1. Of course!
Sarah B ,   New York City, USA   (09.18.09)
Why on earth would the prime minister of the State of Israel deman himself by meeting with an unrepentant terrorist with pretensions (or delusions) of being a head of state of a nation that does not exist? The suggestion of such a meeting taking place is absurd on its face. Heads of state (Netanyahu) do not meet with heads of terrorist organizations (Abbas).
2. Wonderful News!
Ricardo Macher ,   KarneiShomron Israel   (09.18.09)
These are the best news for Israel as a gift for the New Year! So they don't want to talk? OK! Let's go back to zero!!! Let's explain to them loud and clear that no talks mean no concessions whatsoever and full building everywhere. They will call there bluff in less than 2 seconds!!!!
3. By meddling& interfering ,Obama will make peace impossible!
Alan ,   SA   (09.18.09)
Arabs believe they have a winner on their side . So why should they make peace (if they ever intended to ,anyway) if Obama will deliver Israel on a plate to them as they expect
4. Bravo Abbas, stand your grounds, pending...
Nour ,   Palestine   (09.18.09)
Declaration of one-state (Palestine) solution from river to sea. Well done! Why negotiate now and risk anything less than '67 borders? The US and EU are begging to recognize Palestine based on these borders, anyway, so why meet with the Master of Tricks and Deceipt, terrorist Netanyahu? I say to hell with "negotiations" - they brought nothing but 300,000 illegal squatters to Palestine. Ahead we march, to the PALESTINE solution.
5. Why can't Israel stop building?
(09.18.09)
If Israel would just build these new ghettos behind the Green Line, and stop building illegal settlements and exappropriating land, then we could have a 3 way meeting.

You are forgetting one thing. There is absolutely nothing the United States can do with respect to the State of Israel if Israel does not wish to go along. What's Obama going to do? Invade Israel? I don't think so. A bunch of barefoot warlords with ancient weapons kicked US ass in Somalia. Israel is not Somalia.
7. HOW I WISH ISRAELIS & ARABS GO TO OTHER PLANET AND LIVE ...

שמואל ,   ארץ ישראל   (09.18.09)
Can somebody explain why our building is "illegal" and MUST be stopped but we are not even allowed to mention the building that the arabs are doing all over the place, which is many times more than the few buildings we want to build? Why can't we insist that if our building 'prejudices' the negotiations than so does theirs and they must also stop building?
11. Rosh Hashana is starting off with good news
Norman   (09.18.09)
Israel is given to the Jewish People By the Almighty as recorded in the bible that Includes the West Bank Jerusalem and no one has a right to demand otherwise. Not Obama and certtainly not the terrorist Abbas. Obama has to remember what happened to Bush after the Expulsion in Gusg Katif might will Happen to him if he meddles.

Israel acquired the West Bank in 1967 while fighting a defensive war against Jordan. The Hague Second and Third Conventions are very clear that a country who acquires territory while fighting a defensive war is entitled to retain and annex the territory acquired. How can Israel expropriate something that belongs to her? Illogical. The Hague Second and Third Conventions also are very clear and unequivocal that the territory acquired while fighting a defensive war may be settled by the victor (that would be Israel) and the Third Convention implies rather strongly that the vanquished population (that would be the Palestinians) may be deported. Take your three-way meeting and shove it. Israel is tired of extending a hand in friendship, only to have it routinely rebuffed. Sixty-one years of unrelenting terror and six wars ---- all of which Israael won --- is enough. The Palestinians are not interested in peaceful co-existence, they are interested only in the destruction of the State of Israel. Pipe dream, of course, but Palestinians are not known for rational thinking. The Palestinians are the architects of their situation. Cannot fault Israel for stupid Palestinians choices. But you are out of chances, now. Israel is no longer interested, and you will have to leave. Good riddance.
13. #6 - Obama will be around for 3 long years
(09.18.09)
and maybe for 7 more years ,so I am sure that sooner or later Netanyahu will be walking with his tail between his legs !
14. If building not stopped then Israel will stall in talks
Bloodyscot ,   Dallas, USA   (09.18.09)
While building continues Israel can simple stall talks for years until Palentinians are pushed into smaller and smaller areas, then walled off like Gaza. I believe settlements on land taken before 1995 agreement should continue limited building and all illegal outposts destroyed, that would be a fair deal for both sides and get peacetalks started. Israel has already told the US the illegal outposts would be destroyed but has delayed it for years now. The world is quickly turning against Israel and starting peace talks would help to redirect this.

Sarah, that is your interpretation. If it was 100% true, then there would not be "disputed territories". My interpretation is your people (that would be the jews) are tresspassing. If you want me to leave, (why should I-I won't), you can try to carry me-all 200kgs, little lady!

The world has ALWAYS been against Israel, and Israelis are quite used to it. You cannot use it as leverage. Why should Israel be forced into all kinds of pre-conditions? The Arabs have lost six wars. They don't get to set the conditions. After all, did Germany set the terms of surrender in 1945? No. Did Japan? No. Having won all six wars, why should the Arabs be permitted to force terms? There is one pre-condition which Israel would like the Palestinians to set -- that is, each of the charters of the 30-something Palestinian organizations each purporting to be the true representatives of the Palestinian people call for the destruction of the State of Israel and the extermination of the Jewish people. Why should Israel "negotiate" with any organization committed to its destruction? The Palestinians need to repudiate their charter and loudly and publicly acknowledge the right of the State of Israel to exist in its historical homeland, with Jerusalem as its eternal capital. Absent such a declaration, no discussion with any Arab terrorist organization. Simple enough, don't you agree? Then why have the Palestinians consistently refuse to make such a declaration? And why on earth would Israel "negotiate" with any organization committed to its destruction? Israel holds all the trump cards here, dear. And there is nothing the international community can do about it. The Palestinians need to be brought to heel. They are, after all, the vanquished. And the vanquished do not set terms.
17. #16 - yes, Japan and Germany lost...
Erastus CoupeDeVille ,   Ong's Hat, NJ USA   (09.18.09)

20. The Arabs are not motivated by positive national aspirations
ron B. ,   Lod   (09.19.09)
For the Jews, the main point was to establish a sovereign Jewish state. For the Arabs, the main point was, always, to completely oppose any form of Jewish sovereignty in any part of Palestine. The Arabs are not motivated by positive national aspirations. They have no desire to return to a "homeland" and to realize their imaginary "Palestinian" nationality. They simply want to make sure that the Jews are not in Israel. It is not despair caused by loss of what is theirs that motivates them; it is the hope to destroy what belongs to the Jews. The nurturing of this hope is the factor that gave birth to Arab nationalism. More at : http://xrl.us/be2ig9
