Sure it is political. So was the decision to build Ariel in the occupied territories, so was the decision to built the university in Ariel. I found out that it wasn't until the Israeli team got into the finals of the competition that they were then disqualified. The real reason could be that they were getting close to winning, with their fine Israeli minds.
