1. I dont agree
Raed ,   Nablus   (10.08.09)
Not necessarily to be true this time, the Palestinian lost hopes in their leadership and lost hopes in all groups claiming that they represent the Palestinian question and they don’t have any faith in Arab countries, ordinary Palestinian in the West Bank prefer the rule of Israel over any other authority even they want to be part of Israel, what so called Palestinian state only in the mind of Abu Mazen and other members of PA. Israel must realize that we are in the West Bank looking to be integrated with Israel even part of Israel, I encourage Israeli prime minister to dismantle PA and declare the west bank part of Israel, this is the only option that would bring peace and batter life for all the citizens in the west bank Jews and Arabs
2. Wow, Raed! #1
Chaya ,   Bat Yam   (10.08.09)
How many others are there like you?? How can they be reached?? Are any of them on Facebook?? Are you on Facebook?? I have felt this to be true for years now. So, are you saying that you would be happy to have some kind of autonomy and economic connection with the rest of Israel?? We Israelis would love to be able to visit and shop in places like Nablus again.
3. #1 Nice to see your comments. Big change from some others
Taipan ,   Australia   (10.08.09)
Palestinians would get a lot further ahead in all respects if they had your approach.

Raed ,   Nablus   (10.08.09)
Dear Chaya, I asked every single person I know in my village, Nbalus and at work would you choose Israel or PA or Hamas and 99% answered we choose Israel, I think the Israeli government they know this fact for sure, but the problem with Palestinian groups and individuals who live outside and linked them self with the interest of Syria, Iran and many other countries, unfortunately those groups have the support of Arab media and no one wants to admit that the citizens of the West Bank wants to be with Israel, anyway this our hopes for batter future for our kids. It’s my pleasure to add you to my friend list on the face book just let me know how
5. Author is Right !
Abdel ,   Nablus   (10.08.09)
First, the author is absolutely right in his analysis. No economic development initiatives will fix the problem! They will help for sure in improving the lives of the people here, but the key is separation, Period! you can pour as much money into it as you want, but as long as there are friction points, and as long as our space shrinks, and your space grows (settlements); our water shrinks, and your water increases, as long as we are subject to the whims of your soldiers and military establishment, and you are subject to the whims of our masked men, nothing will change, and It will collapse again in a moment. We have been there before and no one seemed to have learned! What is needed is a negotiated settlement that separates both people behind clear, defined, and stable borders. And police/army forces that keep everyone in check (i.e. no rocket firing, or building illegal outposts)….unfortunately, I don’t think your government wants this at this point as they are in the Land-Grab mode today, and will not agree to the above until it is no longer feasible. As for our government…well, we have so many :), which one? Our political stance is no longer clear –even to me…..but that is not really important in my opinion, because in reality it is all about you….when you decide there will be peace-there will be peace ! You hold all the keys, and our role is merely reactionary, and our leadership does what it is told to do…. As for my fellow Nabulsi friend Raed who posted the comment here, I appreciate the honesty and opinion. The reality Raed is that even if we want that (and we did want that for a long time, and a lot still say that), THEY DON”T WANT THAT!! and our leadership and fellow Palestinians/Arabs abroad don’t want that….look at Chaya’s smart response (autonomy, but no mention of citizenship and rights) Israel does not want that because they will have to give us rights including voting rights and they simply can’t…….. They will have to give us rights to expand our cities, receive more resources, and more freedoms……they are not willing to do that…. The fact is that the trust has been completely eroded, and in fact...Don’t be surprised if they give us all the Israeli -Arabs as part of a final agreement if it ever comes in our lifetimes….they don’t want them either, and truth to be told, Isreali-arabs have a huge identity crises and need to figure out where their priorities are…. I personally am all for peace. I believe that something good can come out of this proximity of cultures and peoples. Cooperation and coexistence can work and they have in the past (before the first intifada, anyone remembers that?) …but at this moment, the pain is too deep and personal. And each day that passes means more friction, annexations, and fear. ……Separation + Equal rights = Peace. Separation + Equal rights + TIME = Peace and cooperation. That is the bottom line in my opinion….otherwise; it will take one simple incident to reverse everything …..and we go back to step one again !!!!

My hope is that gays will be running the world, because then there would be no war. Just a greater emphasis on military apparel.
7. inching toward a one state solution
A realist   (10.08.09)
as a leftist who advocates 2 states for two peoples I think the exchanges here only point to the dangers of not moving quickly to political separation and an independent Palestinian state. A modern democratic state must grant equal rights to all and a Jewish democratic state must do so as well. An arab minority within green line israel can prosper, contribute to the common good and reconcile itself to the Jewish and zionist state if treated with dignity and respect and granted full and equal status as citizens. However within a single state roughly 50-50 Jewish and Arab we would witness conflict, demagoguery and worsefrom both sides. Each community would try and impose their vision on the other, paranoia and racial hatred would flourish and zionism would exist only in its kahanist manifestations. Let the one state solution await the messiah and let realists create two states with respectful neighborly relations.
8. Excuses for bad behaviour are like an anal cavity
Steven Wilson   (10.08.09)
everybody has one. They have no excuse for terrorism. They just make them up with you placating their made up reasons. The good saying goes....It is what it is.... They are just terrorists. There doesn't have to be a reason for their actions or the following of religious anarchy.

10. Christiane Amanpour: "Generation Islam"
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (10.08.09)
Interviewed two groups, one in Shomron and one in Gaza if I remember correctly, who had unilaterally decided to reject violence in their struggle for their goals. I asked CNN to rebroadcast or provide the organization names again. I'd like to dialogue with them too. Maybe if they get enough requests they'll shift their emphasis from focusing on the purveyors of violence to focus instead on those who are trying to bring about a peaceful coexistence. They are fellow Semites and our cousins. I'm sure grandfather Avraham would prefer we work out our difficulties peacefully and with a good heart. 11. Deja Vu
Emir   (10.08.09)
Sever is 100% correct. I remember before the 2nd intifada broke out thinking that the peace process cant be stopped and that the Palestinians would not jeopardize all their economic progress. I was wrong. There are many factors at work besides the economic factors.
12. Intifatah provides golden opportunity to drive enemies out.
Chaim ,   Israel   (10.08.09)
When did Israel start to fear our enemies? Must have been around the time of the disastrous Oslo accord, when Israel's government began to pretend our deadly enemies were really our friends. When terror, which was rare and severely punished, became common. Israel was meant to be a strong, gutsy little nation. The nation of the Six Days War and Entebbe. We must break free of the leftist shackles and be that nation. We need not fear another intifatah. It will provide a golden opportunity to drive our enemies from our land. Those Arabs who respect Israel as a Jewish state can stay.
13. Raed & Abdel, what about the Jordanian option?
Darren ,   Oakland, CA   (10.08.09)
It would be much easier for the problem to be solved by Israel and Jordan building on their existing peace agreement and Jordan reclaiming sovereignty over most of the West Bank and reinstating Jordanian citizenship to those now holding PA passports. Jordan has always needed a port on the Mediterranean and Gaza City + a transport corridor to the West Bank will meet this need, in addition to eradicating the Baathist/Ayatollah-ist threats to Hashemite rule represented by a Palestinian state ruled by Fatah and/or Hamas. This will also rule out the problem of a divided Jerusalem serving as the capital of two independent states. Moreover, nobody would have to move. Jewish settlements in the West Bank could either be traded for Wadi Ara in Israel, or Jordan could now be host to a Jewish minority. I'm sure the settlers would rather live under Jordanian rule than PA rule.
14. Logical conclusion
Raphael ,   Netanya   (10.08.09)
If the Palestinians were struggling for their daily pita to feed their large family, they would have no energy left for rioting, shooting, making bombs, and no money to import weapons. The creeping propaganda for one state solution is just another method to undermine the jewish state from within, and contradicts the international law, fundamentally based upon a state for every nation. Multinatinational states do not work, unless there is a melting pot like in US: Soviet Union, Ottoman Empire, Austria-Hungary, Yugoslavia imploded due to the nationalities. So will sooner or later former colonial states, such as Belgium, Sudan, Congo, and most africa countries,

EZ   (10.09.09)
Abdel: I agree with you that partition is the way forward. That was always the way forward. 1 state solution will lead to the end of Jewish nationhood, thus Jews are not interested. It would also likely lead to a Lebanon style failed state that is dominated by outside forces. No one would win. Darren: I think that if Jordan were a thriving, rich, free nation, Palestinians would be interested. As it is, one can hardly blame them for not wanting to turn the clock back to 1967.
16. EZ, But compare Jordan to Fatah and Hamas
Darren ,   Oakland, CA   (10.09.09)
Will an independent Palestinian state ruled by Fatah, Hamas or some coalition between the two be any wealthier or freer than the Hashemite regime? Israel wants the Palestinians out of their hair, so annexing the West Bank and Gaza and granting them citizenship is a non-starter. An international force entering the region with the purpose of dismantling the Jewish state will end up fighting the IDF, and the entire region will be set on fire politically and literally. Fatah is largely perceived as a puppet of Western interests and enjoys little support among Palestinians, and Hamas wants to turn the region into a Sharia state along the lines of Iran or Saudi Arabia. Any militarized Palestinian state created will inevitably go to war with Israel and most likely lose. Then the current situation will be repeated. "Isratine" and the 2-State Solution are both dead in the water solutions to the situation. Building on the relationships with Jordan, Egypt or both is the only practical solution to defuse the ticking time bomb.
17. "Logic", this what one can't expect from people who make up
Eitan ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (10.09.09)
stories and call them "historic narrative", from people who claim a mosque has been standing at Har Habait (temple mount) since time immemorial yet Islam came into the world only after Judaism and Christianity and that took place in the 7th century.
18. perpetuating the 'palestine' myth is futile
David P. ,   Central Coast, USA   (10.10.09)
the gaza withdrawal is a living reminder to Israeli's a cauldron left unattended is still a cauldron, it's incorrigible, unpredictable, erratic and can never allow it stew next door without securing it, security that can never be outsourced, so vital that your lives depend on it

Raed ! You are a smart and practical man,but i hope your wish will never materialize,in the beginning you will be sitizens of Israel, than, given your high birth rate, jews will be sitizens of palestine, the only solution is,2 seperate states for 2 people, for that, you need a strong palestinian leader, which i don't see on the horizon,if such a leader will arise i can assure you,all issues can be resolved.

J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (10.10.09)
Abdel ! You are right ,the issue is not economic development, but a matter of principal,in the beginning of the 20 th century, when many Jews returned to Zion, the Jews were welcomed by many Arabs, expecting development of the country, many Arabs from syria,Egypt, immigrated to than Palestine ,looking for work.At the Balfor declaration,Jews and Arabs sat at the same table,it was the Mufty of Jerusalem the future General of the SS,Amin von Huseini, who opposed any deal with the Jews, claiming ,since the land was conquerd by the Muslims it belongs to the wakf (Islam) no room for compromise with the Jews, the Mufty started an uprising against the British killing more Arabs than Jews, the war years he spent in Berlin as the comander of a Bosnian Muslim SS Division, encouraging Hitler to conquer Palestine,so,the final solution will be enacted with the palestinian Jews too,The Mufti visited Auszcwits (in civilian dress) after the war he moved to Egypt, were he endoctrinated a very loyal disciple, named Yaser Arafat, who adopted the complete philosophy of his teacher ,no compromise with the infidels,Arafat, managed to fool Israel and the world, about his peaceful intentions, his mantra was:the peace of the brave,at the same time he worked hand and hand with Hamas, financing, the blowing up of busses, pitsa shops, discos,It was Ehud Barak who ripped of the mask from his face, when he offered him a land for land deal,Arafat responded by ordering Burghuty,to start the Al aksa intifada,so you see, it is a matter of docterine, not land or prosperity,as long as Muftis, and Maglomaniacs rule over the palestinians, there will be no end to the conflict.
