32. To no.13
Israeli   (11.02.09)
Eliezer Ben Yehuda is probably turning in his grave - People like you were not in his dreams of Israel. The real Israeli is the one that contribute to the society here, serve in the army and leads honest life in accordance to the 10 commands. Somehow I am sure that you do not answer to these requirements.
33. I did it all ,my way.
Philip ,   Afula,Israel   (11.02.09)
#32 is without a name,I wonder why.Lets call him Gamaddi, those that undrstand will understand. Obeying the 10 commandments is small money for any good Israeli.Stop running under the bar Pahdani, and get a life .
34. A new Jewish idea?
Chardon Bleu ,   Geneva Switzerland   (11.02.09)
Zionist ideology was such a connection of „ideas that happened to appear at the right time and in the right place and connected to inner feelings and thoughts of the society. Such ideas (…) answer to certain needs of the society, be it emotional, psychological, or spiritual.“ However, the problem with this ideology is that it is in no way „altruistic by nature„, but utterly egotistic and above all, it is based on founding myths distorting the historical truth and completely ignoring the human reality on the ground 2000 or 3000 years later. It cannot but fail, and there will be no replacement for it!

36. sense of purpose
Phepps ,   Netanya   (11.02.09)
In the picture accompanying this article, the pioneer looks at the pioneerette's legs, and he definitely has a sense of purpose... No, seriously, now that Israel's early phase of Zionist state-building has passed, it has become a pluralist democracy and the whole country cannot be organized around some sort of "idea" as the author dreams. Beyond calling it "the Jewish idea," the author doesn't even say what it is. A vaporous article, a time-waster. Nice pic, though.
37. #36 agree 100%
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (11.03.09)
The picture is definitely better than the article.
38. To Yoel Meltzer
Marcella   (11.03.09)
Follow up to my TB #26 Perhaps you'll be interested to highlight the work of Justice Now For Israel on one of your future columns. This organization is not about an overall purpose for the Jews of Israel, but it's laying the ground to SECURE the borders for the land where Jews may one day agree on a purpose, a very laudable goal too. I just found out that this organization has sent a letter to the US Envoy to the Middle East, George Mitchell demanding that the US abide by previous agreements and treaties. I now quote excerpts of their Media Release: The Office for Israeli Constitutional Law (Justice Now for Israel) sent a letter to U.S. Special Middle East Envoy George Mitchell demanding the U.S. representative honor a treaty signed by the United States regarding the recognition of the Jewish Home’s national borders. The letter reminds Mitchell that as a Senator he swore to uphold the U.S. Constitution and the supremacy of treaties as stated in Article VI which calls a treaty the “Supreme Law of the Land,” and that Senators and representatives are “bound by oath or affirmation” to support the Constitution. The treaty in question is the 1924 Anglo-American Convention. In this treaty the United States accepted upon itself the Mandate for Palestine, verbatim. The Mandate includes the borders of the Jewish National Home, which comprise all Israel, Judea, Samaria, the entire city of Jerusalem, and much more. The Mandate, which is an act of international law, states that Jews have the right to settle anywhere within the recognized borders, and prohibits the ceding of any Jewish National territory to a foreign authority. The U.S. envoy was reminded in the letter that any demands on Israel to freeze construction within the Mandated borders or to surrender territory to the Palestinian Authority violates the doctrine of estoppel and is illegal under U.S. law. Estoppel is a legal doctrine that prohibits a party from either taking action by deed or verbally that contradicts a prior agreement. The OFICL will send a similar letter to President Barack Obama in the next couple weeks. The Obama administration will then have thirty days to respond or a class action lawsuit will be filed in the U.S. District court demanding the U.S. Government stop violating the rights granted through this treaty. The United States also adopted the Mandate for Palestine as international law when the Mandate was adopted by the United Nations in 1945. End of quotes.
39. Needed Direction for Israel
Shelley ,   LA - USA   (11.04.09)
The raison d'etre for Israel's existence is to be the prototype for 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF." To advertise this information, to the ewworld, to the tourists and the population of Israel, especially in Jerusalem, have banners and sighns strung all over the thoroughfares and roads of Israel, proclaiming this in all the relevant languages. This would instill pride in the Israeli citizenship, while demonstrating the Torah compliant concept which explains the REAL reason why ISRAEL EXISTS to the entire international community.
40. What about the real threat
Daniel Rey M. ,   Bogota, Colombia, S.   (11.15.09)
No need to worry. All is for the best, in a universe where an awesome order prevails. No matter what a person does or a people do, all situations have a natural outcome, according to one’s assigned lot. If a country or a person is doomed, nothing can be done to avoid it. History furnishes certain hints. For example, there are cultures that seem to be indestructible, namely, the Chinese, the Hindu and the Hebrew ways of life. I’m aware of no other longlasting ones. The Armenians, whom the Romans were acquainted with, are still with us, but they were hopelessly christianized, like the Greeks and so many others. Arabs were muslimized. They now profess a Judaeochristian heresy. Furthermore, Islam is a newcomer and could eventually fade away. The main threat now is global. It is the one that humankind as a whole is facing. It is of a biological nature, and it has to do with overpopulation. Whatever the species involved, nature always deals with this in a harsh way, and it has started. Eventually the mere lack of resources will bring down the numbers drastically. Survivors will either fight over the water and whatever productive land they can find or they will unite in order to avoid extinction. We will have to choose one of these two options in the next few decades.
