Our healthcare system is strictly for profit, they don't care if people die or go bankrupt. Every procedure costs thousands of dollars. The whole healthcare system is corrupt. There is no question that there are problems with the delivery of healthcare here in the US. However, we, the majority, are staunchly opposed to any system that would hand control of our healthcare decisions over to any government agency. Are we happy with our insurance companies? Surprisingly on the whole, yes. Are there examples of egregious behavior by some companies? Yes. But they are the exception not the norm. In fact, the example cited by #3 is a bit inaccurate. Under the laws of the various states of the United States, if you have health insurance and are chronically sick, as long as it is a covered expense the insurance company is obligated to pay. What is the maximum amount they will pay? Sometimes there are sub-limits, but most policies give the policy holder up to $1 million of coverage. Further, they cannot "pull the plug" on you while you are on claim. That is expressly forbidden by law. Further, the problems with our healthcare system is because of the governments and certain other non-market entities interfering. We have de facto price controls which limit the supply of healthcare and correspondingly drive demand up. We don't want more of the same. Sorry. I certainly hope your healthcare in Israel is good, but your are absolutely wrong to claim that the US system is the worst in the world. I would award that to places like Cuba, Russia, China, or any Muslim state in the world.

Currently my company (a major US company) provides my health insurance. They pay the premioums and I contribute a small portion. I have very good coverage that includes eye care and dental for $48.00 a month from my pocket. What I want to know is: If there is the public plan what would be the incentive to my company to pay for my coverage? In the first readon to cut cost health insurance would be the first item to be cut and I would fall into the public plan becoming a burdon to the nation. I belive the solution is to provide health care only to those who cannot afford via a wellfare type program and let all others either pay for their own or their employers pay all or most of it as it is now. And of course make legislation to lower malpractise insurance costs and cheaper prescription drugs.
