1. The Klausenberger Rav the builder of Sanz and Laniado hospit
m   (11.06.09)
lost all his children, all 11 of them and his wife in the Shoa. He didn't give up, he sustained Judaism in the camp and the Jews who were with him there. He was powerhouse of strength, may his future generations be BLESSED!
2. Rabbis live it up while followers live in poverty
rg ,   Jerusalem   (11.06.09)
How can these leaders get away with throwing such lavish events while their followers live in poverty. Im sure the money would have been better spent providing food, clothes and support for some of the sects followers.

MAZEL TOV! Having lived in Sanz for 3 years while studying at Laniado, I can say that I never saw a Sanz chassid in poverty. After being tortured in the Holocaust (see #1) the Rebbe swore that if he survived he would make sure that Jews were cared for humanely. He opened a hospital where staff never strike (without any support from the health ministry; a nursing school; an orphanage; an old age home, etc.All year round the Rebbe takes care of his chassidim. In secular circles, the guests pay for the wedding with gifts of cash. Here too, it's a joint effort, and the chassidim pitch in.
4. # 2 No worries

National insurance paid for it, indirectly of course.

6. Wow, 10K Guests! That's A BIG Wedding!
Christy ,   Boston, MA   (11.07.09)
Congratulations to the bride and groom, may they both have a happy and long life together! Saw some video, and pictures, taken at this wedding. I'm curious as to why most of the male guests seemed to be seated on bleacher like seats and observing as one would a sporting event? Would these, bleacher seated, guests have gotten anything to eat and drink? -They didn't seem to have any food, nor was food placed near them. The men in the bleacher like seats were singing and dancing and seemed to have a great time, even if they didn't get any food. Only saw one picture of the bride, at a distance. It looked like she had a very beautiful gown on, but I couldn't find any more pictures of her closer up. Can't imagine the total headache planning a wedding for 10,000 guests! I'm sure everyone involved will always remember this wedding.

on our Yiddishkeit. Relax people! Who would you rather give to: our enemies who are ready to cut off your limbs at any opportunity or these folks who are making the Jewish babies and bring the Jews hope?

ABRAHAM ben JACOB ,   CANADA   (11.07.09)
THIS RIGHTEOUS JEW WENT THROUGH HELL, AND STARTED LIFE ALL OVER AGAIN. HE PERFORMED ACTS OF KINDNESS, AND ZEDAKA AND ALSO THE HOSPITAL. I REALLY DID NOT KNOW HOW DEEP THE RESENTMENT IS AGAINST THE RAV, SHOWN BY SOME NEGATIVE POSTS HERE ON YNET. THE WEDDING PROCESSION AS SHOWN HERE BY YNET PHOTOS , IS VERY HEARTWARMING. I THINK IT'S ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL AND FANTASTIC !!

Sagi   (11.07.09)
You are the one who is sick. And might I add that "yiddishkeit" is a sickness in itself. "Israelishkeit" is a much better bet.You have dignity, self esteem and what's more you can look your enemy in the eye and take him on and beat him. Hasidim and all the funny folk from Eastern Europe went to where they were sent, no resistence. This is the tradition you wish to perpetuate ? Not me.

16. 2and 5: Borrowing some horses and a few carts is less expens
Rivkah   (11.07.09)
expensive than renting limosines! Feeding guests carp is about as cheap as you can get considering that most people do not eat carp because it is a bottom feeding fish that is full of toxins and gunk. Fishermen who fish for themselves throw carp back into the water rather than to eat it. Poor Jews eat carp because in a lot of areas they lived in, the better fish was denied them to eat. They got what other people would not eat and got used to it. But it is still a horrible thing to serve wedding guests since it loads them up with garbage the carp ate at the bottom of the lake or sea or river. It is like shrimp that is forbidden by the Bible to eat since it is unhealthy. But, if those who must eat carp also eat cilantro (1/4 cup a day), that will help pull out the toxins from the carp from their bodies. If you don't think Haredim are toxic, smell one in the summertime when they sweat a lot wearing the heavy clothes. PeeYuuu! No offense, but their bodies are toxic with heavy metals and other toxins from cheap eating.

Couldn't the author find a single thing to say about the bride? Her name, her lineage, her education, how she will support this groom in his studies, anything?
20. RE:Sagi #14
Mark ,   U.K   (11.07.09)
Sagi my man, you want to know what real Yiddishkeit is? do you want to know what real looking in to the enemies eyes is? Chassidim were the ones who were dancing in the gas chambers, real Jews were the ones that got burned at the stake rather than giving up believing. Sagi, What do you believe in? How much would you give to keep believing? After all what are we if not our beliefs. Blessings to all of am Yisrael
21. #6 Christy Re: The men on bleachers
Shalom   (11.07.09)
That was when they danced "mitzvah tantz" which takes place after the meal, the last 2-3 hours at the end of chassidic weddings. At this big wedding, the "mitzvah tantz" probably went on for double the amount of time. At a "mitzvah tantz" the Rabbis and other honorable men, as well as, other men from the family of the bride and groom dance with the bride with a "gartel" (a black rope chassidim wear during prayers). The rest of the people sit and watch and the men join along in the singing. This is a very interesting part of chassidic weddings. The very, very last dance at the "mitzvah tantz" is the groom and bride holding hands and dancing together for several minutes a slow, solemn dance. Then the bride goes back to her seat while the groom dances with the people who stayed till the end of the wedding. I’m sure you know that religious men and women are in separate rooms throughout the wedding. For the "mitzvah tantz" in chassidic weddings the bride, her family and the rest of the guest sit in the "men’s hall" and watch the men dance.
22. Avi, you are just plain jealous! Even Ynet, who nobody
Shalom   (11.07.09)
would accuse of chareidi sympathy can swallow this beautiful simcha and even write about it, but you who are a radical self-hating Jew, have trouble sharing in their happiness. How sad! You could have had the same beautiful simcha if you would have followed the path of your parents and grandparents. It’s never too late... Unlike festivals, stupidities and filth parades from non-chareidi parasites that is funded by the government which you have no problem with, the money paying for this event was solely from the chassidim. Not only did the government not pay for it but people who came from all over the world to join in their happiness supported the Israeli economy.
23. Taxes
Smith ,   TA, Israel   (11.08.09)
Its nice to see my tax money is being spent so well on ensuring the hassidic denizens of Netenya are able to enjoy the wedding of their cult leader's son. I concede he may have been brave in the Holocaust but starting and leading a cult at the expense of working Israeli people is unfair. And all this would come to an end if we decreed as a law, as in developed countries, that it is forbidden for a person of religious office to hold political office so we'll no longer have to have Rabbi's who are Mayor's. Conflict of interest? Perhaps, like the words accountability and deliberation they don't exist in the Hebrew language.

26. #21 - Thanks For Explanation
Christy ,   Boston, MA   (11.08.09)
It looked like they were all having a lot of fun! I was aware of the seating in separate rooms and also the reluctance to have women's pictures displayed. But, I didn't know what it was the men on the bleachers were singing and dancing to. Had quite a beat and was an infectious tune .. no wonder they all joined in! As a woman, I was disappointed not finding many pictures showing the women's side of things. I really wanted to see a close up of the bride's gown. But, it's against their tradition to show such things publicly, so I do understand.
27. #13 - That's why I asked
Christy ,   Boston, MA   (11.08.09)
I *did* read the article and assumed there was probably a buffet for everyone to have some food. However, the videos I saw only showed the main tables and those on the floor. 10,000 guests is a LOT. Even with the amount of food that was listed, I wasn't 100% sure if it would stretch to 10,000 guests - especially men. Men eat a LOT more than women do, especially at a grand occasion like this. When a grand rabbi's child is one of the principals, I also assume there are tons of very other important Jewish leaders from all over the world attending the event that *must* be fed. I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask what the custom may be. I've also never seen such a big wedding in my life. There are some towns in my state that have less than 10,000 people.
28. #23 Smith or are you Avi?
Shalom   (11.08.09)
You have nothing to worry about. Your taxes would only support filthy parades and other festivals and stupidities from non-chareidim, but would never give a single dime for holy events by orthodox Jews.
