1. Is no one else outraged that these lunatics get our taxes?!?
Gene   (09.09.09)
2. Rabbi Ovadia....the latest...
Yonatan Cox ,   Petach Tikva   (09.09.09)
Frightening how close we are to the same voices in Iran... No responsibility for our comments, no logic in our speeches, condemnation in everything that is the different even to those closest to our hearts. At the end, the knight on the white horse, will prove it right... For G-d's sake!
3. Here we go again...
British Oleh ,   Tel Aviv   (09.09.09)
as humans we never miss an opportunity to point out how wrong someone else is without looking to see how wrong we are in doing so, and the irony of it, I am about to point out how wrong Rabbi Ovadia is in doing that, here we go again...
4. YES :) Shepardic Style I am, Rabbi Ovadia is CORRECT .
benjamin ,   singapore   (09.09.09)
Ashkenazis may follow, welcome :) But I warn you it is not easy, but try at your speed and your best :) benjamin singapore
5. Ayatollah Yusuf has really lost the plot this time
Avi ,   Israel   (09.09.09)
My oh my i think its time he changed his pills hes babbling complete nonsense . So do tell me will this messiach follow the ways of Sh-asS MKs you know like benizri and the other 6 convicted Sh-ass Mks ?
6. Each Jewish community is certain that their traditions are
Roman ,   Lod, Israel   (09.09.09)
truly those to accurately reflect the traditions of the past, of Judea and Halacha as it was then. That Rabbi Ovadia joked about it a little (as it's done quite often, in many religious communities) is no reason to write an article. So he jokingly referred to the matter? *shrug* Each stream is certain that their traditions are the right ones, but each stream (within Orthodox Judaism) also has equal validity on the matter. So yet, we wait for the Moschiach to decide on the matter - and until then, we'll be sure to laugh a bit about it. As for the Halacha on being a cantor or blowing the shofar on Rosh HaShana, Rabbi Ovadia's fairly strict on the matter, and it's nothing remotely new. He quite clearly says that people who send their children to a place where they're likely to lose their faith due to studying in a pure secular environment (and our public schools are just that) is ineligible to represent the public praying in the synagogue before the Almighty. And yet people in the comment section will now laugh, and point, and say how stupid or "Taliban-style" the religious public is. Which was, sadly, the whole point of this article.
7. sad
dan   (09.09.09)
after 2000 years of exile and brilliant scholars from every jewish community in every corner of the world, the jewish state produces this garbage (and other garbage) subsidized by the jewish taxpayers. what a shame.
8. He's right about one thing
Tony ,   New York/Israel   (09.09.09)
Ashkenazi pronunciation is not correct. Sephardi is much more close to the original (real) Hebrew.
9. Rabbi Ovadia is NOT wrong about
Israeli 2   (09.09.09)
the Messiah and the Sephardic tradition...that is a given for sure, but he is wrong about a father sending his kids to secular schools cannot blow the shofar. He is simply not learned in the Torat Hanistar ... otherwise he will never say that.
10. The Love of my Life
(09.09.09)
Without knowing Kaballah, chalk all these rabbis off. Believe me they know nothing. In the Zohar Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai states specifically the requirements for blowing the shofar. This "rabbi" is really poor. A very poor man in knowledge of the Nistar. Chaval.
11. Ashke-phardic ?
Moshe bar Noach ,   canada   (09.09.09)
B"H Hillel said," Do not separate yourself from the community. Do not be sure of yourself until the day you die. Do not condemn your fellow man until you have stood in his place". Avot 2:4 he also said about the Torah," that which is displeasing to you, do not do to your fellow man, the rest is commentary go and learn it ". Shalom Moe
12. When the Messiah comes, Zechariah the Prophet says the first
Rivkah   (09.09.09)
thing he will do after winning the Battle of Armageddon is to judge the nations by how they treated the Jews. That will show which nations are sheep nations and which are goat nations. The laws that will be enforced are the laws given to Moses and also the Beatitudes of Rabbi Yeshua which are rules for the kingdom of God, not during Gentile world rule. No one who makes a lie will be allowed to enter the Holy City of Jerusalem. This is profound because unless leaders go to the Temple once a year to worship the Lord, that nation will get no rain for the year. Since a leader who lies cannot enter the Holy City much less the Temple, the people will have to change leaders to get rain. The Laws of Moses will be enforced immediately and without mercy for offenders. Adulterers and fornicators will be executed and lose their place in the thousand year lifespan of the Millenial Kingdom. Life will be wonderful in some ways with no wars until the end of the Millenium when Satan is released and will deceive the nations in a final rebellion. It will be far tougher compared to Sephardic rules, but a paradise again like the Garden of Eden.
13. Obviously the messiah will rule Ashkenazi style
YBM   (09.09.09)
The tradition of the Ashkenazim is from Eretz Yisrael. The Yerushalmi was our tradition. The rabbanim in Europe asked halachic questions to the rabbanim in Eretz Yisrael- not in Babylonia. The tradition of the Sepharadim is Bavel; the Talmud Bavli, and so on. According to Kol HaTor, Chapter 1, in the name of the Vilna Gaon, in the messianic era, there will be a renewed interest in the Torah of Eretz Yisrael (the Yerushalmi- the tradition of Ashkenaz). Now that all Jews are returning to Eretz Yisrael, obviously, we will return to the Torah of Eretz Yisrael.
14. God-fearing man has to get children first,
observer   (09.09.09)
to sends them to religious schools. He has to get children, or else God will hate the entire population because of him.
15. rabbe yosef and his square cristal ball
ZORRO   (09.09.09)
So a secular jew not eligible to act as a cantor? Blow the rams horn?( can he blow his own?) Sepharadic tradition will rule? --- Did he get all this from the horse's mouth? --- Please Yosef Ovadia, can I have the messiah's FAX # or his e.mail address in order to corroborate your statements? Thank you
16. Only indoctrinated families get rewards
Josh   (09.09.09)
cult talk. "We cannot determine that we were correct " Yes we can. Devarim 4 clarifies all these additions.
17. When M. comes, dear Yossef, we all will be ASHKEFARDI! :)
John ,   Europe   (09.09.09)
18. i thought the messiah was from brooklyn?
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (09.09.09)
i guess if the anointed one can bring sephardim and ashkenizim together, then he really will be the messiah.
19. Rav Ovadiah
Dave ,   Toronto, CANADA.   (09.09.09)
As a not very Orthodox Sephardic guy, I am happy that Rav Ovadiah is sticking up for me.
20. Rabbi Ovadia Yosef : one question
Philippe Delaporte ,   Marseilles France   (09.09.09)
How the hell could you let your country become Sodoma & Gomora while everybody's interest is on the money instead of religion , while everybody is corrupted to the bone. Besides you find time to still divide both communities with your stupid comments. One question therefore are you sure you are the right person to tackle this problem with the Messiah , I am sure you will be holding the donkey's tail when the Messiah will come while the Ashkenaze rabbi will be leading.
21. will the messiah eat Hummus on Pesach?
eddie ,   london UK   (09.09.09)
that is the question... the further east we go, the less adulterated is the Judaism. Sephardim less than Ashkenazim; Yemenites less than sephardim Iranian (Karaites) less than Yemenites. So there is logic to what the good rabbi says :)
22. Mashiach rules according to halacha
Eliyahu ,   Yrushalayim   (09.09.09)
If it is not logical it is not halacha no matter whose mesorah it is. The One that created the universe according to His perfect ways doesn't change. His halacha is perfect. For those of you that haven't thought it out, the creation works according to logic, physics, and mathematics. This is from the Perfect One so what he does is perfect. Let the wise one understand that the basis of halacha is in Tanach and the Beit Din system of Yisrael determines the halacha. The details of the halacha is oral Torah, which is the mishpat of the Beit Din.
23. When the Jewish Messiah comes, even thought sins will be
Rivkah   (09.09.09)
judged and punished. For example, adultery will not just be a crime of the body but of the heart and eyes and soul and mind before a physical offense occurs. The standards of the Millenium will be very high. Judgment of sin will not be delayed as it is now. It will be immediate. People will have to obey the food laws they now mock and that few now obey. God does not change and all the laws people try to and cannot obey will be obeyed in the Millenium Kingdom because the Lord will write His laws on people's hearts to enable them to obey them.
24. G-d forbid the Mosiach listens to these non prophetix...
Josh   (09.09.09)
Det 13.
25. Islam...
Mohammad ,   Al Quds   (09.09.09)
I invite all of the readers to read about Islam, to see how the respect of the prophets without any descrimination, and holy books; Torah, Bible and Quran, and to know what the Messiah (Prophet Issa) will do when resent to earth and who will be the winning people, who beleive of one Allah (God) and Mohammad and all prophets. I repeat, respectfuly, my invitation to all, maybe we will find some answers.
26. 17 John...If we will be Ashkefardi after Messiah comes, does
(09.09.09)
that make us Asskefarti, now?
27. Can't He unite instead of always dividing ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (09.09.09)
Generally it's against the seculars , now he divides [ with a laugh ? ] between Ashkenazi ans Sephardi . And what about an Ashkenazi , as i am, but whose ancestors came some 20 generations ago from Turkey , and were probably coming from Spain . Am i the only TRUE Jew , Ashkenazi with Sephardi roots ?
28. Rivkah - Shut up with your Xian religion
Yitzi ,   Bet Shemesh   (09.09.09)
29. Rivkah #23 cut the crap
Yitzchak ,   Bet Shemesh   (09.09.09)
30. Mashich will rule according to Rambam at first
Yitzchak ,   Bet Shemesh   (09.09.09)
Mashich will rule according to Rambam (IE: the Halacka) at first then establish a New Sanhedrin who will rule for all. This is Torah. Neither Sephardim or Ashkenazim are correct both are products of Galut.
