1. HOW DO THEY RESPECT OUR HOLIDAYS?
sergio ,   Turin, Italy   (08.21.09)
Do they stop playing their music very loudly at night on Shabbat and Holidays? Do they stop driving and smoking near us? WHY ALWAYS BEHAVE LIKE SLAVES AFRAID OF THEIR MASTERS?
2. WHY NOT ON TISHA B'AV, YOM KIPPUR, AND NO CHOMETZ ON PESACH?
Chaim   (08.21.09)
"The soldiers were instructed to act respectfully towards the residents and refrain as much as possible from eating, drinking and smoking in public in front of the Palestinian population, particularly at crossings, during the fasting hours." SO WHY NOT ON TISHA B'AV, YOM KIPPUR, AND NO CHOMETZ ON PESACH???
3. This is total non-sense
Avraham ,   nyc   (08.21.09)
We're talking about Jewish Army in the supposedly Jewish state accomodating the "Palestinian" Arab enemy? Attitudes like this from the absent-minded Israeli elitist leadership are Israel's main problem - not the Arab threats.
4. Nice to be respectful during holidays. In return?
William ,   Israel   (08.21.09)
Will Muslims be respectful of Jews by not eating leavened products near Jews on Pesach, or eating, driving, smoking around Jews on Yom Kippur? I agree with being respectful of other religions, but it seems while we honor Ramadan, even to slow down or stop military activities, Arabs spit on Judaism as if it were a sub-human curse.
5. Terrorist increase acitvities during Ramadan
William ,   Israel   (08.21.09)
Islamists believe that Ramadan is the perfect time to honor Muhammed and Allah by conducting Jihad operations. While easing restrictions is a noble act by the IDF, be careful of those within Pal society that seek to gain from this opportunity to sow death and mayhem, especially during this holiday.
6. ... gun shaped toys!?!?!?!? ARE THEY NUTS?
Zvi   (08.21.09)
Gun shaped toys should be BANNED across the WB. Any teenager in a flashpoint area who plays with anything that looks like a real weapon could easily be shot by border guards / IDF soldiers in self defense, or even by PA police or members of a rival clan or street gang acting in self defense. Once you allow kids to play with these things, it's really impossible to enforce rules about who they point them at. The IDF and the PA are nuts to agree to this. NUTS, both of them. As for Arab parents - any WB parent who ALLOWS their kids to play with toy guns within the current context should be locked up as a danger to their own children. Anyone requesting to allow this should be locked up for setting up a scenario in which some stupid kid will get himself killed and any chance of peace during this decade will be blown to smithereens. Fatah's leaders, even though most of them are dumber than rocks, should at least be sensible enough to see that this situation would destroy the prosperity and relative freedom that has recently begun to return to the WB, prosperity and freedom that stand in stark comparison to the disastrous hell brought about by the policies of Hamas and that leads most WBers to support Fatah over Hamas. In any case, guns have NO legitimate place in any religious celebration. They have NOTHING to do with Islam or any other religion, and everything to do with killing people. If you want to tell me that shooting guns is a traditional way to celebrate in the Arab world, then I'll tell you that guns have only been in the hands of the average Arab man for a few generations. Before that, WB people found perfectly good Islamic ways to celebrate that did not involve firing automatic weapons into the air and risking the bullets falling back down on their friends and families. And Arab kids were able to celebrate without practicing to become terrorists.
7. Why are we Dhimmis in our own country?
Joe ,   Ramat Gan   (08.21.09)
Oh, I forgot- we have traitors running the defense establishment. I can't wait for the next elections, when Barak and Labor get as many seats (and as much political clout) as Ichud Leumi...
8. Polite
P ,   Philadelphia   (08.21.09)
This is a politeness that will hopefully help lessen tensions. Were both Arabs and Jewish Israelis to do more of this, it would go a long way towards building a better atmosphere for peace.
9. Gesture
Abdel ,   Nablus   (08.21.09)
Good tasteful gesture...may they be more of these coming from both sides....
10. Do Arabs refrain from eating in front of Jews on Yom Kippur?
David ,   Hartford USA   (08.21.09)
Maybe Israeli TV will cancel all food commercials because it will 'insult' the Arabs. For a people that routinely kill their wives and daughters for the slightest 'offenses', that dip their hands in the blood of Jewish soldiers, that beat themselves bloody to 'honor' their prophets, you'd think that someone eating in front of them on ramadan wouldn't be a big deal. Whoever would have thought that these strong men were so easily humiliated!
11. WHY NOT ASK ISRAELIS TO FOLLOW THE RAMADAN TOO?!!!
Tom ,   New York, USA   (08.21.09)
Plain crazy to ask Israelis to follow Islam's religious practices. Jews who live in Diaspora do not ask Christians to stop living their lives because there is a particular Jewish festival!!!! It is typical of the sickness that Israeli society has reached concerning Muslims!! To allow them to put loudspeakers on their mosques, and so on!! Muslims are the minority. They should accept that the majority lives their lives normally, no matter what happens to Muslims living in Israel during Muslims' religious events!!!!!!
12. Eating
daat y ,   jerusalem   (08.21.09)
Respect the palestinians Ramadan but you do not have to respect EATING CHAMETZ IN PUBLIC PLACES ON PASSOVER..
13. An other order of the day by Barak
Moshe   (08.21.09)
Let's soldiers eat wherever and whenever they so choose.
14. So Hamas can send children to run at soldiers with toy guns
Here we go again   (08.21.09)
If I'd see a 17 year old child running at me with uniform and gun, I'd fire before checking if his gun was real. Then the BBC would report that IDF killed a child. Hamas would pay his parents 20 donkeys or 5 camels. 5 camels are a really cheap price for a "Child murdered by IDF" headline.
15. Hell no!!
Michael Steiner ,   Bahrain   (08.21.09)
These are the same instructions I receive in Bahrain and, before coming here, Saudi Arabia and Oman. My response is that I am not a Muslim and none of the Ramadan injunctions apply to me. I was once challenged by a busybody when I was munching thru a pack of blackberries on a street in Riyadh on a sweltering (48 degrees!) August day. "La akul!", he demanded. I gesticulated to him with one of my fingers and told him to shove it. He got the message. I see absolutely no reason why the soldiers should refrain from eating, etc. It has nothing to do with respect. What is one supposed to be respecting by not eating in front of Muslims?!?
16. Yom Kippur
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (08.21.09)
And what do the Arabs do on Yom Kippur? Other than start wars.
17. Exactly like Arbs respected Yom Kippur in Acre last year
Genuine Tosefta ,   Tveria   (08.21.09)
and many other acts of disrespect toward other religions
18. Can IDF throw shoes at them then?
Genuine Tosefta ,   Tveria   (08.21.09)
because Arbs are not allowed to that during Ramadan
19. Sounds like a perfect time to b-b-q some ribs & let that
aroma whaff over 2 ,   that damn gold dome!   (08.21.09)
20. This is stupid
Ran   (08.21.09)
we are not muslims, so why should we bow the knee to muslim customs? another politically correct show of weakness. and weakness always results in bloodshed (our blood).
21. ????????
Ellen ,   Israel/USA   (08.21.09)
Forget Arabs not eating if front of me when I fast. How about the non-religous Jews that eat--and the restaurants ( even those with kosher certification) that are open!!! I am NOT telling anyone to stop. I AM saying I am a grown-up--I'll deal with you eating in my vision--now lets get the Arabs to deal with it too! The soldiers are hot and hungry--they have a right to eat and drink--if the Arabs don't like it--they can stay indoors away from where they will see anything 'offensive" re": toy guns. Wed. night in Netanya there was a festival on the main street. A number of Arab attended too. A boy around 7 or 8 with his family had two toy guns. He stood on the street and "made believe' to point them at the Jews all around. Mom stood by proudly smiling. Anyone want to guess what this kid will be doing in another ten years. Security should have thrown him and his guns out! A festival should not be a playground for terrorists in training.
22. you shouldnt live near them either
jonathan ,   usa   (08.21.09)
23. This has got to be mock news
Matityahu ,   Slovenia   (08.21.09)

Pals during Ramadan if Pals agree not to honk their horns, play loud Arabic music, and bomb pizza parlors on Yom Kippur.

27. There is something wrong with the min
jason white ,   afula,israel   (08.21.09)
of defense. He is supposed to defend us and not worry about offending others. There is no respect for our Holidays, places of worship or holy books by the moslims.
28. How about the arabs stop breathing when
jason white ,   afula,israel   (08.21.09)
soldiers are in the area. Just stop for five minutes.
29. disgusting racist comments. Shame on you all
yael ,   TA   (08.21.09)
people like you give Jews a bad name. respecting other people's religions is one of the major step toward final peace. remeber that in the WB we are the minority so we should respect them the same way we demand respect from those who go into Jewish areas.
30. Reminds me of that ridiculous "burkini" posting about the UK
Cameron ,   USA   (08.21.09)
Talk about a foolish bit of progressive pandering. Man, sit down to a good lunch, and let them concern themselves with the Ramadan routine. Have had enough of Muslims, and their tiresome crap.
