1. Change that from 'right' to 'riot'
Chaya ,   Bat Yam   (10.05.09)
They feel that it's their 'religious riot.'
2. Who is ungrateful?
Haider ,   Gothenburg, Sweden   (10.05.09)
Why give religious extremists a chance? When jews were persecuted throughout Europe and the christian world most of the last 1.5 millenium, they took refuge in arab muslim countries. Can any sane person deny that?
3. "not all Jews arre smart"
linda   (10.05.09)
We are not smart at all. We should have kicked your "but" long time ago, but we are to nice for this. Very stupid i would even say!
4. "Israeli Arabs"
Ricardo Macher ,   KarneiShomron Israel   (10.05.09)
Are this our neighbours who want to share the land of Israel or are they the enemy? We are making a great mistake, the Knesset must be rid of Tibi and his friends no matter what the Supreme Court says, Democracy goes in 2 ways, till they don't learn that, let them seat aside and watch!
5. Freedom of religion - or really?
Jane ,   London - UK   (10.05.09)
Where does Jerusalem fit into Islam and Muslim history? It is not the place to which they pray, is not once mentioned by name in prayers, and it is connected to no mundane events in Muhammad's life. The city never served as capital of a sovereign Muslim state, and it never became a cultural or scholarly center. Little of political import by Muslims was initiated there. One comparison makes this point most clearly: Jerusalem appears in the Jewish Bible 669 times and Zion (which usually means Jerusalem, sometimes the Land of Israel) 154 times, or 823 times in all. The Christian Bible mentions Jerusalem 154 times and Zion 7 times.
6. Why not quoting his full sentence?!
cmon   (10.05.09)
He said arabs were grateful because the police protected and helped the muslims during the ramadan and now during the jewish holidays they cause problems on purpose.
7. What a Joke
Yaron ,   USA   (10.05.09)
The Arabs SHOULD be grateful that the Israelis are not the same as they as prior to 67 there was no freedom of worship for Jews....and worse yet, not only was there no access for Jews but the Arabs gleefully descrated Jewish holy sites for which I have never seen an apology. To now stand there as though they are respectful folk who deserve reciprocity is the height of hypocracy.
8. Freedom of religion is important and it cuts both ways
A nony mouse   (10.05.09)
So are Tibi and Zahalka advocating allowing Jews who want to pray on the temple mount to do so?
9. angry? truth hurts
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (10.05.09)
if the so-called "religion of peace" would try to live up to its name, 99% of the problems in jerusalem would evaporate in an instant. but some prefer to live in their fantasy land and it angers them when reality tries to impose itself on life in general. silly.
10. mk arab stupid enough to show their hate
stephane ,   tel aviv   (10.05.09)
they are everything they accuse us to be. they are against our jewish identuty and religion, they are primitive fascist in the midst of our democracy, but please let them speak with their filthy mouth, let the poeple of israel see the poison in their heart. then, one day, we the poeple will decide of their faith.
11. So many things false with these Arab leaders its amazing
Jae ,   Lynn US   (10.05.09)
~No accountability ~Inflammatory speech to get riots going ~denial of non Islamic , JEWISH, history it is bordering on the absurd. I dont know of any other ethnic leaders who PROJECT as much as these Arab leaders in the knesset. They are so racist and anti semtic they make the KKK look like softies.
12. so now saying someone's ungratefull is racism?
(10.05.09)
When will it END? next thing you know, calling an arab an arab will be racism. "how dare you call us arabs 'arabs'? racists"
13. Good News!
Billy ,   Burlington, Canada   (10.05.09)
Although I'm a big advocate of freedom of speech & religion, I'd like to look in a positive way to this situation. I can understand, as an outsider, Police Chief Aharon Franco's comments but as a public figure he has to be a little bit more diplomatic & politically correct. On a good note, I like the fact that J'lem's Arabs are considering themselves as Israeli citizens seeking for equality as a minority, which by the way very normal situation & happens in all countries all over the world. Is that a good sign or I'm just a dreamer?
14. Not all jews are smart.
Resistor   (10.05.09)
Just another ignorant, arrogant a-hole in a postion of power. Everytime he goes to the toilet, he gets dumber (because of where his brains are.)
15. Theater of the abusrd= Muslim denial of Jewish history,
Jae ,   Lynn US   (10.05.09)
capital and holiest site in existence. These racist Arab leaders are in the theater of the absurd
16. respect
Barney ,   USA   (10.05.09)
the holiest site for the Jews the Temple mount contains a mosque and where Jews are forbidden to pray. If the Arabs had captured the Temple mount and there was a synagogue there-do you think it would still be standing?
17. You have 22 exclusive Arab states to practice your religion
usa   (10.05.09)
18. Since when has Tibi given a dam about democracy?
zionist forever   (10.05.09)
He belongs in jail as do all the other members of Taal The arabs like to preach democracy when it sounds good for promoting their agenda and at other times democracy is irrelevant only their cause just like in the 22 arab states. I might have angered the arabs but everything Franco said is truth. Truth can hurt but that doesn't make it a lie. The arabs are ungrateful for everything the state provides for them and the freedom of worship they are given. The only reason there are these restrictions on prayer at Temple Mount is because the arabs started throwing stones at the jews praying at the Kotel. They have nobody to blame but themselves, but it would take a miracle for an arab to take responsibility for his actions. If they want to start more riots like 2000 then they will be the ones to suffer when they join their terrorist friends in jail cells. hen there really won't be any prayers.
19. 1920, 1921, 1929, 1936, 1937, 1938, 1939, 1947, 1948 are all
Eitan ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (10.05.09)
years during which the Muslim-Arab community of the Land set out to mass slaughter Jews, systematically. Between the years 1948 and 1967 they didn't have to do it. Jerusalem was "cleansed" of its Jewish residents, expelled by its Arab rulers, as was the Gaza Strip, Judea and Samaria. But then they attempted again: 1987-1991, 1996, 2000 and the list goes on. Thanks God, we have good security forces that protect our civilian population from the blood thirsty Muslim-Arabs - not Christians, not Druze mind you!!! - but they continue to seek more blood shed. Is it not part of the "peace seeking" religious culture? I think it certainly is!
20. Religious freedom
Christian ,   Sweden   (10.05.09)
It's amazing that these people dare to speak about religious freedom considering that they deny Jews and Christians that freedom on the Temple Mount and in Arab/Moslem countries. I say, until the Mount is open for Jews as well as for Christians to visit and to pray there, keep it closed for everyone or better kick out the troublemakers.
21. Term "Israeli-Arab" is an oxymoron.
Jacob ,   Montreal, Canada   (10.05.09)
22. Political Correctness from Palestinians??
Brant ,   Hilton Head USA   (10.05.09)
This is ridiculous. Start a riot. Hurl the stones and then demad the police chief resign because he says you are ungrateful. You ARE ungrateful. Your Jordanian occupiers LOST the Temple Mount. for you but the Jews put it back under the control of your WAQF and simply hoped you'd show at least the same respect to the Jewish sites. But NO. As usual with you, it's all or nothing. Ever wonder why, after 62 years and, despite all your bleating and blaming and murderous killing you still have NOTHING? Look inward, Palestinians, look inward.
23. horrible comments
not your homey   (10.05.09)
and scary.
24. #2 Haider , Gothenburg, Sweden
Jake in Jerusalem ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (10.05.09)
Jews didn't go to Muslim lands because it was nice there, it was RELATIVELY nice there. When the Christians were burning witches at the stake, the Muslims were merely beheading and raping. The Muslim world has NEVER been a nice place, but back when the Christians were terrible, the Muslims were bad, but not so bad. But Swedes who read Aftonbladet don't know about truth or history, so don't worry if you don't understand this.
25. #2 Haidar: Jews safe UNDER Islam if we knew our place
Itzik ,   USA   (10.05.09)
Yes Haidar as long as Jews knew their place as inferiors to Muslims we were "safe" UNDER Islamic rule. Very much like African-Americans were "safe" as long as they "knew their place" under the Jim Crow laws of the Old American South. Islam has it's own set of Jim Crow laws called "Dhimmi" laws. Jews who rebel against these laws - like those uppity Zionst Jews who don't "know their place" - must be put back into "their place" by their "masters." What bothers you and so many Muslims is the same thing that bothers white supremacists: your order imposed on others you deem your inferiors had been overturned.
26. arabs are not born violent, koran teaches them violence.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (10.05.09)
27. Isn't instigating violence also restriction of religion?
William ,   Israel   (10.05.09)
"The Israel Police is hurting the Muslim's freedom of religion and restricting prayer to over the age of 50. God himself did not set such a restriction. Even the occupation authorities must allow the freedom of worship." Freedom of worship IS being given to Muslims....freedom to instigate violence and kill people, that is only allowed by your "allah", not by Israel nor written in any human rights doctrine. Instigating violence, especially through false rumors, is in itself a human rights violation through the damage it causes in society and the resulting violence. The police finding wheelbarrows of rocks on the Temple Mount underscores the necessity of its actions, and if Muslims don't like it, they can resort to non-violent measures - but it's hard to reverse 1400 years of indoctrinated racism and self-righteous supremacy.
28. #2 - Haider - But were Jews free in Arab countries?
William ,   Israel   (10.05.09)
That is the correct question. The answer there is no. They were denied freedom to live, work, worship in Arab countries, were considered a plague by Arabs around them, their testimony was worth less than Arab women, and they were forced to pay a dhimmi tax. Can any sane person deny that? Are you saying that since Arabs were systematically slaughtering Jews as Christians were, then the actions of racism, humiliation and brutality are acceptable?? If yes, then why does the world give Israel such grief when Arabs in Israel are doing much better, have a ton more freedom, and are better educated than those in neighboring countries? It has been proven that an underlying issue wit Israel's non-acceptance is that Israel is a Jewish nation and Muslims have a real problem with Jewish rule. That same racist fear is what pre-empted the 1920, 1929 massacres of Jews for nothing more than a rumor.
29. all well and good until terrorism becomes part of religion
William ,   Israel   (10.05.09)
Oh wait - it is already part of Islam and suicide bombings and killing of children is commended as a blessing by "allah". Wait until the Muslims spin this one to make the act of killing a religious right, then the world liberals won't touch it with a 10 foot pole and Muslims will continue to slaughter innocents stating "it's their right to worship this way".
30. #3 not smart at all cant even spell
