2. They seem to be whiny idiots. They knew the risks
Z   (10.10.09)
They invested their money in tunnels. They clearly knew that Israel might bomb the tunnels. It's not as though someone misled them. I despise Hamas, but where, exactly, is it Hamas's fault if people buy into an investment that they know is very risky? We're not talking about some bizarre derivative here. They knew exactly what they were buying. Unless, of course, Hamas intimidated them into investing....

they know that the tunnel has two ends and they can return from ny point .. but israil tunnel has only one opening they do not want to return . walk and walk .. where is the other end ....
4. It's called a high risk investment for a reason

I guess whatever building you invest in in Gaza you run the risk of it being destroyed because Hamas will use it for military purposes, hospitals, schools, government buildings. But with tunnels, you know exactly what you are getting into, there's no other purpose for those tunnels. So if it gets destroyed, that is the risk of doing business. I'm not even sure if it was here in Israel if Israelis would have the chutzpah to ask for their money back.

Hamas is run by a bunch of Ali Babas. These businessmen should invest in Israel where they would get a better return on their investments. Remember, Jesus saves, but Moses invests !

of the funniest things i have read on ynet. had hamas invested in peaceful productive industry when the Jews left gaza then all the arabs in gaza would have been MUCH better off. instead they chose rockets and again what did hatred repay them with? more misery and no chance of Jews giving up more land for another gaza. Can't the arabs see the pattern? hatred rewarded with more suffering. end of story. anyway the story is hilarious you must admit.

8. Hard to believe hamass would steal from it's own people.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (10.11.09)
My goodness, what is this world coming to when you can't even trust your own terrorist government?
9. Very interesting
Cameron ,   USA   (10.11.09)
Not much sympathy though. Such folk made a truly high risk investment by staking it all on smuggling ventures. They gambled on a very high return, but forgot/discounted the high possibility of a complete loss when smuggling operations get nailed. Stupid not to factor in the abilities of the Israeli intelligence and military wings.
10. LOL

I have seen enough crazy things to last five people in the normal world a lifetime, but this is right off the charts. The Gaza Strip has gotten billions from the entire world, probably more than Mme. Arafat has salted away in the vaults in Paris, and they have done what for the population? Exactly nothing. Build the economy, build the educational system, build the health system? All out of the question. There is no economy, education is limited to the Qur'an and instructions for making bombs, and anyone with a "health issue" can go to either Egypt or Israel. So they invest in smuggling tunnels and cry when they go bankrupt? What did they expect? The tree in the Thousand and One Nights that bears emeralds? The moral of the story is that the Gazans should take two steps back and take a good long look at what Hamas has done for them, and ask themselves if this is what they want from their lives. Oh, silly me, I forgot, they don't want life, they worship death. OK, they're on their way. I hope the tunnels in paradise bring in a better return.

12. "Worse than the Madoff scandal"
William ,   Israel   (09.25.11)
You're right! The Madoff scandal was due to greed. Your scandal is due to racist hatred AND greed. Both got what they deserve.
13. Haha - Monthly dividends of 10%???
William ,   Israel   (09.25.11)
Hell, if that were true, everyone would have been investing in the tunnel business, even Israelis. Dumb asses! Just as greedy and hateful as they were back in 1948 when they willing move away when Arab leaders asked them to make way for Arab armies then return to take Jewish land and wealth. And - the same result occurred! I love it.
14. "When you see how dependent our economy is...to tunnels"
William ,   Israel   (09.25.11)
Yeah, weapons and smuggled car parts are big business. Now for the actual necessities of life and legal business - they use both Israel and Egypt crossings to move products. What is moved through the tunnels? Weapons, drugs, new appliances, large screen TVs, expensive cars, exotic zoo animals, terrorists, and hard currency. That's called a Black Market and is absolutely illegal, as much as Afghanistan's poppy fields used by the Taliban is. And you think either world investors would look twice at you, or give you a State? That's like handing Al-Shabab an ATM card and their own State...which no one would ever do. Next, you'll be asking for Israel to pay the investors.
15. #2 - the argument indirectly implicates Hamas
William ,   Israel   (09.25.11)
Investors said they were led by their local imams who were not only placed by Hamas, but that the policy of looking to Gazans to invest in the tunnels was born from Hamas and the clerics used to disseminate the message. Corruption all around, and one thing in common - Islam.
