Iran fights wars by proxy. Their last war of engagement against Iraq was a fiasco. Iran is a large, poorly managed country with limited, finite resources, rampant corruption, public distrust and discontent. The Regime recently reduced gas rations to Iranian drivers for fear they won't have enough gas to fuel planes in the event of an attack. So Iranians are not Arabs. Big deal. That's the least of your problems.

33. The Tiresome "Attack Iran" Monologue .. Why Dont
RJBH ,   Methil   (10.29.09)
you just do it? . I for one would welcome "You Do It" The US under Obama unlikely to help... and I look forward to the Consequences of "You Doing It" just as much.
34. Oh Sarah, the sour shrew routine yet again?
Cameron ,   USA   (10.29.09)
You are starting to come off like the worst kind of looping record. Who are you to sneer at American military performance in light of of Israeli behavior in Gaza & S.Lebanon? Neither I, nor the Arabs, forget the no. of times the " the invincible IDF" has come scuttling back over the Lebanese border at high speed after catching Hezbollah's hand on it's fanny. Unlike the Israeli "Spartans" in Gaza, US forces have been more than willing to deal with Muslim fanatics on the ground, head-on, and house to house, regardless of casualties. We have done this any no. of times instead of the Israeli method of proclaiming victory through heavy civilian dead & wrecked infrastructure by means of aerial & artillery bombardment. You do not fool me or anyone else with that kind of BS bravado and chest-beating emotionalism. You, and great many other spooked Israelis, will be among the first to bolt for the Tel Aviv airport to catch the most immediate flight back to the safety & comfort of NYC when Israel finally moves on Iran. You & other Israelis best wise up, and have a care how you run off at the mouth, or you will lose your last friend in the American people, and be truly alone in the cold world.
35. RJBH in Methil
Mark ,   Lodz, Poland   (10.29.09)
Robert, your existence in Methil is not being questioned or threatened with annihilation....Scotland is not a bee in Ahmajinedad's bonnet...Israel is. He's threatening our right to exist. Your post is from a perspective of hate for Israel and Iran. Jews and Moslems. If 'we do it', with precision bombing there is still the risk of the counter attack that you welcome, carnage will ensue on both sides. Your post is that of a hater

"Neither I, nor the Arabs, forget the no. of times the " the invincible IDF" has come scuttling back over the Lebanese border at high speed after catching Hezbollah's hand on it's fanny." Funnily enough, Cameron, less than a handful of rockets have been fired into Israel by Hizbollah since 2006, with HIzbollah quick to scramble and deny responsibility on each occasion. Is that your idea of a failed operation? It isn't mine. Wish the United States had "failed" as miserably in Afghanistan and Iraq, you know? About nine thousand dead American servicepeople in both theatres. Is that your idea of a job well done? "Unlike the Israeli "Spartans" in Gaza, US forces have been more than willing to deal with Muslim fanatics on the ground, head-on, and house to house, regardless of casualties. " Well, despite tens of thousands dead in the Kosovo NATO bombing raids; despite an equal number of dead in bombing raids in Afghanistan, no one has yet accused the United States of war crimes or crimes against humanity. As we have learned from recent events, Israel does not enjoy a similar luxury. Four hundred dead civilians in a careful operation in Gaza, which included such extraordinary measures as leafletting and loudspeakers warnings prior to an area coming under bombardment, do not a war crime make, and you know that. Israel mobilized five percent of its forces both in Lebanon in 2006 and more recently in Gaza. With care shown towards civilians. Keep in mind that Hamas operatives do not wear uniforms and have the rather ugly predilection of hiding among -- actually, behind -- civilians. "We have done this any no. of times instead of the Israeli method of proclaiming victory through heavy civilian dead & wrecked infrastructure by means of aerial & artillery bombardment. " So how, pray tell, do you account for ten thousands civilian dead -- in Kosovo, in Afghanistan, and not much less than that in Iraq? I guess sheer incompetence is as good an explanation as any -- witness the conflict now having spread to Waziristan in Pakistan -- where the Taliban has now successfully regrouped to very nearly its former strength -- though I suspect you'll come up with other reasons. "You, and great many other spooked Israelis, will be among the first to bolt for the Tel Aviv airport to catch the most immediate flight back to the safety & comfort of NYC when Israel finally moves on Iran." Actually, you have that completely backwards. Historically, expat Israelis have rushed home from their relative comfortable homes in Europe and North America to serve. Moreover, as has also happened in past wars, thousands of volunteers will come to Israel from wherever in the world they live to help on the kibbutzim, moshavim and other industrial interests to replace all the reservists that have been called up. No reason to think that will not happen again, and every reason to think that it will. "Sour shrew routine?" Oh Cameron, how indelicate. I guess the truth hurts you more than you realize or can accept, but let's face it -- Granada and Panama are the only "victories" that the United States can claim since the end of World War II. Ouch.

Not so fast, Asad. The Iran-Iraq war dragged for ten years, and Iran could not defeat a far inferior army. Cost you 500,000 lives trying, and completely demoralized your military forces and depleted Iran's available military armament and available spare parts. Don't be so smug. As far as military forces go, Iran is not that impressive. But thank you for admitting that Iran is a state sponsor of terrorist groups, which puts her in clear violation of international statute and convention. But we knew that already, did we not?

From Dreams of My Father: I never emulate white men and brown men whose fates didn't speak to my own.. It was into my father's image, the black man, son of Africa, that I'd packed all the attributes I sought in myself: the attributes of Martin and Malcolm, DuBois and Mandela. 39. Lets follow your Logic to its Conclusion Mark
RJBH ,   Methil   (10.29.09)
You want to bomb Irans Nuclear power station.. and hopefully their will be no 'Retaliation' .. because you presume that once Iran is Nuclear armed, it is a threat to Israel... While in the meantime Israel as top dog .. dictates Irans energy policy. Does Iran Dictate to Israel? MAD was and is a brilliant way of ensuring peace .. but while Israel alone is nuclear armed, The Zionist state is the threat to peace in the Middle east not Iran. Yes your quite correct, Methil is unlikely to be the target of annihilation but then again Methil Does not claim that the land it is built on, was given to the people of Methil by God. In Fact Mark.. you can come and live here too.. as there are quite a few Poles living in and around Methil. 'Hater'.. Mark, Could I really give a toss how you describe me?

Unfortunately for the Congressman, Obama has lost his balls. There is nothing the latter can do to face the challenges of Iran nuke threat.

Oh, I know all about the USS LIBERTY. Clearly you do not, so I will educate you. The USS LIBERTY was a spy ship that was sent by the US Navy to anchorage just off the coast of Israel during the Six Day War in 1967. The USS LIBERTY was tasked with monitoring Israeli military communications, which they promptly turned around and provided to Jordanian and Syrian military commanders; this while Israel was involved in a serious armed conflict with both countries. That's why Israel blew the USS LIBERTY out of the water, and there isn't a single country on the face of the earth that would not have done likewise. Interfering with Israel's ability to effectively prosecute its military campaign is a big no-no. It was not an error in identification. It was a step taken to prevent the United States from interfering on the side of Syria and Jordan. Got a problem with that? Too bad.

Has it escaped your notice that despite being a nuclear power -- having both weapons AND delivery capacity (the tough part) -- for over thirty years, Israel has never exercised a nuclear option, despite much provocation? Israel is a responsible military power. I remind you that having failed for eight years to find a diplomatic solution to Saddam Hussein's nuclear ambitions, Israel did the West's dirty work and destroyed the reactor. Would have been quite a different Gulf War in 1991 had the Coalition forces been forced to deal with a nuclear Iraq. Think of all those Scots servicemen that did not come home in body bags because of Israel's pre-emptive strike. A little expression of gratitude to Israel from the Coalition countries just might be in order, here. Particularly in light of the fact that there is so much hatred for the West in Arab and Moslem countries. Why the West is sending their young servicemen and women to die for people who cannot stand the West is rather hard to rationalize, but you seem to be doing your level best. Kudos to you for seeing things in precisely the wrongest possible light. Not surprising.

Spitting bile & venom at the US is not the wisest course of action for Israelis, or their state. I know you're feeling spooked and under siege, Sarah, and rightfully so, but I gave you a very straight & honest warning, and you & other Israelis would be exceedingly wise to heed it. You are really starting to sound like a snake in the grass, poisonous as Hell, and there is no value in friendship or alliance with a spiteful snake, or cup of poison. You think on that, Sarah. You think on it very hard. I feel damn bad & lousy saying these things, but enough is enough.

Judeo-Christian America supports Israel and shares Sarah's excellent postings. You do not need to spew your venom on her.

That shortly after WW11 After many Scottish servicemen had lost their lives through -out the war which we fought from 1939 and after they made their contribution to free Mainland Europe and Liberate the camps.. Jewish "Freedomfighter/Terrorists were murdering those same Scots soldiers and diplomats in Palestine. You think up an imaginary senario and call it fact... Fact is Zionist murdered the same soldiers who helped liberated them.

Israel has lived in a state of constant threat since the modern State came into existence. It actually hasn't been a bad thing, because it has had the effect of rallying Israelis, and Jews throughout the world, in common cause. There's an old saw "Two Jews, three opinions," which for the most part is not entirely untrue. However, when it matters, we tend to have remarkable clarity of vision and unity of purpose. Israel succeeded in culling Egypt from the herd; then Jordan. Relations are pretty good with the Arab Emirates, who are even more threatened by Iran and Shi'ite instigation and meddling in the affairs of these oil-rich Sun'ni nations. I'm not a snake in the grass; just a realist. I know that ultimately, Israel stands alone. We're always there to protect and defend Western interests. The reverse, sadly, is not the case, but we can deal with that, too. We have been, for sixty-one years.

Are you suggesting that the UK and the other Allies fought Nazi Germany in order to save Jews and liberate them from the concentration camps? Yeah, right. You are one delusional fool. No one was particularly interested in saving Jews. That ties in rather nicely with Churchill's and Roosevelt's continued refusal to bomb the tracks which were used to transport Jews in cattle cars. They wanted Hitler to have enough time to get the job as nearly finished as possible. So please -- no pious bleating about "saving the Jews." Fully one-third of the Jews in the world were slaughtered in those camps, and no one really gave a damn.

Cameron ,   USA   (10.29.09)
Ah, concepts of "splendid isolation" and a sense of "we can swing it all by ourselves" has led to the downfall of more than one group. "...remarkable clarity of vision and unity of purpose..." hmmm No doubt the Germans & Japanese of the 40s were patting themselves on the back while muttering the same sentiments. Remember, despite the best hustling and finessing, at the end of the day, the Babylonians & Romans still came pouring over the walls. Dangerous to lull yourself into a comfort zone by imagining yourself in an Israel, surrounded by Israelis, of the '49 & '67 stamp. Decades pass, affairs alter, and time has it's effect. Take nothing for granted in this world, Madam.

Hey, I usually dig her diatriabes as well, but Reality, and the hard, cold world occasionally obliges, knucklehead. Too much self-assurance can blind the smug into winding up being "screwed right royally" by Fate & Circumstance. We see it in history, and we see it occur in the real life of right now at times. Just throwing out a big cautionary sign.
51. Fine. Let Israel do it.
Andrew P ,   Alexandria VA   (10.30.09)
Why does the USA have to do this? It is better to let Israel whack em. At least Israel has to use nuclear weapons and therefore will do a much more thourough job.
52. 48.. For Once I agree with you Sarah B
RJBH ,   Methil   (10.30.09)
but the Jews that were saved went on to claim that God gave Palestine to Jews... lol .. Even a 5 year old can see theres something very "Iffy" about that. I refer you to post 39 ... I ve never heard Scottish people say they were given their land by God... we just happen to be born and raised here and so are Scottish regardless of religion. .. a bit like the Palestinians eh!

For Israelis to be unintelligent is almost forgivable. They have been so brainwashed by another nonexistent 'existential' threat that you almost have to feel sorry for them. First the enemy was Egypt, then Jordan, then Russia, then the Palestinians. I'm sure that idf Iran stopped being viewd as such, the Israelis would then feel that Palau or Singapore would be the next one. Their military complex will never allow the Jews to not feel frightened, their budgets might actually be cut. For Americans to push this line, however, is truly unforgivable. Can any American, who has troops in both Afghanistan and Iraq, truly believe that an attack on Iran will not have consequences on OUR troops? Or is their safety completely unimportant to you? Will Iran open up its arsenal to any group which would offer to kill both Israelis and Americans? Would they close the Straits of Hormuz and thereby throw the world into a world wide recession if not depression? Sooner or later, Iran will get a weapon if they want one, and in revenge for any attack upon Iran, which city would you like to lose? New York? Tel Aviv? Haifa? I know the right-wing Christians want to bring on Armageddon but is there anyone who would like to avoid the consequences of this ill-advised, and frankly stupid, line of thinking? The warmongers always think that military solutions are neat and easy but in reality no war ever has the consequencesa predicted at the beginning. But WWIII is not something to be sought.
55. You won't find security through whining & worry, Mikesailor?

You got it all wrong. The fact is shortly after 9/11, Iran's former President Hashemi Rafsanjani told the crowd at Tehran stadium that Israel should be destroyed by nuke. (p.224, "World On Fire" [2004] by Professor Amy Chua). Iran is feverishly working on its nukes. Since then, Iran's current President Ahmedinejad has repeatedly threatened to wipe off Israel in his speeches in Tehran, Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta. And the whole Islamist-Jihadist world applauded. Israel has every right to defend itself against any state that threatens its existence. .

Anyway, thanks for shedding some more light on why you challenge Israel's existence. As a Pict you abhor the 'Israeli Occupation'. Thing is Rob, that we were there first, albeit with a lengthy exile..there's archaeological proof in and on the ground..indeed, maybe G-d was a motivating force back then as He is today for some.. and thence the Balfour Declaration came into being. Difference is we've always wanted peace and they've always attacked us first. Bottom line we're the stronger tribe for now....otherwise...it's our lot!
