"Yes, it did withdraw its troops and the settlements, but Israel was still occupying Gaza in the sense that it was controlling its coastal waterways, its airspace, the borders, and Gaza's water and energy usage within the coastal sliver." Oh, so now you wish to change my "withdrew" to your "disengage." Churlish word-twisting doesn't change the fact that Israel is no longer physically present in Gaza. Hamas is responsible for the hell-hole it has become, not Israel. I remind you that Gaza has a border with Egypt, and is free to seek whatever it needs from its Arab brethren there. Oh, wait. They can't, can they? Egypt has hermetically sealed that border, haven't they? Nothing in, nothing out. So blame them, not Israel. Gaza is getting humanitarian supplies from Israel, which is far more than any country would do for a cross-border foe that has lobbed 12,000 missiles into its populated areas and sent loathsome suicide bombers to kill and maim innocent Jews. Gaza is not a country. Its status remains indeterminate, and if Hamas keeps up the tough talk and keeps firing missiles, it is likely never to be a country. Only countries can have territorial waters, so governing maritime convention dictates that Israel controls the waterways. Particularly since the only interest Hamas has in those waterways is as an easy route to acquire weapons. That's no going to happen, and you know it. It is not like Hamas is interested in Gaza's economy -- Hamas' leadership is doing quite well. The welfare of the civilians in Gaza does not interest them in the least, as they have proven time and again. "How can your nation do much governing when its constantly being starved and occupied by the oppressive enemy? No nation can possibly succeed to the highest limit when its civilians are being targeted all the time, when they are starved, malnutrutioned, thirsty. " Now, now, Noor. When Israel withdrew, it left in place working greenhouses and hydroponic farms. Your precious Hamas dynamited them all and built terrorist training centers. So please dispense with your pious bleating about "starvation." Besides, I have seen the photos of the women in Gaza and -- more recently -- the bodybuilders. If you want to see what "starved" looks like, have a look at photographs, easily available on the Internet, of concentration camp survivors. The Widow Rantizi, loudest mouth of them all, tips the scales at very nearly 300 pounds. And most women in Gaza resemble her closely. Some starvation! Moreover, Hamas targeted Israeli civilians for twenty years -- suicide bombings; daily missile barrages. Israel waited a patient eight years before responding to the daily Qassam attacks -- no other country would have waited eight seconds. The severe restrictions on the border crossing are directly attributable to twenty years of suicide bombings, courtesy of your unlovely Hamas. Clearly, the tightened border restrictions have put an end to the suicide bombings. So, Noor -- you cannot fault Israel for protecting its citizens. "But, Gaza is much better under Hamas than Fatah, as the people of Gaza have already conceded to that." Why, of course they have. I'm sure they positively relish being used as human shields. Then again, they didn't seem to mind SELLING their children for use as suicide bombers. Makes me wonder exactly where they are on the evolutionary scale, but that's a subject for another day.

We like complete sentences here. "It's only a matter of time until Israel cleans out Gaza; annexes it; and deports its inhabitants to Egypt (they were, after all, citizens of Egypt when Israel acquired the territory in 1967), and restores Gaza to the potential we saw with Gush Qatif. " See? Complete sentences, dear.

40. How to deal with terrorist strongholds
shuebydoo ,   USA   (11.03.09)
Gaza is a terrorist stronghold and not sovereign territory. If missiles and rockets are fired out of it into a sovereign nation Israel (or any other nation for that matter), those nations can take action to protect its citizens, including the total destruction of that terrorist stronghold. Israel should make this well known to the UN and the rest of the world. Give ample warning. Terrorism strongholds anywhere in the world will not be allowed to go unchecked.

43. #1 - "It won't happen without a good reason"
William ,   Israel   (11.03.09)
You mean, like Israel existing and Jews just breathing? Seems like enough of a "good reason" for the many years of attacks by Hamas against Jewish civilians, including their hardcore charter declaring the death of Israel and its citizens as a goal. Seemed good enough for the Arabs 60 years ago who declared their war against Israel will cause "Jewish blood to run down the street like a river". Racist hatred never needs a good reason, just a good target.
44. #22 - Noor - just means Cast Lead 2 is gearing up
William ,   Israel   (11.03.09)
Boy, if you thought Cast Lead 1 was harsh, wait until the encore. If I were you, I'd rush to the Erez Crossing and protest this by putting my body in the way of IDF tanks. But then again, it might just be cushier to stay at home and foment hatred via the Internet.
