Israel's Navy has been neglected for far too long.
2. Germany will bear responsibility of aggresive use of arms
Tayfun_Turkey ,   Istanbul   (11.03.09)
If Israel attack iran or Palestinians or Lebonanese children Germany will be main responsible from selling such kind of guns to Israel What is happend your high tech and selling drones to Germany?!!!
3. Meko A200 from "Blohm and Voss"
Raya ,   US   (11.03.09)
Meko A200 is built by German shipbuilder "Blohm & Voss". From July 1944 to April 1945 "Blohm & Voss" used inmates of its own concentration subcamp at its shipyard in Hamburg-Steinwerder. The camp was a subcamp to the Neuengamme concentration camp. Now a memorial stands in the former site of the camp and the company keeps paying an undisclosed amount to the Fund for Compensation of Forced Laborers...

are faster. We have enough money here without begging germany. Stop giving money to anti Zionist institutions. No more hara-di yeshivs. No more child allowance to families that never served in the I.D.F. No more welfare money to families of criminals. No more alyah of the elderly. Have each family that did not serve in the I.D.F. pay a defense tax on each family member. We could buy an aircraft carrier in one year.
6. Good 4 Relations & Friendship

Germany will assist in the funding of the vessels because they know that Israel needs it to defend itself from hostile neighbors.

So then this would constitute a form of reparation to the State of Israel. I am the child of concentration camp survivors; I brook no tolerance for what happened during the Nazi era. Dealing with Germany at all is more palatable to me if it is considered part of ongoing restitution to the Jewish people, as best represented by the State of Israel. While I would not own a German car or a Leica camera or Zeiss binoculars myself, I do not have a problem if Germany's excellent technology and superb shipbuilding skills are put to the benefit of Israel.

It's not "bumming" money. Israel could raise the funds privately from Jewish philanthropists, and frequently does for worthy purposes. We are talking about Germany, here, though; Germany has an ongoing obligation of reparations payments to the State of Israel. Post back if you really don't know why; I will tell you.
9. #4 ill answer you

maybe you are not aware of some truths: russia has been furnishing all the arab states with weaponery in billions of dollars. every time we are attacked its with russian weapons. russia gives them the weapons and a few years later erases the debt. and never ever have i heard a russian citizen complain about paying for these weapons. russia payed for the cuban weapons back in the day, and they pay for venezuelean weapons today. soon comrade chavez will send nuclear subs patrolling in waters around the US coast. russian citizens never complained about that too. but germans and americans are always complaining we bum their money. we dont force you to give us any money mister. and we fight the same people you fight. if you dont want to help than dont help. you have already lost georgia (and by that armenia the kurds and the assyrians) and poland and czech rep (and by that all of the eastern europe). soon taiwan and japan will do their math. you think if you renounce us the wolves will back away..? im sure we will see
10. #8: I'm sure the Italians owe you too
Alan ,   Vancouver   (11.03.09)
for kicking your butt 2k ago. You can have them finance your IDF future legal expenses .The whole world owes you since you're the chosen people and your real estate agent gave the land for free .

Weighing in at at 120 meters and 3500 tons, Meko are FRIGATES not CRUISERS. http://www.naval-technology.com/projects/meko What's the difference between a knife and a sword? A Priest and a Rabbi? A frigate and a cruiser? Daily rubbish and diligent reporting? Check your facts or "check fire", Arie. Leave the writing for people who can spend 5 minutes reading the publicly available truth.

from the native Americans and the Inuit! We were here before the arabs illegally settled our Jewish land. Long before mohammad dreamed up islam.
14. Germany's economy benefits as well
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (11.03.09)
European states have been pumping money to stimulate their economies, though not as recklessly as the US. If Germany does subsidize these frigates it not only strengthens Israel (taking some of the defense burden off NATO and the US), but keeps German shipyards open and workers employed.
15. Once again, Israel begging for money
Joseph Blough ,   USA   (11.03.09)
Why should the people of Germany fund the Israeli war machine? Israel should be able to pay its own way in the world by now and not have to resort to begging for welfare from other countries. How Pathetic.
16. #3- Yes but today B&V makes machines to ensure safety of Jew
Alan ,   SA   (11.03.09)
17. Stop begging Germany for money please.
David   (11.03.09)
Most young Germans do not want to have a special relationship with Israel (several polls show that). Begging the Germans for money will only make you look like a weak country that is unable to pay for its own stuff. Like a baby running to his mother to get her to buy more candies.
18. What for? To refight the 1956 Suez War? Stupid waste!
Dr. L. Brnd ,   San Diego   (11.03.09)
Surface warships like the MEKO A200 boats have ZERO value to Israel in the current century. Their entire weapons compliment is to defend ITSELF from aircraft and missileboat attack. Not worth the huge cost and 120 lives placed at risk. IDF needs missile firing subs like India is building, and B52-like long-range bombers with stand-off missiles (just build from used Boeings). MEKO boat takes 3 days to reach an Israeli merchant ship being harrased near Gibralter; a Boeing 737 maritime bomber version gets there in 4 hours with Harpoons and F-15I escort - and doesn't have to worry about Arab subs. Plus, MEKOs are all built in Turkey - is somebody NUTS??
19. #12 Why do you assume I'm not a native?
Alan ,   Vancouver   (11.03.09)
Plus , I guess your argument is this : If Christians did it in Cananda then Jewish can do it to the palestinians.

Sarah B ,   New York / Saviyon   (11.03.09)
Coming from a citizen of a country that stole the land from the natives who lived there, you've got quite a mouth. Too bad you do not have much in the way of intellect or knowledge. For the record, Germany orchestrated and oversaw the extermination of six million Jews. Property was confiscated, businesses were confiscated, homes were confiscated and, of course, lives were taken. That's a debt that can never be repaid, but the reparations that are in force were imposed upon Germany by the Allies who remained in control over conquered Germany well into the 1950s. German governments have never denied their responsibility for the Holocaust, and have never disputed the need to pay reparations to the State of Israel. How many natives were massacred in Canada's mad land grab? What is Canada doing in the way of reparations? Besides herding people into modern-day concentration camps which Canada calls "reservations."
21. To: No. 15
Sarah B ,   New York / Saviyon   (11.03.09)
Amazing the idiots that crawl out of the woodwork .... The people of Germany are paying for the evils of the Holocaust. It is called reparations, and it has been fully-sanctioned and agreed to by every German government since the Allies permitted them self-rule in the 1950s. "Begging for welfare," indeed. Germany has scarcely begun to repay its debt to the Jewish people. You may not feel that way, but then again, you are not the German government, are you?
22. To: No. 17
Sarah B ,   New York / Saviyon   (11.03.09)
It is not "begging." Germany continues to owe reparations to the State of Israel for its crimes against the Jewish people during the Nazi era. And it matters not a whit what young Germans want. They remain accountable for the acts of their forefathers. The directive to pay reparations (essentially, forever) was ordered by the Allies just before they relinquished control of Germany to the Germans in the 1950s. Every German chancellor since Konrad Adenauer has acknowledged the debt without protest. So your opinion does not matter.
23. #13 The British stole it for you , Frensh gave you the bomb
Alan ,   Vancouver   (11.03.09)
and your Americans slaves die for you every day. How can a faith "own" a piece of land . Did your real estate agent take 6% , oh I forgot the chosen people get special rates 0% ? I'm looking for an agent to claim the moon for my new religion .
24. Frigates, not cruisers - as per #11
Daniel Breslauer ,   Jerusalem   (11.03.09)
If these are 'cruisers', then I guess we can call the Jerusalem mountains equivalent to the Himalaya. Like Brian, I am seriously annoyed by the media's ignorance of the most simple and basic military issues. Every surface ship is called a 'cruiser' - this is so silly. Cruisers don't really exist any more in any case The US Navy is already phasing out its Ticos, which were just borderline cases of being destroyers or cruisers (in fact, in the beginning, they were assigned the title of destroyers, which was afterwards changed to that of cruisers due to bureaucratic reasons). The last real cruisers are probably the Russian ones.
25. Interesting comments.
leo ,   usa   (11.04.09)
"bumming money", "begging for money". How many of you ever took out a loan? Were you begging for money? Hey, Americans, Canucks and others, aren't our states borrowing left and right. You better start worrying about size of our debt instead of making stupid rants. And I agree $600B for 2 cruisers looks too inexpensive. Those must be smaller ships.
26. A-200 or A-100 ships?
Marvin Kauffman ,   Mendota Heights, USA   (11.04.09)
I thought Israel was going to build 2 modified MEKO A-100 warships in Haifa under license. Is this potential acquisition of 2 A-200 ships in place of building the 2 A-100 ships or is this in addition to the 2 A-100 ships?
27. The Jewish people are a nation NOT
andy ,   orlando,u.s   (11.04.09)
a faith or religion!. Here you display your ignorance. The Jewish people have inhabited the land of Israel for 3 thousand years. This is called a title of land and does not require a real eatate agent as you suggest.
28. Sarah B. / Reparations
Martin ,   Boise, Idaho   (11.05.09)
Sorry, Sarah, but you're blatantly wrong. "Reparations" means that there's a legal agreement / contractual obligation (be it as part of a peace trety or negotiated afterwards). Germany actually did pay reparations of 3 billion Deutschmarks from 1953-67, as negotiated by Adenauer and Ben-Gurion (amounting to 87.5% of Israel's state income in '56). Those contractual obligations have been fulfilled. Germany became a fully sovereign state in 1989 (not the 1950s) meaning that there's also no obligation to the allies any more. What Germany does today is mostly military assistance for an ally, partly quid-pro-quo, with Germany getting Israeli military drones etc. and economically a foothold in the Israeli market.

Say what you want, but you can't blame them forever. That's like Christians still blaming you for killing their God: by your standards, that's perfectly acceptable. What a load of balderdash. Young people in Germany are starting to become more and more annoyed by the state institutionally shifting the blame on to them for something they didn't do, and having it taught to them in every History, Politics and Geography- it's like the Nazi indoctrination all over again, but with a different message. All that comments like yours serve to do, is to drive them further from you. As for your comments on the stance of the German Chancellery, of course they would admit that, it's a little something called tact and forethought when it comes to international implications, something that Israel's prime minister would do well to learn, I think.
