1. Jewish Palestinians are in danger of etnic cleansing

2. It Teitel were a Palestinian, he'd be a hero
JPS ,   Efrat   (11.02.09)
The world should note the difference that if Teitel were a Palestinian, we'd all be screaming for his release since all he was doing was exercising his "legitimate right to resist the occupation". Instead, he's under arrest and will sit in jail, like convicted murderer Marwan Barghouti. There is a huge difference between the Israelis and the Palestinians when it comes to the value of life. We arrest the criminals who kill Palestinians. The Palestinians think any Palestinian who kills Jews is a hero. Why the world thinks they deserve their own nation is bizarre.
3. I'm surprized the Shin Bet didn't call for the death penalty
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (11.02.09)
to be imposed only on Jews that they think killed arabs. No trial yet, lets convict him in the press, that is good enough. If the Shin Bet had two weeks to interrogate me, I have no doubt I would confess to killing Nixon, Reagan, Rabin and all of the SS staff guarding Hitler and even Hitler himself. Why they would have me confess that I had secretly stolen a nuclear weapon from Dimona and planted it in the White House Rose Garden. Yes, the Shin Bet could do better, they could rescue Shallit.
4. #3 Shut up already
(11.02.09)
You are living in the US, what do you know about Israel? Make Allyah or shut the f** up!!!!
5. #2 - If Teitel was Palestinian he'd been arrested 12 yrs ago
Kim ,   Melbourne   (11.02.09)
The fact is the reason Teital has got away with the crimes he admitted too, including murdering two Palestinians is because he is Jewish and NOT Palestinian. He admitted murder when he was arrested 12 yrs ago but was let go! Why? Because he was Jewish and because his victims were not important, they were Palestinians after all... If it had been the other way around and a Palestinian had murdered and Israeli jail he would have been in jail in 2 seconds flat! Israeli statistics show that the Israeli govt and its law enforcement agencies are incrediably lax when it comes to address in violence against Palestinian Israelis and the Palestinians living under occupation who are attacked by settlers. Its only now that he has started attacking Jews that the authorities are finally getting around to arresting him!!
6. Ami Ayalon? The J St suck up suggesting someone else should
Truthteller   (11.02.09)
have been more thoughtful and protecti ve of Israel? What a disengenuous bastard. Go see if J Street could have done a better job, you lousy betrayor! You have zero credibility.
7. Kim - what about Palestinian statistics?
JPS ,   Efrat   (11.02.09)
Sorry, Kim. The reality is that Teitel was actually arrested and will stand trial and most like go to jail for a long time. The truth is that the Palestinians NEVER prosecute any Palestinian who murders and Israeli. If you're so concerned about law and order, why are you not questioning the Palestinian blood culture that promotes the murder of Israelis? For decades Palestinians have been killing Israeli citizens, and instead of preventing it, the Palestinians actually promote it as "legitimate resistance to the occupation". However, Kim, go read the Goldstone report. Goldstone is very clear when he says that Palestinians who kill Israeli citizens are carrying out war crimes. You might not like the fact that he got away with it 12 years ago - neither do we Israelis. Your beloved Palestinian, on the other hand, make hero posters of suicide bombers and pay the families reward money for killing as many Israeli citizens as possible. Aren't you going to demand justice? Or do you simply not see that from your comfy armchair way down under in Aussieland?
8. #5 Wrong, Kim.
Roman ,   Lod, Israel   (11.02.09)
He wasn't arrested for crimes he committed 12 years ago because, quite frankly, no one knew he did it. He was briefly arrested in 2000 under suspicion for a different hate crime altogether, of which he was cleared - someone else was the actual perpetrator in that particular case. He then disappeared from the police's radar. This, I think, is where the mistake was made - if he was already marked as a potential nationalist criminal, he should have been investigated further. Unfortunately, he wasn't, and no one back then linked him to the murders in 1997, which meant he was now free to continue his killing and bombing spree. Yes, he managed to evade suspicion and arrest back in 1997. He should have been caught and arrested then - he wasn't, because no one linked him to the events yet. We in *Israel* would have very much liked to see him arrested there and then, so that his spree wouldn't have continued. As for being investigated only when he attacked Jews... he wasn't even arrested over that. He was linked to the events during his interrogations, after being arrested over one simple reason - he slipped! Made a mistake, and got caught in the act of one of his attacks. It was only later that the investigators began connecting the dots. You're seeing bias where no bias exists - we in Israel arrest our murderers and terrorists, put them on trial, imprison them if they're guilty. I'd like to see the day when the same is done to all terrorists and murderers acting against Israelis, but I guess I'll have to wait a long time.
9. 12 years of terror
Bruria   (11.02.09)
We are reaching a judgment before the trial. If he is guilty, rest assured the Israeli courts will come down hard on him. In every society there are crazy people, but one crazy Israeli is not reason to condemn everyone. That being said, if there were less hatred and vitriol towards the Jews of Judea and Samaria, maybe this could have been avoided. Who knows...
10. Memo to Avi Dichter
Brana Lobel ,   Israel   (11.02.09)
How about causing a man to admit to crimes that everyone knows he did not commit? That's what Teitel's lawyer says. I think the Shin Bet is an embarrassment, and so is the police and the court system. They have denied this man a psychiatric evaluation for three weeks. Hasn't anyone in Israel ever heard of due process? Oh, right, silly me, I forgot that the Israelis do not like process. Not even when it allows the truth to unfold, or perhaps even especially not then.
