1. Good Idea-start in Gaza
Barney ,   USA   (08.24.09)
Start building instead of destroying. a novel idea but might actually work. start by making Gaza productive instead of terrorist entity. Rebuild the greenhouses that you immediately destroyed that could have been a basis for productivity. actions always speak louder than words. then start reeducating the "lost" generation of palestinian children that envision a middle east without Israel. Then you might actually be onto something.
2. who is paying the bills?
zionist forever   (08.24.09)
I am sure they intend the international community to give them a blank check and say build & enjoy but once they get their state I think they will find that the European & American voters will no longer be so willing to say spend what you want and send the bills to us, Why do they need an airport in the Jordan Valley? This state will be tiny & the EU spent billions to build Gaza international. They don't even have a state yet and they are making plans for a second international airport that they don't have the money to pay for. Building general infastructure, hosuing, rail links and agriculture it wlll probably take many tens if not hundreds of billions to carry out all the projects they have planned and they have no assets except possibly for $2-4 billion in oil off the Gaza coast. Both Obama & the EU need to tell them straight there will be no blank checks.

6. Good Progress, However...
Nour ,   Palestine   (08.25.09)
Fayyad should acknowledge corruption as a fundamental ennemy of the State, not just the obvious ennemy. When he has the cojones to publically condemn corruption and even build an anti-corruption agency, we will take Fayyad more seriously. For now, it's hats off to the technocrat.
7. Putting the Cart Before the Horse ... !
Abdel Karim Salim ,   Jerusalem - ISRAEL   (08.25.09)
They built an airport and a harbor in Gaza city as well as a notorious gambling casino,Oasis,in Jericho area before securing a permanent or at least a long-lasting peace with Israel and well before solving the complicated issues of Palestinian refugees, state with final borders, and Jerusalem city. They apparently chose to ignore the deadly powder keg that was there all the time and which exploded terribly when Sharon visited the Aksa Mosque in late 2000 and thus ignited the so-called " second intifada " ! Does the PA prime minister want to build and construct only to see his ambitious achievements totally destroyed by Israel and palestinian militants again ??? Make peace first , and then build and construct . At least that's a Masonic motto ... !
8. Not a bad way to go.

"Palestinians must not wait for a final peace settlement with Israel but get on with creating their state." "Our national duty stipulates that we should do whatever we can to get our economy out of the cycle of dependency and alienation." A lot of right wing Israelis probably agree with both statements. Start building, stop whining. It will be very healthy if the PA really does start to live in the real world instead of living in the morass of genocidal, violent delusions that characterized the recent Fatah congress. This is only a start, but it's a start. We'll see where it goes, I guess.
9. Prime Minister Salam Fayyad first things first
Psalms 83 ,   Selah   (08.25.09)
you must root out the bitterness from the palistinians that your organization ,hamas and hezbulah ingrained in them ...otherwise your proposed state will fail because of the internal hate politics that plauges your organization.... my guess is you won't try ... so until the messiah returns there will continue to be conflict....as the prophets of old in the Tanach declared would happen in the time of the end

12. Let’s be realistic.
Ron B. ,   Lod   (08.25.09)
The PA’s position is that it does not and will not recognize Israel as a Jewish state, and that roughly 5 million refugee descendants have a ‘right of return’ to Israel. What they are offering is to create a Palestinian state in the West Bank, and a temporarily binational state in what used to be Israel proper, which will soon dissolve into civil war. Of course, as long as Palestinians insist on RIGHT OF RETURN FOR “PALESTINIAN REFUGEES”, there isn’t going to be any two state solution. But even assuming that the Palestinians will offer acceptable terms, the two-state solution is not going to work. The reason at : http://xrl.us/berwte
13. A “Palestinian" state.
Ron B. ,   Lod   (08.25.09)
Under the 1933 Montevideo Treaty, a state must satisfy four specific requirements: It must have a permanent population, a defined territory, a government, and the capacity to enter into peaceful relations with other states. The Palestinian Authority under Abbas does not satisfy any one of these requisites. While it has “permanent residents,” it has also a large portion of unsettled refugees. And it certainly does not have “a defined territory” as evidenced by its official maps. Its display of all of Western Palestine is indicative of its intentions to undermine the Jewish State. As to a “government,” Abbas is running a gang rather than an acceptable government; it lacks legitimacy, as large portions of the Palestinians do not accept him as the leader. The fourth criterion is absolutely clear- it lacks the capacity to live in peace with its neighbor – Israel. To paraphrase Dean Acheson’s words: being “inoffensive” towards a Palestinian terrorist state would destroy the oldest, most vibrant democracy in the Middle East as explained at: http://xrl.us/berwte
