1. Obama and Bibi
MC ,   UK   (09.13.09)
This is a very good article and says it all in no uncertain terms. The question is, will Bibi live up to what is expected of him? This is very serious for the future of Israel and he cannot fail us. It was said on this site that Bibi reads talkbacks. Bibi you have the future of the whole country and indeed the Jewish people in your hands now. Don't let us down We all want a Happy New Year!
2. will you stop whining Nobama got bigger
ghostq   (09.13.09)
fish to fray, his health program is kinda the main issue he doesn't give a damn about the MA now. his own chair is on the line. hissocialist atitude is extremly hard to handle. he want to put the entire usa on welfair.
3. Does US Public support Obamas policy to Israel?
Alan ,   SA   (09.13.09)
4. Stop building ???
Kazmieras ,   Pittsburgh USA   (09.13.09)
Just who does the country belong to Obama or Israel ,No one should say where or when you can build
5. Get off the dole.
Steve   (09.13.09)
This is a good piece. Only Obama will respond, "So long as the Jews have their collective hand out for American aid, the immoral pressure will continue." Israel must wean herself from US aid and dependency. It will be good of Israel. It will be good for the US.
6. #3
Harold ,   Syracuse, USA   (09.13.09)
The majority of the US public elected President Obama. He did promiss, during his presidential campaign, to solve the Middle East problem from day one after he is elected. I am sure you and many like you heard him.
7. Bibi has already failed
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (09.13.09)
By agreeing to stop Jewish building while allowing Arab building, Bibi has already failed. He has betrayed his voters, weakened Israel's already frail democracy, and removed any motivation for the Arabs to negotiate. Worst, with the Russians now needing defense systems against the latest American missile deployments, Bibi failed to use a golden opportunity to free Israel from its "friendship" with the US.
8. Obama & Bibi
Bruria ,   Haifa   (09.13.09)
I remember when I read Bibi's book, and heard him speak for the first time. I was so convinced he would bring Israel back from the abyss. So far he has been the biggest let-down in years. I pray he will find the back-bone to defend Israel and the Jewish people. We are over-run by xtians stealing our land and souls, foreign workers killing our economy, enemy countries buying our land. Shame on any Israeli leader who allows these horrors to continue. Tell the muslim b.hussein to kiss your @$$.
9. Obama Meddles When it Suits His Agenda
Robert ,   New Jersey, USA   (09.13.09)
He shut up when Russia invaded Georgia. He shut up when Libya gloated at the return of their Lockerbie terrorist. But when Honduras' Supreme Court threw out would-be Chavezista Zelaya, Obama cut off aid and canceled the president and other govt. officials' US visas. He is a selective moralist in foreign policy. If it favors fascism and Marxism, you can be sure Obama will ringingly endorse. If it favors freedom, liberty and security, Obama will threaten. Israel, consider yourself on the RIGHT side of morality when Obama threatens you. Build, build build!
10. I don´t understand the issue of settlements
Shocked ,   Spain   (09.13.09)
Why are you building in palestinian land? You should feel ashamed. The palestinian authority has succeed in keep the order in the west bank but the answer from Israel is building more outposts and make palestinian lifes miserably in the west bank. It´s not because you´re strong you will achieve peace. The peace only will be achieved with justice. You talk about security and ask the other countries if they will tolerate any attack with rockets against their citizens. I ask you, will you tolerate the building of palestinian settlements in the State of Israel in order to meet palestinian birth rate, will you tolerate a military ocupation in the State of Israel, will you tolerate checkpoints and travel permises if you want to travel inside your country?. Your excuse for building in palestinian lands is to meet the "natural growth". What a shame!, If you want peace end the tirany, the peaceful people will outnumber the jihadist ones. The jihadists seeds are planted by the hate and the lack of desire for the life.
11. Anti-Semitism or lack of competence?
Ron B. ,   Lod   (09.13.09)
American administration is soft on butchers that rule Iran and desperately seeks dialogue with them, yet it is giving the only democracy in the Middle East, a hard time. Obama is being hard on Israel and yet doesn’t appear to be cracking down on Palestinians for their terrorism against Israel, let alone their refusal to accept Israel’s right to exist. Would’nt it be fair to say that there is a strain of anti-Semitism in the Obama administration? More at : http://xrl.us/be8ckk
12. The only reason we supported him was that we want a BLACK...
Benjamin ,   singapore   (09.13.09)
Man to lead USA...that is all...we have done everyting possible in NY to revive the American economy...now we pull out...cos OBAMA has forgotten those who put him up there...he has become anti-israeli....Mr George Bush was a better person to speak too. Obama no longer...remembers us.....we should not be dictated by the OBAMAS.....he has no reason to tell Israelis b ehis slave. NO MORE COLONIALISM....The british tried, the Franch tried , the Arabd t ried to subjudicate us. NO TO THE AMERICANS TOO- WE WILL NOT TAKE INSTRUCTION FROM ANYONE IF SUCH NEGTIATON WORKS TO THE DETREMENT OF ISRAELIs. OBAMA PLEASE SHUT YOUR MOUTH.THERE ARE LIMITS TO THE STUPIDITY AND ABSORDNESS ben singapore.
13. Ben I can't believe I am disagreeing with you
YAMALB ,   USA   (09.13.09)
but, I suppose it is inevitable in an imperfect world. The only reason Israel is even independant right now is because of President Obama. The main architect was GWB quartet member and proponent of evangelicalism and proselytizing by the "barrel of a gun". These "settlement expansions" were an inevitable and planned consequence that were designed to be used as a pretext for subjugation and pacification of a rogue nuclear arms wielding non-comformist state and perputuator of carnage and calamity. This is the way the racist Isa/Jesus freaks that control USA articulate their maginings
14. An EFFECTIVE LEGAL challenge to Obama will soon take place
Marcella   (09.13.09)
A group of Israeli lawyers will challenge Obama's demands with documents signed by the USA at the time of the League of Nations Mandate. One of them is a treaty between the US and Great Britain, endorsing Israel's legal rights to its land. By making his demands, Obama is violating this treaty. Following are quotes from Justice Now For Israel, the organization in charge of bringing up this legal challenge: Israel's borders under international law were determined more than twenty years prior to the establishment of the United Nations. The UN adopted the Mandate for Palestine in 1945. These borders remain the legal borders, and they include all of Judea and Samaria (the land the Jordanians called the West Bank in 1948) as well as all of Jerusalem. Despite the many UN resolutions against Israel, no legal action has or can revoke Israel's legal title to the land. The US signed a treaty with Great Britain in 1924. The 1924 Anglo-American Treaty listed the rights of American citizens living in Palestine under the Mandate. Included in that treaty was the text of the Mandate, including the prohibition against ceding Jewish National land and stating the rights of Jewish settlement anywhere in Palestine. Though the treaty itself expired with the Mandate midnight, May 15, 1948, the rights granted by the treaty are still in force. These rights are guaranteed through the treaty. The US Constitution (Article VI Clause 2) calls a treaty the "Supreme Law of the Land." The Constitution authorizes the courts to force the executive officers and legislators to abide by the country's treaties. The President cannot ignore a court ruling. If he would do so, he would be held in contempt of court. He could no longer serve as president.

16. Obama is millitant SOCIALIST in your
Rob ,   Chicago   (09.13.09)
face. He strongly believes that socialism is the future. As Lenin wrote 100 years ago, for revolution workers NEED big crizis: WW I, Russian socialism. WWII: socialism in E. Europe, etc. He is not listener to rev. Write, etc. He is ONE of them.

Harold ,   Syracuse, USA   (09.13.09)
Well said and for your comment I will visit Madrid again and taste the Spanish great Ham.
18. Denial
USSISHKIN ,   Tel Aviv Israel   (09.13.09)
The opposite of course is true. The menace is a right wing government of Israel, quite happy to dispense with democratic values and trample on everyone else's. And the package with which this comes is wrapped in the rhetoric of denial. It begins with pithy little surprisingly predictable Talkbacks from those who detect "socialism" in Obama's "social medicine” program. Then it graduates to those who agree with a former IDF Chief of Staff, now would you believe, a deputy prime minister, who calls Peace Now a virus, is called stupid by a Ynet writer, claims Peace Now slurred him, and then caps it all with the "indisputable right to settle anywhere" statement. And then there's our foreign minister for whom the words "minister" and "foreign" are unknown, but who's bigotry has created the absurdity that as our senior diplomat he is not welcome in most places where it counts for Israel. And still we have writers who call Obama a menace and really promote the denial of reality we commonly practise - the one where there 's no Palestinians, no peace partner, no peace, no 2 state solution, just the miserable status quo we fool ourselves into thinking is indefinite. The unpalatable truth is that we are a menace - mostly to ourselves. Oh yes but we are good at winning prizes for films that wring our hands and beat our breasts at how badly we performed in Lebanon twenty years ago.
19. Obama is very weak right now so take advantage of it
zionist forever   (09.13.09)
Right now Bibi is at his strongest & Obama at his weakest and its time to take advantage of that. 1) Obama has lost alot of political capital at home over healthcare & the economy. His ratings in the polls are dropping like a stone. With all the problems he has right now the last thing he needs to do is get involved in more problems in the Middle East. 2) There are congressional elections in March and the Democrats don't want their boy creating to many problems for Israel and risk the part loosing seats in Congress over it. 3) Bibi is riding high in the polls & Livni is loosing support and Kadima is tearing itself apart and if there was an election now Kadima would loose around 4 seats to Likud. Barak hasn't made any great recoveries either and if an election was held today its expected Labour would loose even more seats to the right. So Bibi has the national mood on the people on his side which is ironically partly to do with Obamas open hostility to Israel and literally bowing down to the muslims. Bibi has been playing hard man at a time when Obama was much stronger and he was much weaker now he has the upper hand he must not squander it. Bibi is a seasoned politician whilst Obama is a just a child who doesn't understand how the world works but he wears a crown so people listen to him.
20. #10 from Spain:
Robert Haymond ,   Ashdod, Israel   (09.13.09)
In fact, it's evident that you have never been to Israel nor the Westbank. For the most part, settlements, which are really dense villages at the top of hills, do not interfere with Arab villages which are also located at hilltops. There is a good deal of land surrounding these villages. So it's not as though Israelites deprive Arabs of land. Second, the construction which does go on provides many Arabs with much needed work both in the Westbank and in Israel proper. As they pay no taxes, they can work more cheaply than Israeli builders and, as a result, deprive Israelis of much needed work as Israelis are required to pay taxes. Finally, why do you seem to believe that Jews residing in the Westbank are an occupying force whereas Arabs (one-fifth the total population of Israel) live legitemately in Israel proper? We know there is a good deal of anti-Israel (and anti-semitic) sentiment in Spain, where you live, in spite of the fact that only a miniscule number of Jews, in comparison to the total population, reside there. Could your blunt criticism of Israel be unconsciously motivated by the Spanish media and the climate of the times in Europe as your understanding of the real situation is so abysmally ignorant?
21. Former assistant professor of history:
Robert Haymond ,   Ashdod, Israel   (09.13.09)
It's great to read an academic's view who doesn't place the blame squarely on the shoulders of Israel and its Zionist activities. Much of the history of Israel is perpetuated by such fellows. For the reader, to view much of what is taking place in academia these days and how Israeli history is perverted by the politically correct socalled left, go to isracampus.org.il; it may be a revelation to some.
22. If he cuts aid, Israel becomes free and Obama is gone!
Sue ,   Los Angeles   (09.13.09)
Moshe Dann is absolutely correct. Obama treads on thin ice if he remains true to his radical leftist agenda and goes ahead to punish Israel by cutting aid. He punished another US ally, Honduras, by cutting millions of dollars to that country. Obama harming Israel would be a great blessing in disguise. The Jews in America would finally open their eyes to see him as Israel's enemy. Donations of money would flood into Israel from Jews and Christians around the world. Israel would be truly independent and no longer America's puppet - a huge setback for Islamic jihad. Fifty percent of Americans already disapprove of Obama and more than that support Israel. If he were to go through with his threatened actions against Israel, he would lose the support of his Democrat Party. Obama would be forced from office by 2012 and perhaps sooner. Hondurans did not cave in to Obama's demands - and neither will we Jews! NEVER AGAIN.
23. All the more reason
Sarah B ,   New York City, USA   (09.13.09)
for Israel to double the size of the settlements in Judea and Samaria. Obama is certainly no friend of Israel, but Israel has plenty of friends in the House of Representatives and in the Senate. If Obama ever again wants to push a budget through, he would do well to stop threatening Israel. Obama is a one-term wonder -- assuming he doesn't get impeached first.
24. Brilliant treatise
Brod ,   USA   (09.13.09)
by Moshe Dann. The government would do well by listening to his advice. Israel must be united, resolute and strong in resisting the Obama AntiSemite train that is crusading Jihadism on Israel. Israel must defend and protect every inch of its liberated biblical and historic homeland of Judea and Samaria from the Islamist-Jihadist usurpers and occupiers. The Land of Israel is GOD-GIVEN and GOD-RESTORED to the Jews as a Fulfillment of GOD"S Covenant to Israel. Read Genesis, Jeremiah, Ezekiel and Amos. No mortals should dare tamper with GOD'S Restoration of Modern Israel in their Ancient Land of Israel.
25. DON'T BE AFRAID OF NOBAMA
Lawrence ,   Safed Israel   (09.13.09)
He is just a chancer who got lucky.
26. assistant professor of History
Michael ,   Haifa   (09.13.09)
I think I can understand why the writer never rose to the more dizziying heights of Academe. His intellectual agenda is one of daft polemics.
27. To: No. 10
Sarah B ,   New York City, USA   (09.13.09)
It is not "Palestinian land." Israel acquired the West Bank while fighting a defensive war. In 1967, Jordan attacked Israel. Israel defeated Jordan. The Second and Third Hague Conventions are very clear that a country which acquires territory while fighting a defensive war has the right to retain and settle that territory. Frankly, the Arabs on the West Bank are very lucky that they have thus far not been deported. The Third Convention seems to imply that Israel would be well within her rights to deport the Arabs. At some point, Israel will grow tired of the terrorism, the constant violent riots and Arab intransigence, and will deport the Arab residents of Judea and Samaria, and then formally annex the territories. Israel has fought six wars and endured sixty-one years of unrelenting terror. Enough is enough.
28. To: No. 17
Sarah B ,   New York City, USA   (09.13.09)
No. 10 IS the great Spanish Ham. He is also long on rhetoric but, alas and alack, short on facts.
29. #27 Sarah
Marcella   (09.13.09)
Hi Sarah, I think you once wrote that you were a lawyer. You might be interested in taking a look at the website I cited on my #14 and 15. Those Israeli lawyers will use international law to challenge Obama and friends.
