Palestinian American ,   Cleveland   (08.31.09)
plus it is an act of Piracy .. they are trying to deal with an enemy that uses starvation as a weapon in the 21st century . Goverments may not react, true .. but real men will see this as a reason for revenge .

can't take chances that are smuggling bombs, weapons, and other terrorist enterprises. it is a shame they have brought this on themselves but Israel made the rules of the game for security reasons which wouldn't be necessary without terrorists. now you know why we have to go to such extremes for protection. nothing more. nothing less
4. 'Boat burst into flames'. Hmm,perhaps they had explosives on
board?If warned,you ,   need to stop. IDIOTS   (08.31.09)

6. To #1 and #2
Yaron ,   USA   (08.31.09)
Let me guess, the large majority of Palestinians and Arabs are peace-loving people who want nothing more than to get on with their lives right? Let me guess, more from the religion of peace is to come I assume right? Where are your posts when Israel admits sick children and cares for Palestinians DESPITE the overt hatred and ancient blood libels perpetrated by our partners in peace. It is frankly revolting to even see your talkbacks. Go post on Hamas's website. May piece on you!
7. #2 BS asif they look like they are starving ....
rachel ,   usa   (08.31.09)
you bullshit won't work ....we see pictures of the stores well stocked full of food , plus all the welfare that they get from the international oraganizations .
8. If Gazans made peace
David ,   New England   (08.31.09)
They could engage in shipping and resorts. It's really prime real estate.
9. The obvious bias of AFP
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (08.31.09)
It only takes a few turns of phrase to reveal the bias of Agence France Press. "besieged Gaza Strip" and "fishermen struggle to ply their trade" Egypt, not just Israel, imposed restrictions on goods flowing into Gaza because a Hamas lead terror state is a threat to them too. And despite the "siege", the average Gazan lives better than the average Egyptian. Imagine that! And those "fishermen" are often used to retrieve armaments dropped off the coast. Israel has a right to blockade a hostile entity that is warring against them.
10. the navy has nothing to appologise for
zionist forever   (08.31.09)
These fisherman are allowed to fish within certain borders and the fisherman are not fools they know where they can and cannot go. They went outside the territory that the military blockade permits them and warning shots which they were given were ignored what do they expect to happen. Maybe if the terrorists stopped using fishing boats ( which they do ) to smuggle weapons which they use to try kill Israelis then there would not be a need for a naval blockade. The fishermen knew the score so they have nothing to complain about.
11. Israeli navy fires on fisherman
Mark   (08.31.09)
About 3,500 fishermen struggle to bring in weapons and arms off Gaza's 40-kilometer (25-mile) Mediterranean coastline in spite of the Israeli blockade. I like this version better!

How exactly do you work out this is an act of piracy? All countries set borders beyond which shipping of any sort is forbidden without permission and if ships go into those forbidden waters then that country has the right to fire on and even sink that boat. Israel is in the middle of a war with the palestinians, just because its not tank v tank & F16 v F16 doesn't make it any less of a war and so Israels military has legally set a blockade. This is not piracy. The palestinians are not being starved. UNRWA & the international community provide food aid and Israel lets it in so although they may not have the same luxuries as they do during peace time they are not all dying of starvation. What is being blocked is good and services out of fear they may be used by terrorists. Recently Israel allowed some concrete into Gaza to rebuild after Cast Lead but the concrete was taken by Hamas to be used to line tunnels. The people keeping the food from Gazans is not Israel its Hamas who hijack food convoys and then take the stuff and sell it on the black market. These fishermen know where the boundries of the blockade were and warning shots were fired so its their own fault if they chose to sail beyond the waters they are permitted to sail in and ignored the warnings.

14. Look at the Photos!
Steve Slutsky ,   Wi. US.   (08.31.09)
Why no one has mentioned the photos is amazing. One photo shows a LARGE fishing trawler that is obviously burned and has two Pal 'rescuers' onboard no doubt telling the cameraman and reporter that there were also woman, grandmothers and babies on board. The other photo which says" Fishermen in Gaza Monday" is no doubt, a effort to make some think that these are the 'fisherman' being attacked and not the large 'Trawler' type vessel above it. The larger vessel could carry many tons of 'fish' or um let's say.... weapons on board?
