There is a large number of Moslim students. Many fast during Ramadan. Should we eliminate lunch during that time period. After all the kids have to watch the non-Moslims eat. If we live in a mult-cultural society then we deal with multiple cultures--it isn't disrespect it is reality. Not eating is the first step toward dhimmihood. The Moslems make no secret of wanting world domination. Israel should not be helping!

Respect for other people's religion and culture is the foundation of a civilizated nation. Israel's policies toward Palestinians and Arabs should be actually: if you want peace and prosperity, you will become this; if you want war and suffering, you will become that in retourn. Israel has chosen her moral standarts already and must stick to her values. Palestinians should become their chance, on the condition that they do the right choice too and deserve the trust which is granted them.

This "request" was also publicized last year. I didn't agree with it then, and I still don't. But this is hardly a new trend in Israel. It comes out of the same mentality that gave control of the Temple Mount back to the Waqf after Israel won it back. The irony is that though Islam has no tradition of respecting other faiths - quite the opposite - non-Muslim majorities are expected to respect and be sensitive to Muslims and their practices. Consider: Muslim-only prayer rooms and "foot baths" at publicly funded universities in the US; amplified calls to prayer from minarets put up in majority Christian neighborhoods; toilets in UK prisons reoriented so as not to point to Mecca; Muslim "modesty" standards proposed for some UK public pools (cancelled due to public outrage); and much more. Enough already. Such sensitivity is taken to be "submission" and a sign of weakness.

Yael, get off of your ivory tower in Tel Aviv. The points made here are extremely valid....why do for them when they don't even respect us as humans, let alone respect our holidays? You want to push peace by doing one-sided gestures....begin by honoring both Jews and Arabs and go live with them in Ramallah. Peace is a condition when BOTH sides are involved, and we have that only with Jordan and Egypt. We tried to unilateral peace moves before and they blew up in our faces. There are Muslims who consider just the existence of Israel as an insult and never accept peace. Besides - Ramadan is a time for person introspection, which must be against all outside influences. It's an act of personal intention and power to keep Ramadan vows despite watching people eat in front of you....just like Jews must do on Shabbat, Pesach, and Yom Kippur. In Arabs countries, you get thrown in jail for not acting Muslim. So, how far would you like us to go to appease Muslims for peace? Still believe giving everything will get you accepted?
