1. there's a border with egypt
(10.21.09)
why can't they go through egypt???
2. And why is that they should be allowed to cross?
Arthur ,   SF, CA   (10.21.09)
Let them go thru Egypt.
3. where were they
dana rothschild ,   jerusalem, israel   (10.21.09)
in January 2009?
4. gaza students stuck because of hamas terrorism
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (10.21.09)
blame the guilty, not israel.
5. Israeli citizen still stuck in Gaza for over three years
Jacob Blues ,   New York City   (10.21.09)
I'm sure Gilad Shalit would like to also step out of Gaza. Someone go tell HAMAS to let Shalit free or figure out a way to start providing educational services to their own population.
6. They import cars through the tunnels!
Take a tunnel   (10.21.09)
I read they disassemble cars and take them through the tunnels. So this is just another PR trick. They can also ask Mubarak to let them in, all Arabs are like family, right?
7. what about the egypt border?
Josie ,   Israel   (10.21.09)
or go through the tunnels they have dugged?
8. To: Jacob at No. 5
Sarah B ,   New York / Saviyon   (10.22.09)
Nice point! Good bargaining chip, too. These Gazan "scholarship students" can leave, once Gilad Shalit is repatriated. Seems perfectly fair to me.
9. scholarships
mohson   (10.22.09)
Why can't gaza students leave through the egypt border? israel is under no oblgation to provide safe passage since gazans says they want israel destroyed and applaud suicide bombing. Go out through egypt. What is this?if you get rid of hamas and make peace with israel then israel can assist you. This is like goldstone all over again.
10. Egypt Crossing
Iggy   (10.22.09)
Why doesn't Egypt open their border to Gaza. Who stops them and why?
11. Did I read this correctly??
Jeffrey ,   Boston   (10.22.09)
"According the Gesher advocacy group, the students cannot leave the Strip due to the Israeli blockade on Gaza. " Can someone in the editorial division of this web site explain to me how Israel blockades Gaza along the Gaza border with Egypt? Please explain, pleeeeeeeeease!
12. no problem - they can go through egypt
david ,   new york   (10.22.09)
oh, egypt doesn't want them either? why would that be? maybe its the tendency of palestinians to explode?
13. Don't recall the UK allowed German student passage in war
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (10.22.09)
Isn't Gaza still at war with Israel?
14. Stupid, this only pushs them to Hamas and more anger
Bloodyscot ,   Dallas, Texas   (10.22.09)
WHY? these kind of action only help support the Goldstone report in that Israel wanted to punish Gaza as much at stopping the rockets. The world opinion is turning against Israel for actions like this.
15. The Rafah crossing is with Egypt but IDF controlled
Bloodyscot ,   Dallas, Texas   (10.22.09)
These maybe the new leaders of Gaza someday do you want them to join Hamas or learn that there maybe a better way.
16. Denounce Terror - then ask for favors
Rachel ,   Israel   (10.22.09)
These students are no better off than Iranian students. Even if they did oppose the Hamas terror regime in Gaza (most unlikely) they would probably be hunted down, jailed, tortured, and executed, just like the students in Iran. But of course when it is Muslim oppression, that's considered legitimate in the eyes of Western society and the Muslim world.
17. Send kidnapped Gilad Shalit out first!
Free Gilad Shalit ,   Israel   (10.22.09)
18. Nice Work.
Alana ,   Ashkelon   (10.22.09)
You have all officially taken decades of steps in the wrong direction with your grossly stereotypical and benign comments. The fact that there are university students in Gaza who are interested in traveling abroad in order to broaden their education is something we absolutely should appreciate and be happy about. It is these Gazans that Israelis should be interested in getting to know. Hamas are an UNeducated, ignorant-to-th-outside-world breed of terrorists; Gazan university students interested in Europe seem to me to be quite the opposite. It seems best that if you'd prefer to blindly reject all Gazans like the stereotypical Israelis that the rest of the world thinks we are, then you're making a big mistake in your efforts to build a beneficial relationship with the right people.
19. to #5 so true it's time Gilad will go to
ghostq   (10.22.09)
the university but he can't. so let them cry that's the only thing they r good at.
20. Bloodyscot, since Goldstone's report is c**p...
AK   (10.22.09)
it doesn't really matter what Israel does one way or another. Actually, should Israeli military start using Gaza civilians for a target practice, Golstone's report would be unchanged, only under those changed circumstances true. The world opinion, molded by petro-dollar- bought PR and by KGB masters molding little 'progressive' minds, is so anti-Israel that it cannot turn against Israel any further. I am afraid that you have overplayed your hand -- Israel has absolutely nothing to gain by being nicer to Arabs -- Israelis never get any thank you for their humaneness , just more demands and more abuse.
21. Alana -- the top Hamas is a MD, educated, I think
AK   (10.22.09)
I don't care if gazans get education; I care that Shalit returns home alive and well and that children of Sderot don't have to live under constant rocket attacks. And as aside, I don't want those 'students' coming to the US -- another practitioner of the 'religion of peace' was just arrested for trying to bomb Boston shopping mall. Let them get educated in Gaza - Israelis built them an university in Gaza, so they have a place to study.
22. Do they expect Gilad Shalit to go home freely as well...??
An observer ,   Canada   (10.22.09)

Shlomo Kamra   (10.22.09)
Nice work by you Alana. At last, somebody sane and humane from Israel!
24. #21
Shlomo Kamra   (10.22.09)
Israel bombed the universities in Gaza, AK. Israel won't allow teachers into Gaza AK.
