1. Abbas forgets that Israel is under new management
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (09.23.09)
Since Abbas is well acquainted with the ethos of the shuk, let me offer this analogy: Abbas goes into a shop and tries to buy a rug. He and the shopkeeper can't agree on a price. Over the weeks, he keeps coming back, driving the price down a bit more each time, but they never settle on a price. The shopkeeper eventually sells the shop. Abbas comes back, again trying to deal, but the price has gone up. "But the old owner had offered it to me for less." The shopkeeper asks why he didn't buy it at that price. "I wanted a better price. You have to do better than him." The shopkeeper mumbles something about Abbas' mother, then demands he "Get out of my shop!" Like that shop, Israel is under new management, and is not bound by a deal that Olmert might have made.
2. OLMERTS PRONISES DONT MEAN MUCH IN ISRAEL
zionist forever   (09.23.09)
Olmerts not in charge anymore now its Bibi & the feeling within the country is right wing and its the Israeli people Bibi must answer to not Abbas or Obama. If Abbas is willing to end this new found sense of defiance he discovered as a result of Obamas arabs can do no wring hurt Israel every chance you get attitude and he agreed to sit down with Bibi & talk without the settlement freeze like he would have done under Bush maybe he will get somewhere. If not then they can always get together for photo ops now and again and not say a word to each other or achieve anything.
3. You lot are so crooked NOONE will sit and talk with you!
lydia ,   Brisbane   (09.23.09)
You are a bunch of land thieves who have used the US to maintain you untenable position in defiance of the Int. Community. Obama is only trying to command the waves of Muslim anger against your mass murder and genocide of the Palestinians whose land you covet. Arafat who died a miserable death rather than take the proffered 90%, Abbas meanwhile can demand no less.
4. What a state the World would be in if we used your stupid
lydia ,   Brisbane   (09.23.09)
analogy to avoid facing our legal responsibility. What you fail to grasp is what's good for the goose is also good for the gander. If Israel can rescind its declared commitments then the Muslims too can rescind any prior agreements made with the West, whenever they too have a change leadership.
5. keeping one's word
mohson   (09.23.09)
Abbas, Fayad is doing a good job economically. Realize that palestinians and jews could be the switzerland of the middle east if you give up struggle. Now talking about one's word-barak and olmert's positions on concessions have been rejected by israelis and are non binding. Olmert was afraid and trying to stay out of jail as he is a cheap crook. Barak is out of his element in politics and national leadership. Here is my position for the talks- 1) we go back to the british mandate and redivide palestine(roman term) and that includes jordan. 2)700,00 jews from arab lands have to be compensated in property, money and loss of citizenship. 3) ancestral and ancient israel homeland are real claims which includes jerusalem and hebron. 4)golan will be kept as israeli territory. 5) israeli arabs who are disloyal to state or wish to move can go to your territory wherever that it is decided. 6) You have to change the leadership in gaza to a normal one. There are the issues that we can discuss in any peace negotiation.Failing that, jordan is palestine and in the next war, all of you will be moved there.
6. 2008 is long past, abbas slept, abbas lost. Next time
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (09.23.09)
wake up and smell the roses. olmert wanted to give away the farm, Bibi doesn't need to give anything away. fartah and hamass never, never, never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity. Thankfully that worked out well for Israel this time.
7. Sauce for the goose
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (09.23.09)
The US claimed that there wasn't an agreement with the US government and when it was produced they claimed it wasn't binding. Whereas Olmert's promise wasn't in writing, nor was it voted on. So kind of like Arab promises - worthless. Now how about fulfilling your obligations from say 1996. 12 years should be more than enough time.
8. Forget futile peace talks and settlement freezes
Bernard Ross ,   St anns bay, jamaica   (09.23.09)
concentrate on defense, security and completing the re-settlement of Israel by it's original people and the expulsion of the arab colonisers in the same way the africans expelled the european colonisers.
9. Sorry, dude!
Heather Czerniak ,   Milwaukee, USA   (09.23.09)
The settlements will continue to be built. Hey pal, look at the size of the West Bank! You and your ilk aren't even using all that land. And if anti-Semitism keeps rearing its ugly head in other countries, there will be an increasing number of Jewish refugees flocking to Israel. They're gonna need the extra room. You know what that means, don't you? So get used to having Jewish neighbors, because they're coming.
10. Chances of Peace.
Ron B. ,   Lod   (09.23.09)
Occupation is not the issue and Palestinian statehood has never been the answer. Only when Arabs demonstrate acceptance of Israel as a Jewish state will negotiations produce peace, not bloodshed. Anyone who can claim that if Israel returns its re-claimed territory and in the process dangerously weakens itself that this will guarantee peace is a dreamer and completely out of touch with reality. The goal of the Arabs is Israel’s destruction and that is why nothing has worked and nothing will work as explained at : http://xrl.us/bmdnh
11. pals need to keep their word for once
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (09.23.09)
before they start asking others to do what they said.
12. Have people forgotten who Abass is?
Jay3 ,   Israel   (09.23.09)
He was Arafats right hand man and one of the masterminds of the Munich massacre! This terrorist in a suit is definitely no moderate! He denies the shoah and will never recognize Israels right to exist! Why does Bibi bother doing business with this creep? Surely that amounts to treason!
