1. Mr. Gordon
Ricardo Macher ,   KarneiShomron-Israel   (08.23.09)
Dear Mr. Gordon. Please understand this clearly. We don't give a s@#t about what you really meant! You have been sleeping with the enemy for a long time and you don't deserve the right to teach our children. You should be banned from any university, let alone getting money from spreading anti Jewish positions.
2. Peace under Oslo
Jackie ,   Florida   (08.23.09)
Gordon refers to peace since the Oslo accords in his complaints about the population of Samaria and Judea increasing. Maybe Ihave been sleeping, but I seem to recall a surge of attacks on Jews living in Israel after the Oslo accord. Am I wrong?
3. freedom of speech????
Lisa   (08.23.09)
so this lecturer is allowed to have his say- openly agitating against Israel? Is this called 'freedom of speech' too? He should be fired- . A Swedish reporter writes a revolting article in a daily rag and all hell breaks loose- this academic writes and publishes in respected papers internationally and what? hardly a peep from anybody- what is going on? The Aftonbladet- nobody believes this trash- this man however is a so called 'expert'- this is major treason- and what is doe about it? This boggles the mind.
4. Do we need the Arab enemies who want to destroy Israel
Dan ,   USA   (08.23.09)
when we have the Jews like Gordon who wants the same?
5. Neve Gordon
Df ,   Beer Sheva, Israel   (08.23.09)
Who is he trying to kid ? I just read the original op-ed in the LA Times. There is no qualification. "I consequently have decided to support the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement that was launched by Palestinian activists in July 2005 and has since garnered widespread support around the globe. The objective is to ensure that Israel respects its obligations under international law and that Palestinians are granted the right to self-determination." He mentions the conference in Bilbao that supports graduated pressure but does not state that this is what he supports. The quote above is a statement of his support for the boycott. BTW - the focus of the international boycotts is Israel - period.
6. shooting your own foot, he is not smart isn't he
ghostq   (08.23.09)
what happened when England or other countries will boycotte Israelies academic lectures mmm I guess he like to stand in line of unemployment. ti hy smart he is defenetly not.
7. LA Times still withholding the Obama-Khalidi Tape
(08.23.09)
LA Times refused to release the tape before the election, in order to hide Obama's anti-Israel rhetoric from the American public.
8. Oren Yiftachel
Robert Haymond ,   Ashdod, Israel   (08.23.09)
is quoted in this article as being one of the professors who defend Neve Gordon's right to free speech and freedom to criticize the state of Israel. If you go to isracampus.org.il, you will find Mr. Yiftachel's profile there along with a dozen other "liberal" professors (topped by Neve Gordon) who make it either their vocation or avocation to critique and defame Israel. Of course there are other professors at BGU who back Neve Gordon up. The social sciences as well as certain other departments are, and have been, hotbeds of anti-Israeli hysteria for many years. As far as the academic freedom which these professors tout so highly, it is documented that if you are a student and don't go along with their socalled liberal views, you don't pass and you don't get a degree. So much for freedom of speech, etc.
9. IQ of lecturers in Israel universities?
Buchner ,   Paris, France   (08.23.09)
I am appalled that this Gordon guy got a job as a lecturer in an Israel University. It very common to hear this apartheid arguments, but honestly, I cannot understand this. What does apartheid means in this context? In Israel, there are Palestinians, muslims, christian, black living with more or less the same rights. This is not so inthe neighboring countries such as Palestine, Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia etc. So I would rather speak of apartheid for these countries!! So I am surprised that someone who belongs to the university system doesn't even know the meaning of words. And that he got a job as a lecturer. I thought the isreali university system was competitive!
10. Finally an Israeli professor who makes sense
palestinian ,   dc   (08.23.09)
Dr. Neve Gordon is one of the few rational and honest professors inside of Israel. Most left israel a long time ago. The entire world knows the truth and eventually truth and justuce will prevail. Kudo's to Neve Gordon !
11. Evading Tough and Important Questions
Miranda Rose Smith   (08.23.09)
Does Professor Gordon think for a minute that the Arab states will change their stance on Israel if Israel gives back land? Giving back Gaza didn't change a thing, did it? It was just more land for Arabs to shoot at Israel from. Every inch of the so-called "occupied territories" was Arab land before the Six Day War and the Arab states were still determined to wipe Israel off the map. Israel, where the Arabs vote, sit in the Knesset, go to universities, where Arab doctors treat Jewish patients and Jewish doctors treat Arab patients, where Arabs and Jews ride the same buses and eat in the same restaurants, Israel, which has no miscegenation laws, Israel, which took in Ethiopeans and boat people, is the least apartheid country on the planet, and Professor Gordon knows it. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict will be settled the day the Arab states in general, and Jordan in particular, admit that there is no such thing as "the Palestinian people," culturally, historically, linguistically, they are Arabs, and the Arab states in general, and Jordan in particular, should take in the descendants of those Arabs who either left Israel in 1948, figuring Israel would be defeated in a week and they could come back and loot Jewish property, or who were expelled after seven Arab states attacked Israel. After all, Israel took in the Jews who were expelled from Arab lands, didn't she? To give back the settlements would be a disaster for Israel. The Arabs would immediately start calling Tel Aviv a settlement and demanding it back. When the Arabs start calling Ramat Gan a settlement, will Professor Gordon call for a mild, graded boycott of Elite Chocolate?
12. #10 this is in sharp contrast with what you don't have
Genuine Tosefta ,   Tveria   (08.23.09)
on your side and the rest of the Arb and Muslim worlds. None of you makes sense, and none of you wants Peace of equal accommodation with non-Muslims. External and internal conflicts are the lifeblood of Arb society and conflict in the Arb world is not seen as a problem that requires a peaceful solution. Millions in the Muslim and Arb worlds are nursed by fantasies, hypocrisies, and conspiracies to explain away their own failures. The Arb mind is not open enough not to explain everything with a 'conspiracy theory'. The biggest problem with conspiracy theories is that they keep them not only from the truth, but also from confronting their faults and problems. This way of thinking relates any given problem to external elements, and thus does not lead to a rational policy to confront the problem. Blame has become the opium of the Arbs, and the greatest blame for their failures is that directed at the United States and, of course, Israel. It is their power, not its uses, that enrages the Arbs who are trapped in their own self-made weakness.
13. #11
(08.23.09)
Ethiopians are stopped from sending their kids to jewish schools. Ethiopian women are stopped from grtting on Egged buses. That is racism and apartheid behaviour!
14. Common sense, Decency and Academic Freedom
Shalom Freedman ,   Jerusalem   (08.23.09)
I understand Academic Freedom to mean having the right to inquire to the end about the subject or subjects one is researching in, and to publish the conclusions however unconventional and far- reaching they are. What does that have to do with going outside one's country and calling for punitive measures against it? Is it possible that Ben- Gurion University's Administration cannot tell the difference between the search for truth in real academic research, and the blabbing of treasonous propaganda?
15. Gordon calls Israel an apartheid state
DP ,   NY   (08.23.09)
Ah, I see, and the mandatory death penalty for any Arab selling land to a Jew is what, Mr. Gordon?
16. to No 11
alexander tel-aviv   (08.23.09)
These are isolated insidents and they are dealt with - they aren't covered or hushed up. You ceratinly don't understand the term "apartheid" and you don't care, don't hide behind it.
17. to #13 lol I saw an arab taxi driver who make
ghostq   (08.23.09)
fun off african immigrant and didn't let him of the bus, the african didn't got out in the right station and had to walk. so acording to your logic arab taxi drivers r racist and should be ban from the profession.
18. Ethiopean Women Stopped from Getting on Egged Bus
Miranda Rose Smith   (08.23.09)
Who says Ethiopeans can't send their children to Jewish schools? Who says Ethiopean women are stopped from getting on Egged buses? A bus I ride quite frequently has an Ethiopean driver.
19. Now that you mention it
Miranda Rose Smith   (08.23.09)
I remember and I'm sure 13, who didn't have the nerve to sign his name also remembers, that when it was reported that a school in, I believe, Petach Tikva, was banning Ethiopean students, there were howls of indignation from one end of the country to the other.
20. If he was teaching this in the States, he'd be granted
tenure in his first ,   week.What a putz.   (08.23.09)
21. Miranda Rose Smith
AK   (08.23.09)
Go and fight for Muslim women for their right to walk the streets without a scarf, change religion, marry a man of their choice, you hypocrite. How much do you do to fight 'honor killings'? Israel is only beacon of freedom and human rights in the sewer that is Middle Eastern, yet it is the only place that you criticize?
22. Distillation
Keith Anthony ,   London England   (08.24.09)
The bottom line is, aren't all his statements of fact true? Isn't there an apartheid state, together with all the evils that brings? Keep it real, being Israeli does not mean you are prevented from using your eyes and brains
23. #22...ENGLAND IS APARTHEID & CRUEL STATE
ABRAHAM ben JACOB ,   CANADA   (08.28.09)
IN ENGLAND THERE ARE LORDS, DUKES, PRINCES, AND OTHER SIMILAR SORTS AND THEY, IN THEIR EVIL WAYS WILL NOT ALLOW THE " COMMON ENGLISHMAN " TO JOIN THEIR EXCLUSIVE CLUBS, OR " APARTHEID CLUBS ". THE COMMON ENGLISH BLOKE HAS A TOUGH TIME LIVING AMONGST THE ENGLISH APARTHEID CROWD AND THEIR EVIL WAYS.. THE COMMON AVERAGE ENGLISHMEN FINDS IT DIFFICULT TO PLAY POLO.... THIS IS APARTHEID AND CRUELTY. THER ARE SOME SANE VOICES STILL LEFT IN ENGLAND'S APARTHEID CULTURE. REGARDING THE FOX HUNTS USING DOGS ,.............. THE LEAGUE AGAINST CRUEL SPORTS, IS CLAIMING CRUELTY OF THE APARTHEID " FOX HUNTS ". IN APARTHEID LANGUAGE, THIS IS CALLED " SPORT HUNTING". IN ENGLAND , "There have been many attempts to ban hunting " BY A BRAVE GROUP WHO SPEAK OUT AGINST THE EVILS OF THE CRUELTY OF THE HUNT. BUT TO NO AVAIL, THS ENGLISH COLONIAL APARTHEID RULING CLASS OF ENGLISHMEN WANT TO KILL THE FOXES AND TO KEEP THEIR " SPORT " . THEN THE APARTHEID COLONIAL ENGLISH UPPER CLASSES HAVE THE NERVE TO CRITICISE OTHERS SO THAT THEY MAY HIDE THEIR OWN CRUELTY AND EVIL WAYS IN SUCH AN APARTHEID LIKE AND CRUEL " SPORT ".
24.  WORDS, ACTIONS , CONSEQUENCES
ABRAHAM ben JACOB ,   CANADA   (08.28.09)
THE GORDON FIASCO SHOWED US HOW MUCH PEOPLE CARE ABOUT WORDS AND THE USE OF WORDS IN DESCRIBING SITUATIONS, PEOPLE, PLACES. WORDS SHOULD BE THOUGHT OUT CAREFULLY AS THEY CAN REALLY HURT OR HELP. THEY CAN CAUSE SUFFERING OR USING THE RIGHT WORDS THEY CAN BE A CURE. GORDON'S WORDS, AND BEHAVIOUR ARE TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE EVEN IN THE MOST TOLERANT COUNTRIES AND THE MOST TOLERANT UNVIVERSITIES. THERE CAN BE NO QUESTION THAT GORDON HAS CERTAINLY COMMITTED AN OFFENSE OF WHICH HE PROBABLY WISHES HE HAD BEEN MORE CAREFUL WITH HIS CHOICE OF WORDS. HE HAS BEEN CAUGHT IN AN EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE SITUATION, IN THE LIMELIGHT OF THE REAL WORLD , AND OUTSIDE THE SAFETY NET OF THE UNIVERSITY. UNIVERSITY PEOPLE SOMETIMES LOSE SIGHT OF THE REAL WORLD, BECAUSE WE LIVE IN A COMMUNITY ON CAMPUS WHICH HAS SUCH A SELF-ENCLOSED AND SAFE-LIKE NATURE AND ENVIRENMENT. IT'S LIKE BEING IN A PLAYGROUND WHERE OUR ACTIONS REALLY BEAR NO GRAVE CONSEQUENCES. WE CAN CONFUSE THE UNIVERSITY WORLD WITH THE REAL WORLD, AND THIS IS THE REAL DANGER. ACADEMICS, STUDENTS LIVE IN THIS COMMUNITY SETTING WHICH ALLOWS DISSENT AND FREEDOM OF OPINION, BUT THE OUTSIDE REAL WORLD CAN POSE A CRUEL AND RUDE AWAKENING AND IT IS VERY UNFORGIVING. AND YES, IN THE REAL WORLD, THERE ARE REAL CONSEQUENCES FOR OUR WORDS AND ACTIONS.
25. PAL.#10... WE AGREE WITH #12 - AND JORDAN IS YOUR HOME !
ABRAHAM ben JACOB ,   CANADA   (08.28.09)
#10.. THE PAL/ARAB SAID THAT " ...........Dr. Neve Gordon is one of the few rational and honest professors inside of Israel. Most left israel a long time ago. " WHEN AN ARAB/ PAL IS ON THE SAME SIDE OF THE ISRAELI PROF. GORDON, THEN WE CAN SAFELY SAY THAT GORDON IS 110 PER CENT DEAD WRONG IN HIS ACCUSATIONS AGAINST ISRAEL. IF #10, THE PAL./ARAB DOES NOT LIKE ISRAEL, THEN FEEL FREE TO TO GO TO YOUR TRUE HOME OF JORDAN. WHY COMPLAIN ABOUT ISRAEL, WHEN YOU CAN JUST GO WHERE MILLIONS OF YOUR BRETHREN ARE AND BE AT HOME. THEY ARE LIVING IN THEIR OWN DEMOCRATIC STATE CALLED JORDAN, WITH THE " DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED KING " OF JORDAN. I QUOTE #12 BECAUSE I AGREE WITH HIM AND IT IS SO TRUE THAT "the Arbs who are trapped in their own self-made weakness. '........ AND THE ARABS HATE AND DETEST ISRAEL AND THE U.S.A. BECAUSE NO ARAB OR MUSLIM COUNTRY HAS ANYTHING CLOSE TO FREEDOM OR DEMOCRACY, LIKE ISRAEL AND THE USA. IF THE ARAB/MUSLIMS COUNTRIES REALLY WANTED , THEY COULD BE MORE TOLERANT AND HAVE A WEE BIT OF DEMOCRACY. BUT THEY LIVE WITH ENVY AND THEY HATE THOSE WHO ACHIEVE REAL DEMOCRACY AND HAVE REAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS. YOUR BRETHREN WITH ALL THEIR OIL BILLIONS CANNOT ACHIEVE DEMOCRACY OR ANY REAL POSITIVE ACHIEVEMENTS. THEY WALLOW IN THEIR OIL WEALTH AND DON'T KNOW HOW TO BECOME CIVILISED.
26. Anti-Semetic Zionism
Rina   (08.28.09)
Dr Neve Gordon's action an example. I didn't know this existed until recently (sadly many Israelis don't either). Of grave concern to the nation. Uru achim.
27. Israeli lecturer....
eva katz ,   zichron, Israel   (08.28.09)
I think it took personal integrity and courage to express these views. Gordon will have a tough time but should hold firm, certainly as a teacher and researcher.
28. Sanity
keith anthony ,   Reading England   (09.17.09)
As demonstrated by Abraham Ben Jacob, reason gives way to subhuman degrees of instinct. One could not call this "intelligence". However, the land is stolen, retained and expanded by the use of force on highly disproportionate levels, and murder. So he should keep talking about England, a place he has clearly only seen on tv.
29. What?
Keith Anthony ,   Reading, England   (09.17.09)
What on earth is Mrs Smith talking about? 1) Its a fairly silly argument to discuss what might happen if Israel gave back the stolen land that it retains only through terror and oppression. Firstly because Israel clearly has no intention of returning the land. It would love peace discussions for the next 1000 years, while importing Jews from Mars, Venus and beyond to establish greater settlements. And yes, people tend not to like states imposed upon them by foreigners, but obviously Israel is a de facto state and accepted. Israe, where Arabs are second class citizens, and treated as such, both legally and practically. What do you mean there is no such thing as the Palestinian people? If you are referring to the land that Israel currently occupies, then there is equally no such thing as Israeli people. That strip of land was occupied by several different groups including Jewish tribes and Arab tribes at different points in time. Learn your history, and not just to suit your perspective. If the Palestinians should return to Jordan etc, then perhaps you should return to Europe? The bottom line is, without big brother America standing behind you,you can;t keep what you steal.
30. UNDERSTANDING
Keith Anthony ,   London   (09.24.09)
I don't actually understand your version of English, however, you have clearly never visited England except on tv. I oppose foxhunting. I oppose murder, terrorism, discrimination and occupation. Therefore, I oppose Israeli policies. And I do understand that most Israelis supported the massacre in Gaza, as well as the barricade. An evil state.
