1. remind me what settlers know about ethics and democracy?
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (10.21.09)
it's ironic that after resisting against government decisions to evacuate land and assassinating a prime minister they are some of the last ones to question others about knowledge of civics and morality.
2. Learn how to win a war.
USA   (10.21.09)
Instead of talking about zero tolerance towards terror, this Barak wanna be talking about radical right. You army got was utterly defeated in Lebanon and in Gaza.
3. LOVE TO HATE
DAVID ,   JUDEA   (10.21.09)
Shamni is the type of Israeli that the world loves to hate. His tenure as a commanding officer was stained by his blatant ultra leftwing political anti religious convictions. Many of his actions were unprofessional and caused friction with tax paying citizens, who deserved IDF protection instead of IDF persecution. While Shamni and his fan club like Ynet slam people who they call radical right elements, he and Ynet are constantly undermining the law and Democratic process. In English it called calling the kettle black. The hope is that Shamni is gone for good, but seeing his track record we might see him back as one of those self loathing defeatist losers in politics. Shamni is one of those people you can say to, thanks for nothing.
4. Maj.-Gen. Shamni
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (10.21.09)
What about extreme leftists and Arabs? Only one group is held to the standard of zero-tolerance? Why? Why didn't you do your job? You need to be removed from the IDF for your conduct.
5. Shamni sounds like a shamn. This idiot uses his farewell
Shamni's hateful ,   Lynn US   (10.21.09)
speech to blast the ones who live by a creed of Torah Destiny and self sacrifice. One need not worry so much about intermarriage, money scams, and various hooliganism in Judea's Jewish population, whereas the rest of Israel and Jewry in general need to learn from them how to live righteously. Good on you my brothers & sisters in Judea & Samaria
6. peace for piece
Goose ,   Israel   (10.21.09)
As long as you are for giving up land and negotiating with an enemy that vows to wipe you off the map then you are okay. G-d forbid you wish to love all of Israel including the settlements which are in Israel!
7. The idiot wants to become a politician
Moshe ,   NY, US   (10.21.09)
So the idiot wants to become a politician and want to appease Peres.
8. Gadi Shamni is a Left-Wing Atheist that injects his politics
YNET -stop censoring ,   Free Speech remember   (10.21.09)
into the army is illegal!
9. GADI SHAMNI LOVES HIS ROLE AS
LAWRENCE RAP ARTISTE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (10.21.09)
Good cop /Bad cop routine.Shamni needs to do teshuva, repent and to go live with his brothers in Judea and Samaria, never mind Washington.By the way Mr.Shamni, that other self-hating Jew Judge Goldstone (Judge Judy) is baying for your blood.BEWARE.
10. No understanding of democracy
TSB ,   Clifton, NJ USA   (10.21.09)
The settlers are right. His statement betrays the fact that he has no understanding of democractic rights. Far rightist are not tolerated but far-leftists are? The proper approach is as follows: all views are tolerated so long as they are expressed peacefully and lawfully. Violence and lawlessness are not tolerated from anyone, no matter his or her political viewpoint. You are arrested for breaking the law, not for your views. That is the approach accepted, at least in theory, here in the U.S. Sometimes it is only honored in the breach, but generally the prinicple is upheld.
11. good for you Maj-gen Shammi
marko ,   tel aviv   (10.21.09)
At least you have the guts to put the far right radicals in there place,
12. putting people in their place
nr ,   los angeles, usa   (10.22.09)
It is unconscionable for a commanding officer to says such things - it is never done in the US. It's completely a sign of unprofessionalism. And I believe #11 that Jews who believe in G-d and His Torah don't need this putz commander to put them anywhere.
13. Shamni
moriahs ,   SACRAMENTO, CA   (10.22.09)
..." he has been named the new military attaché to Washington." That tells me everything I need to know about this man. You don't get a position like this if you like Jews ...
14. wing nut settlers
G ,   Kiryat Shemona   (10.22.09)
We need more Maj-gen Shammi's who have the guts to speak against these bullying settlers. How dare these jerks (especially those that like to shout from there keyboards) speak of Jewish values. Twenty plus years ago I was an IDF soldier guarding these sociopathic ingrates outside there caravan outposts. I still get a sickly feeling thinking about them.
15. Please keep them....
Rachel R ,   USA   (10.22.09)
A large percentage of the crazy settlement element are olim from the USA. If you bother them too much, they may decide to come back, and we don't need that sort of problem these days. It was nice and quiet with them gone. Please don't send them back - even though the worst ones are really American.
16. #1 mike - You need to learn history
Yonatan ,   Yerushalayim   (10.23.09)
The man who assassinated Rabin was from Haifa. Unless you mean the Pan-Arab defintion that ALL of the State of Israel is "occupied territory" and ALL of the cities and towns are settlements, like Tel Aviv, or should I say Sheikh Munis.
17. 16 he shares settlers' ideology
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (10.23.09)
and he is praised by the settlers, one of the few specific jewish ideologies that doesn't unequivocally condemn his actions.
