1. Israeli heritage in schools
Sharona ,   Jerusalem ISRAEL   (08.26.09)
Sa'ar has it right. Yuli Tamir should never get her hands on education again. Arabs who live here live in ISRAEL, the Jewish state as in UN RES181. There are over 20 Arab states, all who don't like it here are welcome to seek their fortunes elsewhere.
2. National Service for Arab citizens
Sharona ,   Jerusalem ISRAEL   (08.26.09)
This can be done to improve the quality of life in their own towns and villages. They don't have to join the IDF. But they would rather just bash Israel than make any constructive effort to help themselves.
3. I Disagree: Patriotism & Serving Nation Important
Hesh ,   Israel   (08.26.09)
A school should be responsible for teaching kids about responsibility and giving back to their nation - Israeli Arabs refuse to do national service in their own communities, let alone national service. Schools should be teahing kids how to be selfless and contribute, not to be selfish and serve only themselves. HeshSpeaksOut.com
4. Hummm let me get this right
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (08.26.09)
Teaching Arab propaganda is fine, but if the elected government wants to teach history that is wrong. Guess what Labor is no longer in charge and the lock that the extreme leftists have had on Israeli society is broken.
5. to #2 and #3 well said. bravo.

6. Yuli Tamir criticizes?
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (08.26.09)
Under Yuli Tamir, more and more money was spent while the University system collapsed and Israel's primary school education reached new lows. Her only "success" was teaching Israeli Arabs that Israel was a disaster that should be destroyed. She was Israel's worst education minister.
7. Schools not Likud branches, just like....
Ari   (08.26.09)
the knesset is not a branch of Hamas, like MK El-Sana seems to think....
8. the druze do national service so lets force the arabs to
zionist forever   (08.26.09)
The arabs were delighted when Yuli Tamir was planning to take some zionist & jewish issues of the curriculum and instead teach nakba. Basicly teaching Israeli students the same garbage that palestinian students get fed because it fits in with her personal left wing Peace Now ideology. Now the new eductaion minister wants more patriotism in schools the arabs are up in arms. The problem here isn't even the schools its the fact that arabs have been allowed to get away with anything. We don't demand any form of patirotism from them so they are allowed to become a fith collium. The law needs changing to force arabs to do some kind of civilian national service and demand loyalty. The druze by law have to serve in the military so lets make the arabs do civilian service by law. Also there need to be stricter laws on what an MK is or is not allowed to say or do because men like Tibi encourage arabs to hate Israel and if he oversteps the mark he should be thrown out as he should have been years ago.

"because men like Tibi encourage arabs to hate Israel" I think that Arabs don't need Tibi to encourage them to hate Israel. You and your likes are doing a much better job here.

you don't need us either to hate Israel furthermore Jews. you have the Koran to fuel you with hate.
11. Israel has no right to demand patriotism from Arabs.
Jacob ,   Cambridge, UK   (08.26.09)
For as long as Israel continues to be a state for some, rather than all, of its citizens, it has no right to demand patriotism from the remainder. Israeli Arabs are quite right to treat the state of Israel as an enemy with power over them rather than a homeland they owe loyalty to, because that is how it acts; the onus is on Israel to change that reality, rather than demanding that the Arabs ignore it. Until then, Arab Israelis have a duty to obey Israel's laws when just, and arguably to pay taxes (which most, although not all, of them fulfil), and Israel has an obligation to provide the same services and funding to them that it provides to the rest of its residents, and to allow them to vote (which it doesn't even pretend to fulfil). That's the downside of occupying another people's land against their will and treating them as second-class citizens. Israel should stop using its schools to promote zionism, acknowledge and apologise for the Nakba and its (many) other past mistreatments of the Arabs and teach them in schools, increase public spending on Arabs to parity with other sectors, and become a state for all its citizens, rather than a discriminatorily Jewish state. Then and only then will it have any right to demand patriotism from Arabs, but even before then it has obligations to them.

13. Arab educational system
Raphael ,   Netanya   (08.26.09)
in arab countries include a large importance to marks in Quran knowledge. This is a hypocrit way to exclude non muslims from universities and academies. The more, texts such as the "surat of the cow" is a blatant humiliation for dhimmi students. Let us recall that for dhimmis, exoneration from national service is compensated by payment of Jyzyia taxes: thus draft dodgers, be they Jews or Arabs, should be submitted to an equivalent tax in Israel.
