1. No, don't renew talks, just state the following, in Arabic:
Eitan ,   Qatrin, Israel   (10.28.09)
I accept Israel's right to be, to exist as the nation-state of the Jewish people. I do so based on UN resolutions as well as the universally accepted right of all peoples to national self-determination and independence, the same basis on which I demand the right of the Palestinian Arab people to national self-determination and independence. State the above and demonstrate your newly founded conviction - assuming it is indeed a conviction - with deeds. I assure you, Mr. Abbas, you will not need to say much afterwards. Your statement will bring about a sea-change of attitude among Jews, within and without our nation-state of Israel. You see, we, Jews, have always been eager to reach an accommodation of peaceful coexistence between Arab and Jew, between Israel and its Arab neighbors, Arabs of Eretz Israel (Land of Israel / Palestine) and otherwise. In order to achieve such an accommodation all parties must accept the right of the other to be, to exist, both individually and collectively. To this day the message that you and your Muslim-Arab followers have conveyed only one message to us: Israel has no right to exist. We recognize the fact that it exist but only as a fact that sooner or later it too will be annihilated. Well, Mr. Abbas, we can't accept this message. Would you?
2. This is the big lie of the Israel/Palestine conflict.
Ron B. ,   Lod   (10.28.09)
The Palestinians have successfully sold the idea that they are resisting an occupation. Israel is the occupier, the Palestinians are resisting, so the problem can be solved by pressuring Israel politically, economically, and militarily. When we examine both Palestinian words and actions, we see that this is really something much different from what it seems. The rhetoric of hatred, the indoctrination of children, the Palestinians’ willingness to use their own people as martyrs for the sake of blackening Israel’s image, the constant threats to destroy Israel and to liberate “all” of Palestine, are all signs that this is no revolutionary movement in the Western mold. This is a jihad in the most traditional and most extreme sense of the word. This is a war for Israel’s extermination. More at : http://xrl.us/berwte
3. A fatal flaw in this plan
Avinoam ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (10.28.09)
Israel may accept. It's a game of chicken that we cannot lose because Israel is actually interested in peace.
4. No such thing as quid-pro-quo, just start the talks
JPS ,   Efrat   (10.28.09)
Waiting for us to completely halt settlement construction is like waiting for the Palestinians to completely stop attacking Israeli civilians. Neither is going to happen anytime soon, so Abbas should stop whining and get back to the negotiating table. It will at least keep up the premise that something is happening, although Abbas has no power and couldn't sign a peace treaty even if he wanted to.
5. "Occupation" in Arabic in this conflict's context, it...
Eitan ,   Eitan, Qatzrin   (10.28.09)
...must be noted, is not Israel's control over any particular parcel of land between the River and the Sea. It is rather ANY Jewish control over ANY parcel of territory ANYWHERE in a region perceived by the Muslim-Arabs as part of the the sphere of Islam. I wonder, isn't this the reason why the Muslim-Arabs are so insistent in their refusal to recognize the principle of Israel's right to be, a subject with which I dealt in my previous post at this thread...?? And, isn't this the core issue of the conflict that must be addressed before all else instead of "borders", "security", water rights", "refugees" and even "Jerusalem"...??
