1. He's lying, the state CAN prevent kidnappings
Rami   (09.01.09)
By winning wars and killing the enemy in numbers sufficient to force their unconditional surrender. Unfortunately, Israel's will to win is very weak right now, Israel lost two wars in succession - for no reason, except weak clownish bad leaders.
2. Stop Visitors to Palestinian prisoners
dan ,   titusville, FL   (09.01.09)
Until Shait is free and on Israeli land, no Palestinian in any Israeli lockup anywhere should be allowed a visitor, letters or any sort of communication. They should only be given the very basic things to survive and nothing else. No TV, Radio, Exercise, access to a Koran or Kosher food... NOTHING!!!
3. When a country has a draft....
Safta ,   Israel   (09.01.09)
The government has the obligation to bring home every soldier. Not to do so is a failure on the part of the government. Bring Gilad home NOW!
4. barak
av ,   london.uk   (09.01.09)
its the firts time in my opinion that Barak said the right think .
5. Of course it shouldn't be at any price!
Chaya ,   Bat Yam   (09.01.09)
6. Sure this is not Europe, we can plunder, steal, and colonize
Nour ,   Palestine   (09.01.09)
7. Serious questions that must be addressed before exchanges...
Ron B. ,   Lod   (09.01.09)
Serious questions that must be addressed before exchanges of prisoners are considered. The prisoner exchanges harms Israeli deterrence, creates an appalling precedent that encourages further kidnappings, increases the possibility that our captured soldiers will be mistreated or even murdered in custody, and rewards imprisoned terrorists by releasing them early to claim new victims. While the return of the soldiers, regardless of their condition, fulfills an important central value of Israeli society – that the State of Israel will do its utmost to recover soldiers behind enemy lines – nonetheless, it poses serious questions that must be addressed before such exchanges are considered in the future. 8. Proof that Barak is no Jew
Debbie ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (09.01.09)
He's one of the Erev Rav who seek only to demoralize us and ultimately destroy us as a people. The first Jew, Avraham Avinu, did not "blink" when his nephew Lot was kidnapped. He gathered a force and went to war and rescued him. THAT is what a Jewish leader would do, not these namby-pamby weaklings without male accoutrements. The Jewish people should not have to grin and bear it. Gilad is right next door. The people is right to feel that we should be able to get him back! However, it's true that if Barak were to be the one running the op, he'd be better waiting where he is til someone more proficient takes over. Like all the other poliiticans, Barak is a big loser; a very little man in my eyes, and the "man" part is questionable, too.
9. The problem with the arabs and there leader
Mel ,   Zichron, ISRAEL   (09.01.09)
Nour, all your problems you have brought and are bringing on yourselves if YOU would go according to the Europeans you would have had a state long ago but as you go according to your transalation of the Koran you have only the situation that you are in now. You are the only people that have let refugees stay refugees on purpose for almost 60 years for political reasons which I blame completely on the Arab leaders together with the UN.
10. #6: Yes, Nour, you arabs do it all the time
emanon ,   USA   (09.01.09)
11. Nour # 6 is correct
Ibitzin ,   US   (09.01.09)
we Arabs can plunder, steal, and colonize
12. Barak and any price
(09.01.09)
Barak is well known for his willingness to sacrifice soldiers. Barak was responsible for the Sultan Yakoub battle where Baumel, Katz and Feldman were captured along with another 18 dead. Barak failed to aid the wounded in Tzeelim disaster. Barak allowed Madhat Yussuf to die. He hasn't changed
13. To Nour, the fanatic (non-)thinker
Yaniv ,   Israel   (09.01.09)
2% living in the Middle East are Jews, but we only have 0.3% of the land. How do you translate this FACT to colonization, while you Arabs left Arabia to colonize parts of Africa and the Levant? Did you ever take a look in the mirror before you start to point the finger at others? Oh I forgot, you Arabs don't exercize much self-criticism, which is why you are behind in humanitarian and technological development.
14. The R a Million ways 2 get S home without stupidity &Sayeret
Alan ,   SA   (09.01.09)
15. Barak cares NOT for a tortured, kidnapped soldier
marlene ,   Philadelphia, USA   (09.01.09)
WRONG AGAIN - as usual. This man should have been retired a long time ago. Shame on his selfish, evil heart. He SHOULD be saying "Shalit at ALL costs".
16. What is a person worth?
dave ,   uk   (09.01.09)
17. Don't forget, it was the arabs in Africa that kidnapped
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (09.01.09)
black natives, who were NOT arabs, and sold them into slavery. The arabs have no base of ethics, no base of morals, they believe that their "releigious" cult gives them the right to lie, cheat, steal and kidnap.
18. #8 - Debbie, But the real question is...
Joe ,   Ramat Gan   (09.01.09)
... would Avraham Avinu have willingly sent Yishmael and Yitzhak to their deaths to secure the release of Lot? It is an old Jewish practice not to pay a ransom for a captive that exceeds the price of the captive if he/she were to be sold as a slave. This practice was enacted to deny any benefit that could possibly be gained by kidnapping. As cruel as it sounds, there are hundreds of thousands of Gilad Shalits serving in the Tzahal- who has the stones to lobby on behalf of them?
19. Barak is being realistic
dona   (09.01.09)
Can anyone of you ensure no one is killed or kidnapped????? Can anyone ensure that you do not die tomorrow. Come on, however much we want things to be so , there is no assurance. What if is a big IF. Being a mother of a combat soldier and knowing what he thinks on this issue, I must agree with Barak. As a mother I would want to do all in my power but at any price - who will pay the price and will it cause more suffering and death? The State will do it's upmost and best but that is not a guarantee of life. We do not live in Utopia.
20. Lots of BS
Jennie ,   US   (09.02.09)
All those who agree with barak are wrong, to say the least, especially dona. You forget the cicumstances of Shalit's kidnapping. He was captured on our soil in a deliberate action of the terror groups...In all Israeli wars and actions thru history, IDF had never left a soldier behind-alive or dead...It is shocking, that Barak and the PM had decided to let Shalit perish in captivity, rather then impliment a few easy sanctions to the whole Gaza region, until Gilad is released. He could have been home a long time ago, if not for those cowards in the government and the silence of Israeli people who let it happen...Today Shalit and tomorrow it will be a given situation when the lives of our murderers are valued more, then lives of our people & those who defend us...It is the bigggest disgrace for Israel in the history.
21. To # 6
Jennie ,   US   (09.02.09)
Nore ; Your ignorance to basic history 101 is pathetic, to say the least. Every European country has colonized lands in foreign countries all over the world..Many, such as UK, France & Spain still keeping them...But the plunder as you had called it of stealing, murdering and terrorizing are all compliments of your own so-called people....Kapish?
