"Yonatan, don't lie to yourself. The Israelis did play a role in the eviction of the Palestinian people from their homes in 1948" I don't lie! I said "450,000 Arabs ran from Israel in 1948, no ethnic cleansing since plenty stayed and still live in Israel with their descendants." "No ethnic cleansing" does not even come close to "didn't play a role in the eviction" of those that left. Of course they played a role. In every war people are displaced. On the eve of the Israeli Declaration of Independence, Ben Gurion asked ALL Arabs living in Israel to stay and live with us in peace. You can look up the video. All the Arab Muslim nations told them to leave, that "the Jews will treat you the way we treated them and will take revenge against you". You don't like that, just look at the interview with Abbas where he admits it. Then 7 Arab nations invaded Israel and told the Arabs living here to leave and get out of the way of their armies. They told them that after they've destroyed the Jewish State and murdered all the Jews that the Arabs will be able to come back to their homes and take all the land that was owned by Jews as well. The Arabs ethnically cleansed every area of Jews that they occupied at the end of the war, stole all land owned by Jews, and gave it to Arabs. Some Arabs were forced out of their homes by the Israeli army during the fighting, but the overwhelming majority were either forced out of their homes by Arab armies or left at the urging of Arab leaders. More than half of the Arabs living in Israel stayed and still live here with their descendents. Some of the displaced Arabs did return to their homes after the war without consequence. The overwhelming majority of those that left believed the Arab leaders who told them to accept the UN offer of refugee status. The Arab countries promised them that it would only be for a few months and that they would soon destroy Israel and kill all the Jews. Then they would get all the land for themselves.

JEWS WERE KICKED OUT OF ARAB COUTIRES - ARABS WERE KICKED OUT OF ISRAEL FAIR POP-SWAP NO $$ FOR PALIS
33. Whatever "compensation" must come from their Arab brothers
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (08.18.09)
It was, of course, the Arabs who made war on the nascent Jewish state, the Arabs who insisted they leave, the Arabs who drove out their own Jewish population and seized their property, the Arabs who refused to take responsibility for their brothers. I'm not giving a lot of credence to this report, given its source. Of course, I wouldn't put it beyond Carter, Baker and Scowcroft to come up with something like this. But any such discussions violate a recent Congressional resolution that all discussions over Palestinian refugees must also similarly discuss Jewish refugees. And the US public will oppose funding any compensation since we have no responsibility for their refugee status.
34. Arafat already floated this idea years ago
Steve from Raleigh   (08.18.09)
The number he suggested was 1 trillion dollars.
35. To #3 - Egypt is a direct party in the conflict
L. King ,   Toronto, Canada   (08.18.09)
Egypt went to war against Israel in 1948, 1956, 1967 and 1973 in order to "liberate Palestine". They destroyed the possibility of an early Palestinian State by rejecting Partition and subjugating Gaza with brutal oppression for 19 years. Egypt set up the PLO. They are most certainly a direct party. Egypt owes the Palestinians compensation in the form of money, an apology and/or land. They also owe the same to Jews. Why is this not discussed?!

Nour THERE WILL NEVER BE PEACE UNTIL WE RETURN TO OUR HOMELAND Thank you for confirming that 2 states will not bring peace. At best we will have 3-4 years of calm but when the palstinians get used to the idea they now have a state they will decide they didn't get a fair deal and demand more and if we refuse to give them more then there will be terror. Tthis time it will cost alot more lives because `israel will no longer control the borders. and the palestinians will have been able to buy weapons and import materials to prepare for a long drawn out war. At the end of it though the palestinian state will end up resembling Beruit in the 80s rashid Those homes now belong to the israeli government under the Absentee Property Law. One day that house you claim to have a key to is probably going to be sold to a jewish developer who will demolish it and use the land to build luxury apartments which will be bought by rich jews. I am afraid a key won't get you anywhere if it is true and that place ONCE belonged to your family it doesn't anymore and never will again no matter how many keys you have. Time for your people to face the reality that right of return is a fantasy thats never going to happen and the sooner you can accept that 21st century reality the sooner you can all move on.

40. Compensation for Jewish Refugees from the Middle East
Am Salam ,   Israel   (08.18.09)
My family was driven out of, Morocco, Algeria and the Old City of Jerusalem (i.e. Jordanian captivity). Where is our compensation?! Why don't we receive permanent refugee status, the sympathy of the world and billions of $ in aid!?! Do I smell hypocrisy?!

45. #30 and after they've taken their money and left??
rebecca ,   modiin   (08.18.09)
Then they come back and demand that this has been their home and tell the world they want it back - they never sold it...
46. #2 your father and grandfather are fools
rebecca ,   Modiin   (08.18.09)
Fools for listening to the invaders in the first place, and running away, fools for hating insted of learning to live together, fools for not making lives for themselves where ever they landed up. And the result is you - wasting your time wanting something that has never been yours.

Now I get it. That must be the reason why my husband's family fled Iraq 40 years before Israel was even a state. I guess they just couldn't wait to leave the homes and businesses they owned in Iraq to live in "luxury" in Israel with eight people in a room!!!
48. #2 - Produce a land deed then we'll talk
William ,   Israel   (08.18.09)
My guess is your father and grandfather migrated, as all Arabs do, to a land of more wealth in search of jobs. Could your family be one of the hundreds of thousands who crossed illegally into Palestine, as observed and cited by the British, then squatted on open land? If you want justice, then let's talk about this first, including the Jews who lost their land and wealth in 1920, 1929 massacres, and 1948 ethnic cleansings. Waiving your "right of return" would be the best move Pals ever made.
49. #41 - Ghostq - Very good point
William ,   Israel   (08.18.09)
I hadn't thought that when you run for your life, you tend not to lock the door to your house and turn off the lights.

Uzziel   (08.18.09)
And Turkey is already arabic...So we laugh at you first... Also I notice the immense, and traditional, arab-fakestinian hypocrisy, lately joined by servant spaniards like "marco from spain" affirming that Mubarak is a dictator!! Which arab head of state is not a dictator. Or is it his political position that offends you? Anyway relax, he´s only seeking the election of Gamal as his successor, after that he will be the arab thug he`s always been.
