31. He should resign?
Jerrold Cohen ,   Seal Beach, USA   (08.28.09)
For telling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth? Never!
32. Professor Uri Ram, Dept. of Sociology
Robert Haymond ,   Ashdod, Israel   (08.28.09)
at BGU, is quoted as saying he is proud of being Neve Gordon's colleague. Wouldn't you know, Professor Ram is well represented in the academic hall of shame as profiled in the scriptures of isracampus.org.il just as Neve Gordon is. Professor Ram and Neve Gordon think just alike, as do many others in the social science departments of BGU. Just check out the aforementioned website, as noted. The point is, Neve Gordon is just one amongst many Ben Gurion personnel who seek the destabilation and demise of our country and, what's more, they are paid a handsome salary to do it all the while belching about academic freedom, a freedom mainly experienced by them and their own kind, a freedom for professional liberals only. The problem with Neve Gordon was that he went too far, endangering the very livelihood of the academic impostors on staff at BGU. He went too far and blew the cover of his academic colleagues. His "crime" did not consist in what he (Neve Gordon) said nor to whom he said it but rather that he embroiled his colleagues in his quest to outrage Israel while risking the country's precarious safety.
33. Something to think about
Lou ,   Bialystock   (08.28.09)
Coming across the worst anti Semites who have made it a habit of vilifying Israel they always refer to Jewish Jew haters like this guy and haaretz. They say, well if an Israeli can say it way can't I... that proves I am not an anti Semite. Wonder how the Swedish situation has gone so far, with people like this you know the rest of the story; they have been justifying hate speech because Israel allows Israelis to do it. How can Israelis expect fairness and respect from the world with Jews who misrepresent everything Israel stands for? I say he and all his supporters should be the first to go on trial for inciting anti Semitism and undermining Israel.
34. ~It is hypcritical for him to stay
jo   (08.28.09)
maybe purely academic ???? If one advocates such then one is required to live by the standard, it is not purely an academic excercise meant to prove a point and costs him nothing Principles are involved. Is a man's word and belief real action? Freedom of expression is an expression of his belief yet his belief is faulty, real principle would require one to act on what one believes. This costs him nothing. Sadly today men are shallow and not willing to pay or live by the consequences of their actions and words. Freedom of expression is just a catch word showing their irresponsibiltiy. A real lack of depth.
35. Neve Gordon and the Boycott
Df ,   Beer Sheva, Israel   (08.28.09)
I wonder if Gordon has the integrity to really back up his call for at least the academic boycott which he supports and volunteer to be the first Israeli academic to be hit by the boycott. Let him volunteer not to go to the foreign universities which he wants to boycott Israeli universities. Or does Neve Gordon like his foreign currency keren histalmut and sabbatical grant that he will not give up that perk ? Be intellectually honest Mr. Gordon - submit voluntarily to the boycott.
36. The Left doesn't lead by example
Ilan ,   Ariel   (08.28.09)
They are only keen at correcting the moral flaws of others as they see themselves immune to all criticism. It is easy for Gordon to call for a boycott of Israel academic institutions will continuing to collect a salary from the very same institution and to demand research funds from the state. It is a studied hypocrisy. .
37. Missing the root cause
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (08.28.09)
How did such a candidate get to become head of the department? How did so many fanatic leftists get hired to dominate the faculties of so many of our universities? Hire people whose professional outlook includes an inherent patriotism for Israel, her future and her people... and reject closed-minded sycophants to international "political correctness" (misojudaism). Until then, culling unpatriotic lecturers is tantamount to weeping over a couple of pine cones in the middle of a raging forest fire. If patriotic peers can be found in ANY of Israel's faculties, then this lecturer should be required to defend his position against the best of them in a public debate, followed by a public referendum. His job should depend on the outcome. In scientific circles, this approach is called peer review and a core principle. It could be that his views are more appropriate to a faculty position in Scandinavia, Europe or an Arab country. 38. The traitor is the plague.
Ron B. ,   Tel Aviv   (08.28.09)
“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within..” – Cicero. Jews who defame Israel are the most pernicious tools in the war against Israel and Jewry, those who, to paraphrase Cicero, move among us freely, teaching our young, their sly moral equivalence, which equates Israel with its tormentors, heard in the halls of government itself. They preen and strut as supposed devotees of “peace” and “justice.” More at : http://xrl.us/beh9va
39. The Defamation of the State
Joe ,   Israel   (08.28.09)
As an academic, Dr. Gordon should have avoided rhetoric and stuck to accuracy.in his depiction of Israel as an apartheid state. Historically, apartheid was based upon the view that blacks as a race are inferior to whites. I know of no Israeli who holds this position regarding Arabs. The superficial analysis of the Israeli-Palestinan problem incorporating parallels to apartheid has lead Dr. Gordon to defame the state and libel its governments of the past sixty years. Why not call us "Nazis" as some have done and continue to do? Don't we employ similar methods in our so-called occupation? Were these epithets to come from a ignorant person, we may brush it off but coming from an academic, it is inexcusable and he should draw the appropriate conclusions, as others wiser than he, have already suggested. Freedom of speech is not the issue to be debated but rather slander and defamation of the character of the state.
40. conflict of interests
Krachak ,   Israel   (08.28.09)
Let's lower the rhetorics. As a department head myself, I believe I can clearly see the simple technical nature of this case. Professor has an obligation to do research and to inform society of its results. Let us assume that the call for boycotte was within this domain (otherwise it must be published by a private citizen). Department head has an obligation to promote international cooperation. The rector is evidently right that Dr. Gordon has a clear conflict of interests between his position as a professor and his obligations as a department head. Since he cannot resign professorship and stay as a department head, it is clear that he must resign his administrative post. I don't see here any subject for discussion.
41. the worm within
Lisa   (08.28.09)
instead of critisizing and boycotting people around the world- maybe it is time to check out the rotten core within...Israelis are their own worst enemies.
42. #40 "I don't see here any subject for discussion. " Huh???
Stewart ,   U.S.A.   (08.28.09)
Typical academic. Use enough logic, and you can rationalize anything. Obviously, from the number of talkbacks, there are deeper issues here. Funny how many professors have no trouble stating their opinions, but then tell the rest of us there is nothing we SHOULD be discussing here. Want to know what happens to free speech and decension when a professorial type is elected to office? Look no further than Obama. They have all the rights to state their poorly backed opinions while the rest of us "nonintellectuals" are told to be quiet. As Dr. Michael Savage so aptly said, "Liberalism is a mental disorder." I believe the universities have become their modern asylums.
43. It is about time we ditched this freedom of speech BS
Shaul David ,   Acco Israel   (09.03.09)
This freedom of speech is being used to sink Israel by people who hate the state, and do everything to blacken it's name. It's time to rein in these shits.
44. Prof Gordon
Rob ,   Norfolk   (11.27.13)
I am going on a hunger strike in protest of all the injustice in the world. The hunger strike will be in effect all hours of the day, save breakfasttime, lunchtime & dinnertime.
