The chief of Staff of the Israeli Navy in 2003 Eliezer Marom was a Chinese from his mother's side. Later he also served in other high positions until ealy this year when he resigned from his post.

They are not Jewish. The article states they are "Chinese descendants of ancient Jewish community." That is why they must go through the conversion process. They have some Jewish ancestors, but they themselves must first convert in order to become Jewish. As for Arabs, probably many of them also have Jewish ancestors. After all, when the horde of Muslim Arabs swept through the land and decimated local populations they often forced many to convert to Islam. That, and Muslim's on-going fondness for forcefully taking the daughters of minority people for their wives, means many Palestinian Arabs probably are of some Jewish descent. If they wish to renounce Islam, convert to Judaism, and embrace the Jewish state as the Chinese are doing then they are welcome to do so.

by killing the man and taking his daughter or a wife he is demonstrating the superiority of his faith. Why do you think they burn down the Jewish synagogues or build the mosques on top of the Jewish temples? As for these Chinese joining the Jewish people, it is great.

They are required to go through conversion because ion Kaifeng they based their Jewish lineage through the father, and not through the mother as practiced in the wider Jewish community. As such they are not recognized under the Law of Return as being Jewish, and must go through formal conversion if they wish to reside in Israel. It also gives them an opportunity to study Judaism and better understand their new home. Shavei Israel isn't the only organization who is helping them, and were assisted by another less known organization called the Association of Kaifeng Jews, which has been operating since 2004, and whose members have been working with the community long before that.

So, Chinese 'Jews' make aliyah and are therefore immediately granted more rights and privileges thjan the Palestinians who have been living on the land for centuries. Yet, Reform and Conservative Jews are not considered to be real 'Jews' by Yishai and many other Israelis. I wonder if the Chinese will receive the same Jewish 'treatment' as the Ethiopians?

It seems that some readers are skeptical about the Jewishness of the Kaifeng Jews. I suggest that you first read up on Kaifeng Jews on the Internet before making racist and / or stupid remarks. Secondly, it does not help to ridicule the Chinese people. China will become the 2nd largest economy in the world by end of this year, and holds the largest foreign exchange reserves in the world. China has become a true superpower. China is also a permanent member of the Security Council. Israel and diaspora Jews need to build up good relations with China, and it certainly does not help by making inappropriate jokes about the Chinese people.
