While I agree that it is possible for Obama to cut aid and try put sanctions in place, I think that there is no way that America will take military action to force the creation of a Palestinian state. Firstly, Israel would not simply sit there and take it if America invades its territory. Israel would fight back and it would be a long and bloody war. The IDF is not like the Iraqi military, or Al-Qaeda, or the Taliban. The IDF is a professional, organised military, with an air force and nuclear capability. If America invaded Israel, the Americans might be able to win, but the cost (human and $) would be massive. That said, such a scenario is unlikely. America simply doesn't have enough soldiers to invade a country like Israel. Even with the pullout from Iraq, America's military is going to be stretched to the limit in Afghanistan, and possibly Pakistan in the future. A successful invasion of Israel would require hundreds of thousands of troops, and the US Army and Marines don't have a whole lot of men to spare right now. Furthermore, it is highly unlikely that the US Congress would be willing to approve the funding for an invasion of a close ally, especially when America's financial situation is so dire.

As a supporter of Israel I have no wish to see this senario arise but here goes. Israel imports 90% of its cerals, 75% of its meat and fish, half the pulses and oilseeds.Nearly 100% of its power supply is imported. Its aquifers and water supply infrastructure could be destroyed in minutes from the air or sea. It would take about one month for the populace and a little longer for the military of this great nation to be reduced to greatly weakened condition. We in Britain learned in WWII of the necessity of strong allies. A leason I hope Israel can heed.
