1. lots of humans
John ,   London, UK   (11.05.09)
As in the film Matrix, there are plenty of humans to exploit. Lots of money to be made.
2. Why is it only Jews?
(11.05.09)
What's with us? And then we wonder why we're victims of Anti-Semitism.
3. Unethical practice
Sarah B ,   New York / Saviyon   (11.05.09)
I have serious reservations about this practice. I think ultimately it is an unethical practice. Then again, I am not so poor that I must resort to selling a kidney to be able to support my family. Neither am I so desperately ill that only a kidney transplant can save me. Somehow, though, I suspect that the donor gets very little of the money that changes hands, while undertaking the greatest risk and giving up the item of greatest value. The recipient will pay any price, and can in all likelihood afford to do so. The organ broker probably claims a huge fee for his "services." That is the part that troubles me the most.

It isn't only Jews. There is no shortage throughout the world of extremely wealthy individuals in dire need of a kidney and extremely poor people with two healthy kidneys. Go to the poorer quarters of Calcutta or Mumbai or Delhi, and you would not believe the number of women who sport that tell-tale scar. Men, too, I suppose, except you can see the scar if someone is wearing a sari, you cannot see it if someone is wearing a tunic. I am told that people in poverty-stricken areas of Africa and Latin America routinely sell kidneys as well, and there is no shortage of buyers who come from pretty much all over the world. The legal process of determining who does and does not get an organ that becomes available is slow. In the United States, it is supposed to be an absolute egalitarian procedure, but in truth it is not. Several years ago, American baseball legend Mickey Mantle received a liver transplant (despite being in the terminal stages of cancer) simply because of who he was. He was certainly not a prime candidate for a liver transplant; his liver disease was the direct result of having been a chronic alcoholic all of his adult life. In theory, that should have put him lower on the list than someone suffering from advanced liver disease that is not rooted in alcohol or other substance abuse. Some years before that, the musician David Crosby (of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young), also a chronic alcoholic and a long-term user of cocaine and heroin, received a liver transplant within a week of being admitted to the hospital. So the system which claims to be completely egalitarian is not. Moreover, can anyone say with absolute certainty that the people who are charged with making these decisions are not capable of being bribed? In sum, it is far from being "only Jews" who engage in such practices. We're just the only ones honest and democratic enough to deal with the issue out in the open. That's a good thing.
5. Here we go again with Hadassah Ein Kerem doctors
(11.05.09)
Is there on end to the atrocities committed in that hospital? Let's not forget that the Starving Doctor and the child that died because of hospital negligence are also from that hospital.
6. an eye for an eye...
Rabbi Yunan Amram ,   Antwerp   (11.05.09)
take their kidneys and donate to charity.

You should have read the article through to the end. Here is the last paragraph: "At this stage, the Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital is not believed to be linked to the affair, although the two suspects were arrested on its premises."
8. is it me or one of them is russian.

just a hunch.
9. What in G-d's name is happening to the Jews of Israel
Al   (11.05.09)
I shudder to think of how low some 'Jews' have fallen. It is breathtaking..it is also terribly sad. We have not outgrown the Ghetto. I fear for Israels welfare...The idea that Israel is on tenderhooks runs shivers down my spine.
