Hartford USA   (08.14.09)
They don't sit on a border, they don't any commerce between them, they are non-players in this drama. Israel would be better off to decline the offer. HOWEVER, if they decided to have full-blown diplomatic relations, unrestricted commerce, and open travel between them with no pre-conditions, THEN that would be an important statement. But it won't happen. All the Arab states are playing the same game. The kings of these two countries don't have the balls to do anything of substance on their own. Next gestures?
12. Oman, Qatar also need to freeze construction in settlements
Genuine Tosefta ,   Tveria   (08.14.09)
in exchange for Israel renewing certain relations with them the settlers from Mecca must freeze all new construction in the occupied native Persian territories of Amen and Gutter
13. Absurd
(08.14.09)
Nothing will stop Israel from building settlements. That's why a nuclear confrontation is inevitable.
14. As an Arab, this is how Israelis should respond
M. Hussein ,   France   (08.14.09)
If you really care about peace with Israel, why don't you first start making peace with your own people by implementing free elections? And Qatar, how about selling Israel 51% of al-Jazeera so that we can influence the others positively the way you influenced ALL of the Arabs negatively against Israel.
15. Anti Israeli press bias
Manuel ,   Buenos Aires, Arg   (08.15.09)
Israel should ask Qatar as a first farewell step to review anti israeli press bias implemented by the Cable News Network Al Jazeera which is based in its vapital Doha. During the last conflict in Gaza, Al Jazeera did a lot to harm Israel image in front of international TV viewers, it also often makes reports focused on what bad can be found around Israel to be beamed around the world
