1. The UN is a joke
Steve   (09.25.09)
Once upon a time, people paid attention to the UN. The UN actually once had some power, as hard as it is to believe. That UN is long gone. The current UN has no power, and fails whenever it tries to fix a problem. The UN has failed to stop the Darfur genocide, failed to stop human rights abuses across Africa, Asia and the Islamic world, failed to reach a global agreement on climate change, failed to disarm Hizbullah, and failed to deal with Robert Mugabe. There are many more failures that could be listed if I had more time. Nobody abides by UN resolutions, and the pro-Arab bias is disgusting but not surprising. The UN should be disbanded; there is no point spending money to keep this useless organization running.
2. Not War, Extermination
steve from raleigh   (09.25.09)
The UN doesn't want war, its wants the extermination of the Jews.
3. What the UN wants is a world tax, world rule, a world
Rivkah   (09.25.09)
religion and an economic system that is tantamount to a one world government. Like the Muslims, the Roman Catholics, the Red Chinese, the Russians, the Blacks, the Americans, the Nazis, the E.U., the Arab League, the Council on Foreign Relations, the Bilderbergers, the Club of Rome, the Council of 300and so many others, the UN wants to rule the world. The only successful world ruler will be the Jewish Messiah and His success will be enforced by an army of angels. The story of the tower of Babel, (Babylon), is that God does not want one world rule or government by man since God confused the languages to stop mankind from setting up a one world government. The one world government by God is different from the one world rule by mankind. The UN should be disbanded and nations should go back to being sovereign in themselves.

Israeli high school, you can't expect much from people who never learned to produce a rational thought.
5. Did the Goldstone report admit that Hamas is a terrorist ...
Ron B. ,   Lod   (09.25.09)
Did the Goldstone report admit that Hamas is a terrorist organization? The Goldstone’s report is full of statements of “fact” that defy belief and come without any evidentiary source. The report denies, contrary to numerous contemporary reports in media outlets, without citing any of the evidence, that Hamas fighters dressed in civilian dress, hid in hospital facilities and used ambulances to transport combatants and other military purposes. Last but not least : the Goldstone report never even admits that Hamas is a terrorist organization. Few Israelis or fair-minded individuals will find this mission, its report or its recommendations as having providing accountability or restoring the morality of the United Nations. 6. What the UN wants is irrelevant
Ariel Ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah, Efraim,   (09.25.09)
B"H What the UN wants is irrelevant. If Anav Silverman read his Bible he'd know that the nations and thus the united nations too want Israel dead. What matters therefore is what we, the Jews want. Do we want a clean shaven, American looking and American sounding Israeli prime minister showing Auschwitz maps he got from the Germans to the world or do we want a Jewish looking and Jewish sounding and Jewish thinking diplomatic service to tell the world about G-d and His Kingdom? What is the Jews role in this world? To play the victim's role or to be a priestly nation for G-d? How much lower can we sink?!

And Barak H. Obama wants to be the head.
12. #5 because they're not & never were terrorists!
Edithann ,   USA   (09.25.09)
Goldstone didn't admit Hamas was terrorist because they are not! They are the legal military force fighting occupation. Hamas is a democratically and legitimately elected govt of the Palestinians, who are legitimately fighting an illegal siege of their land...They are Guerrilla Freedom Fighters. They were never terrorists.. TATA. They are a legitimate fighting force...
13. #5 Definitely is a terrorist organisation...
Taipan ,   Australia   (09.25.09)
...whether democratically elected or not. The Hamas charter along with endless announcements and actions confirm that they kill , maim and terrorize innocent people. A "legitimate fighting force" does not do this, unless of course it is just a terrorist organisation after all? There's no need for this behavior either. The demographics within Israel are changing fast in favour or arab domination in a very short space of time. Soon they will run Israel - legitimately. What I find interesting with your perspective is the total ignorance of the disgusting , barbaric behaviour of the Palestinians. Why do you excuse them like that? Civilians on either side are not legitimate targets - but for some its OK if its happening to Jews. Its very clear by your words - you are one of these people. This is where, sensible, reasonable people fail to agree with your views. Its why we dont act enmasse to "correct the injustices" occurring in Israel.
14. Stupid question
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (09.25.09)
The UN voted to partition Israeli lands to make it easier to destroy us. Since then they have done everything possible including violating of international laws to make sure that the Arabs are given the opportunity to finish us off.

16. This article proved Israeli bombed UN facilities knowingly
Tayfun_Turkey ,   Istanbul   (09.25.09)
Silverman asked UN, Does UN want peace or war? That is Silverman is ready to wage war against UN Israel targetted UN facilities both in Gaza and Lebonan and now it is clearly shown that Israeli mentality behind striking UN facilities was not accidental but deliberate then Israel should KEEP BOMBING UN FACILITES because Silverman and many fanatic zionist thinks UN is a party to war and should be bombed
17. Tayfun_Turkey #16 no such thing
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (09.25.09)
First an editorial in a newspaper is not proof of anything at all. Also since there is proof that Hamas used UN facilities to commit war-crimes against Israel. According to the Gevena Convention that makes Hamas responsible for any and all damage. That is real international law. Not the phoney crap that has been spewed.

Brad ,   USA   (09.25.09)
It's not the first time the U.N. stood with Muslim terrorists. It must have been a laugh riot trying to figure out who was going to hide behind who. I hope you are right. I hope Israel did knowingly pound a U.N. facility. I hope they do it again, and God bless them. Look, just because the American public was dumb enough to elect a non- U.S. citizen, Muslim puppet to the White House, doesn't mean we're all stupid. The U.N. has been America's enemy from the beginning, and their butt kissing of Muslims makes them even more of an enemy. The U.N. wants power, money, and control, and if they can get it, using people like you for their useful idiots, they will.
19. Israel speaks of peace but means WAR
Cynic #2   (09.25.09)
It is not the UN that wants war, it is Israel. This is obvious from the impossible pre-conditions Israel puts on peace talks. It always makes it impossible for Palestinians to come to the table even though they are the ones who suffer most and need peace most. Instead, Israel goes on with stealing more Palestinian land and killing Palestinian children. Israel cannot live in peace becuase it will disintegrate internally. Everybody knows that. It is time to undress the wolf from its sheep's clothing.
20. #15 - not enough clues in the world to help this one

Brad ,   USA   (09.25.09)
I really wish you were right. If Israel wanted nothing but to wage war, and take land, Israel would be the size of the entire middle east, and we would've run out of Arab terrorists long ago. Sounds good to me.
22. Goldstone's quote shows why UN lets terror win
William ,   Israel   (09.26.09)
"Goldstone explained in the interview that it is the obligation of the international community to hold sovereign states accountable of alleged human rights violations." So while the UN works to tie the hands of sovereign nations, it clearly admits that it has NO jurisdiction, nor does it want to, over proxy terror groups. So while the UN works hard to lambast Israel, it routinely ignores Hamas, Hizbullah, Al-Qaeda and its affiliates, and any group that is working on its own without, or in the name of, a "homebase" nation. While speaking to a salivating audience in the Arab world looking for Israel's destruction, Goldstone (salivating, himself) underscored the reason the UN is out-dated. The organization continues to use policies from 1949 as if the world has not aged 60 years. Thanks to the UN, tomorrow, the only groups that will rule the Earth are rogue terror groups (and in this case, all Muslim) while sovereign nations beg and barter to avoid extinction knowing that even to lift a finger could cause them to be dragged in the ICC for war crimes. Welcome to Goldstone's "bizarro world"
23. It's very obvious
Kunle_yisau ,   Nigeria   (09.26.09)
Yaakov #17,it shows that you don't read Goldstone reports well.UN facility was bombed, try to be objective!

Mickey ,   Sydney Australia   (09.26.09)
Fortunately. the demographics of Israel are now in favour of the Jews. The Jewish birthrate is growing while that of the Israeli Arabs are shrinking. The demographic issue has also been misrepresented for many years. It was used by Israel to try to increase Jewish immigration by asserting the growing demography of the Arab population.

When was it ever "their" land? Ever? At no time in history was there ever a Hamasland, Palestine (as an independent Arab country) or any other kind of independent Arab nation in what is Gaza. Ever. If you can PROVE otherwise, then do so, but you can't because it never existed.
26. to #23
Michael ,   New York   (09.26.09)
I applaud Israel for bombing UN facilities that were used by Hamas to hide weapons and hide terrorists. Should the opportunity arise in the future, I would applaud Israel for doing it again.
27. Treachery at the UN
Paul Hoffman ,   San Carlos   (09.26.09)
Regarding the Goldstone report, it is time to strike back at the UN, which lets these charades continue and thereby endangers peace. It seems that the UN will continue to be Israel's unsworn enemy. That does not have to be. The bias and bigotry we see there so frequently can be brought to light, and their effectiveness neutralized. Here's how: 1. Recognize that the nations that are inclined to go along with the propaganda outnumber those that are disgusted by it, yet they sit on their hands except to quietly vote NO. These nations are an asset. 2. Find a way to get a group of nations to permit their UN ambassadors to meet together whenever deception, bias and bigotry are used to "further" the objectives of the UN. 3. The purpose of such meetings should be to develop a resolution that would do the following: a) condemn reports such as the Goldstone report; b) move to censure the perpetrators (members of the committee plus those giving false testimony)... all those folks who are responsible for it; c) move to expel those UN employees, committee members and even Ambassadors from the UN on grounds that are found within the UN's own statements of principles and original organizational documents; d) move to reject the report with a statement condemning its bias; and e) move to permit the accused nation equal opportunity to convene its own investigation committee, write its own report, have the report introduced on the floor of the General Assembly, and have the report transmitted to the Security Council for action. What is well-known is that virtually all people act (and elect NOT to act) primarily on the basis of their own self-interest rather than on the basis of facts, logic and humanitarian concerns. This is true not only for committee members, consultants and other employees and colleagues of organizations. It is true of the leaders of cities, states, countries and heads of religious and other organizations. When a person's personal viewpoint comes into conflict with the viewpoints of one's associates, one's superiors or one's political group, the internal conflict, soul-searching and personal ethics within us are usually brushed aside. A rationalization or scheme is found to permit one to quietly cave in to the social, economic and political pressures, and then work collectively within the group to bury the issue. Comfort is thereby assured when the issue is handled in a manner that puts it out of sight as soon as possible. In this way people can be spared from the recriminations that might follow, should their hypocrisy be exposed. The 3-stage recipe I've outlined above will often cut such people off at the pass, and perhaps cause the enabling organization to modify its reprehensible behavior, by exposing it to the light of day-- to world opinion among those who honor truth and facts rather than false charges and adolescent name-calling. By going aggressively on the offensive, we can turn the spotlight 180 degrees, onto their own negligent, devious or malicious behavior. The media will welcome our actions as news, for our attack contains the elements of conflict, which is so much admired by the media's corporate heads. And the more exposure such issues receive, the more likely it is that the reputations of the individuals and nations involved are further undermined. Like most things in life, recipes cannot work if we stay out of the kitchen. There must be continuous involvement of key people (within the UN in this case), and a support team able to go into action immediately, every time, upon the occurrence of such unscrupulous events.

Norm ,   Rehovot, Israel   (09.27.09)
Do you know any history? Every move made by Isreal such as evacutaing Gaza has been greeted by increased violence on the part of the arabs. The arabs constently increase their demands and ignore any promises they make. This was Arafat's policy and it is being followed by Abbas. You should note it is the arab side that is unwilling to start talks,. They demand that they get all their concessions in advance, As was said by Abba Eban, "the arabs never miss an oportunity to miss an oportunity.
30. #5- I guess Osama Bin Laden is also a legal military force
Daniel   (09.27.09)
If we should follow your logic than Osama Bin Laden is also a leader chosen by his people that's fighting occupation - (BTW the Korhan clearly states that the Muslim Lands are the whole world)... So good luck with that...
