31. Israel is trying to avoid a trial in the ICC
Bloodyscot ,   Dallas, Texas   (10.18.09)
Much of the Goldstone report is questionable but some of it if true is war crimes and should be punished. The only way to find out if true is to take it to the ICC since Israel refused to investiagte.
32. Stirring letter (#30)
Robert Haymond ,   Ashdod, Israel   (10.18.09)
at a time when all Israeli Jews and friends of Israel need to read and hear what you have written. And quite personally, Dan, I thank you.
33. Rights.
Daniel Francis ,   Berrien Springs   (10.18.09)
Despicable as terrorists are they have rights just like anyone else and those rights should be respected. Furthermore, the fact that they might hide amongst civilians in Gaza doesn't mean that those civillians are expendable because terrorists are among them. THe people of Gaza can't go anywhere. The only impetus they will have to oppose terrorists who live among them is to see Israel as a country they will be respected by. When their lives are expendable, palestinian civillians will conclude that Israeli civillian lives are also expendable. It won't make Israel safer.
34. #33--Daniel: So what
Robert Haymond ,   Ashdod, Israel   (10.18.09)
rights do terrorists have? Spell them out. And do you think Israel, or any nation for that matter, should sacrifice itself for the sake of these socalled innocent citizens whom terrorists hide behind? A few facts: Many socalled innocents are Hamas sympathizers. Why do I say that? Because Gaza residents voted in Hamas to represent its government. Second, At a huge rally of 100,000 citizens of Gaza, predating Operation Cast lead, they enjoyed and cheered on their leaders as well as the actor who played the part of Gilad Shalit who was seen whining in desperation to see his "mommy and daddy". I, as an Israeli, felt humiliated because we appeared to be doing nothing and so felt helpless. Eventually, our gutless government of Barak, Livni and Olmert entered Gaza and the results have been a near cessation of missile launches on southern Israel. so Daniel, while it's kind of nice that you take an interest in mideast affairs, coming to this website from your safe perch in the USA with your moral superiority and moral condemnation just doesn't cut it. I'd suggest you actually study these matters in-depth for about one year before adding your "educational" views to this or any forum on the subject of terrorism and international politics.
35. No you will tried in War Crimes Tribunal &then found guilty!
Tayfun_Turkey   (10.18.09)
When you hindered investigation and prevented UN to investigate details you must have already accepted yourself guilty
36. One point to ponder
observer   (10.18.09)
So you've discovered the Ramban (Nachmanides). Who else supports him? This is a single opinion - no matter how great - amongst many who had plenty of opportunity to agree but kept quiet. Anyone who bases his practice on the opinion of a solitary posek is definitely not orthodox.
37. Dann obfuscation
troppo ,   jerusalem   (10.20.09)
as usual dann trots out the typical right wing propaganda "Article 51 of the UN Charter....is absurd." What about Sri Lanka and Belgrade? "Israel, and Jews are held to a different standard." ICRC/Goldstone use facts supplied by Hamas. This conveniently ignores the work of ISRAELI human rights groups, international Jewish professionals and the Diaspora. The days of impunity are over. Get used to it and join the human race.
38. Goldstone's Report not biased at all
ahyar ,   Indonesia   (10.21.09)
The endorsement of the UN Human Rights Council of the report of South African Justice Richard Goldstone on the war on Gaza, despite American and British criticism, Washington’s repeated objections to the report, Israeli threats, the delays and different interpretations of the report, demonstrates that the world has changed. It shows that those with free conscience have started to be fed up with criminals and their war crimes, particularly those committed by Israel’s rulers against unarmed Palestinians for over sixty years. It also shows that despite Israel’s efforts to prevent leaks of what is happening in Gaza and Palestine in general to the world media, some facts have started to surface; and no human being with a free conscience can tolerate or accept them, even if they are Jewish or friends of Israel. It is remarkable that during the days preceding the vote on the report, Israeli authorities treated the whole world as if it were populated by unarmed Palestinians, warning of the threat to the peace process if the report was accepted. It is as if there were a peace process, and as if the world had not heard the statements made by Netanyahu and Lieberman refusing to stop settlements, rejecting the right of return for Palestinian refugees; as if the world does not see the judaization of Jerusalem, Israeli bulldozers demolishing Palestinian houses and throwing families in the streets, bringing foreign settlers to replace the Palestinians expelled by Israeli oppressive authorities, attack farmers and burn their olive trees. What Israel is trying to do after it has been exposed on the international arena, is either to threaten to “torpedo the peace process”, which is already stalled, or level random accusations of “anti-Semitism”. These accusations are not convincing to anybody any longer; and Israeli officials and officers have, from now on, to take account of international prosecution and accountability before they commit their crimes against civilians. As usual, Israel and Jewish lobbies and their agents in the mass media, parliaments and political bodies start a political, diplomatic and media mobilization whenever it is criticized and whenever reports expose the crimes it is committing against civilians. It imposes a comprehensive media blackout, prevents politicians from criticizing it in public and prevents reporters from accessing the crime scene. This is what happened when Swedish journalist Donald Bostrum published his investigative report about killing Palestinians and cutting out their organs which aimed at initiating international investigations into this decades-old practice which affected the United States itself, where Jewish rabbis were involved in building criminal networks for trafficking human organs. Israel raised a media storm against the journalist and his country, Sweden, prevented him from entering Palestine in order to divert the world public opinion from this horrible crime. Not only that, it also called for prosecuting those who wrote about this crime and tried to uncover it and put an end to it.
