1. Urban Police
Davidoff ,   Santa Fe, USA   (08.17.09)
The police in Israel are nowhere to be found. I visit Israel once or twice a year and rarelyn see police presence on the streets, the beaches, the parks. I know they will say they are busy catching terrorists, nevertheless who will take care of the average Moe?
2. The Government needs to really think about this
Steve   (08.17.09)
The idea of municipal police departments can be workable. In the US, cities have the own police departments, and counties often have their own police (sometimes called Sheriff's Dept). This is in addition to state police forces, and the federal agencies. However, Israel is a much smaller country, so one has to ask whether it is a good idea to have each municipality control policing in its area. Israeli police officers deal with terrorism on an almost daily basis - something which their US counterparts have not experienced. I think that given the terror threat, it is more practical to have a centralized, national police force. Israel is such a small country that it really doesn't make sense to have several departments. Due to the terror threat, it is necessary for the police to have tactical response teams ready to go, but this costs a lot of money. It would be a poor use of resources to have a Tel-Aviv YAMAM, a Jerusalem YAMAM, a Haifa YAMAM and so on. Having one, national tactical team is the way to go. If we want to really improve the situation, then its time to hire more officers and put more police on the streets.
3. control

Internal security wants control of urban police thereby limiting its scope and taking positive steps not to allow better salaries.Municipalities would pay better and get the more dedicated policeman .Let the people suffer as long as his seat in the knesset with all the perks stay.SO WHAT IF THE COUNTRY HAS NO INTERNAL SECURITY.
4. No money for extra police or urban police but ok for Haredim
David ,   Karemiel, Israel   (08.17.09)
So let's watch while innocent people get killed while hundreds of millions of shekels are being aloocated to Haredi Education! Now we know where our priorities lie!
5. Our Police Force
David Chester ,   Petach Tikva, Israel   (08.19.09)
It is not that we don;t have enough of them but that they are not seen often enough. It is my impression that the amount of neglect of police-men give to what should be their duty, namely of patroling and visiting difficult locations, is why they are not effective in stopping crime. In many cases of complaints by neighbours, the police action was too little or too late and a general lack of responsibility is apparent throughout our undisciplined society.
