I don't think it's a good idea to encourage Israeli Arabs to do the military service, but why not ask them to do two/three years of civil service? They could serve as volunteers in hospitals or schools for instance.

Every country in the world demands loyalty of its citizens for the benefit of the whole. Egypt was recently calling for loyalty oaths by its citizens and Iran gunned down peaceful protesters en masse for this. Only Israel is being called "racist" for even considering such a call, one that will bridge the gaps between sectarianism, which Arab instigators thrive on, to produce one group...Israelis. I had the opportunity of browsing through books used in Arab schools - the amount of racism and history distortion appearing in those pages is alarming. I don't know how gevernments have tolerated this situation for 60 years! If we had implmented what the gov is trying to implement now, 60 years ago, we would have had more Arabs serving in the army defending THEIR country, more Arabs in National Service serving THEIR communities and less TRAITORS and ARAB RACISTS in the Parliament and less convicted Arab MP traitors on the run. And of course we wouldn't have had this argument.
