31. Who? Shimon Peres...
NB ,   Israel   (11.06.09)
What's the big difference?
32. How about king Abdulla II of Jordan ?
Trumpeldor ,   eurabyeh   (11.06.09)
It would put a final end to the "palestinian "problem
33. # 6. I am a bit older than you are. I still remember
Abu Karim ,   Tul Karem, West Bank   (11.06.09)
haj amin al husseini (I was a child at the time). I still remember ahmed shuqeiri. And I remember of course abu amar (arafat). When I review our short history and the contribution of these leaders to our cause as Arabs of this land, can only conclude that all of them, without any exception have led us to no where. They have used each of us in advancing their own status in their own eyes. I must say, I agree with hisham, # 29. We should do all that we can at this point to integrate the people in ghaza into Egypt and to have Jordan - populated overwhelmingly by Palestinians - to negotiate with Israel and apply its rule in the West Bank as was the situation before the 1967 war. If the Arabs in Israel do better than we, under our own government (both in ghaza and west bank), I can't see why we wouldn't do better under the regimes of Mubarak and Hussein.
34. There are two possibilites
Sagi   (11.06.09)
and these are the only viable ones now and at any time in the future. King Abdullah of Jordan divides Judea and Samaria with Israel. Egypt takes control over Gaza. All Gazans become Egyptian citizens and all West Bankers become Jordanian citizens. Mark these words of wisdom, nothing else will ever happen, simply because it would not be practical from any point of view. Not that of the Jordanians nor that of the Egyptians and certainly not that of Israel. For the palestinians it would be their best bet ever. It will eventually happen because there is no other course.
35. To poster # 11 who articules it realistically. Thanks
Galia ,   Bat-Galim, Haifa   (11.06.09)
36. re 11 29 32 34: Israel need the Jordan valley for security
Bloodyscot ,   Dallas, Texas   (11.06.09)
Israel can not give up the Jordan valley, it is a natural tank and border defense. Giving up any land to Jordan would make eastern border almost impossible to defend against a massive wave of soldiers. 2 state solution with Israel keeping some control over Jordan valley a better option but with settlements a 2 state solution is almost too late without removing half of them. One state solution would destroy Israel being Jewish at some point or Apartheid system would be needed. The status quo is the best option for now but will lead to war in afew years.
37. Hamas will represent the Palestinian people.
RJBH ,   Methil   (11.06.09)

Answer : JACK TEITEL of course.
40. #31 THE BIG DIFFERENCE IS :
LAWRENCE RAP ARTISTE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (11.06.09)
Abbas is a patriot and loyal.
41. Addle #17 What I expect
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (11.06.09)
I expect that the Arabs fulfill their obligations under the treaties that they have signed. To date not a single obligation has ever been fulfilled. The only illegal settlements are ones that the Arabs have built on Jewish land. The Arabs have no legal claim to Judea, Gaza or Samaria. Whereas we do. Care to challenge any of those statements? I can cite chapter and verse, can you support your claim? Bet not.
42. Wow! Look at all of the realistic Palestinians here!
Adam ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (11.06.09)

44. Israel is grooming Barghouti like it groomed dahlan
Gisele ,   beirut   (11.06.09)
Dahlan was chased by Israel , his name shouted on loudspeakers in the refugiee camp he lived in , then he was jailed , and suddenly Israel turns a traitor into a HERO . it was planned , so after he left jail he suddenly becomes rich and influencal , and is very friendly with the Israeli army and shabak . i have seen hundreds of photos that proved it . same with barghouti , israel is planning to replace Hamas with him , they already turned him into a hero among the people of fatah . Poor souls if only they knew

47. Mustafa Barghouti is our choice
Nour Toukan ,   Palestine   (11.06.09)
...because unlike the PA/Fatah camp he has the courage to admit the 2-state solution is as dead as a doornail. The only practical solution is for Palestinians everywhere (Territories, diaspora, and inside the existing state of israel) to unite under one new umbrella, a reinvigorated PLO, and demand a one state solution which would bring justice and equality to all including Jews. Mustafa Barghouti is a humanist, a realist, and a brave and educated man. We need more honest like him to build our society and less corrupt scumbags like Dahlan and his ilk. In fact Dahlan should be tried for his decades of collaboration with the racist regime. You don't negotiate with racists. You boycott, divest, and impose sanctions on them. THAT is the paradigm shift occuring, and it is of Israel's own making. That's right Israelis, you shot yourselves in the foot and I can't contain my joy at your own foolishness. I'm going back to my country, at LONG last.
48.  the question is..
OZ   (11.06.09)
who should....? neither of the 2 pictured should be even a consideration.... one is a convicted ,jailed terroristand the other is a hamula cheif , a gangster with diplmas.... the new leader ought to be- pragmatic ,realistic, free of corruption, and... ahh never mind, let's wait another 20 years for one.... maybe.
49. 11 and 25 are incorrect on Resolution 242
Tarik ,   Boston, MA USA   (11.06.09)
The dominant interpretation of resolution 242 is that it calls for Israeli withdrawal from all the territories it occupied in 1967. The interpretation you present was considered and rejected unanimously in the 2004 International Court of Justice ruling, confirming that the correct interpretation of the resolution suggests full Israeli withdrawal. That ruling also clarified that a Palestinian state on all of the West Bank and Gaza is the intended aim of the resolution.
50. To: No. 49
Sarah B ,   New York / Saviyon   (11.07.09)
Really? Interesting. Not sure how the ICJ arrived at Palestinian statehood when Resolution 242 merely calls for "achieving a just settlement of the refugee problem." I believe that most scholars agree that the phrase "a just settlement of the refugee problem" (composed in November 1967) was intended to require Lebanon and Jordan to dismantle the refugee camps and absorb the refugees. Jordan actually did just that, only to throw them out of the country several years later for fomenting terrorism. We all know what happened in Lebanon. Do not impute the acts and intent of the current United Nations upon resolutions crafted over thirty years ago by a far more serious and august body than the United Nations constitutes today. For the record, the role of the ICJ is "to settle , in accordance with international law, legal disputes submitted to it by States and to give advisory opinions on legal questions referred to it by authorized United Nations organs and specialized agencies." "International law" means,. quite simply, the Hague Conventions, which are treaties legally binding upon the nations signatory, in part or in whole, to the Conventions. "Advisory opinions" are exactly that -- advisory. In addition, they are not enforceable. Finally, UN resolutions are not binding in the way that international conventions are; neither are they enforceable. I believe the Framers of the United Nations charter were wise individuals who took precautionary measures to limit the power of the United Nations PRECISELY because they realized that a day might come when the United Nations would be reduced to the loathsome and despicable rabble that it is today. I assure you that the current United Nations is the furthest thing imaginable from the United Nations that Trygvie Lie and Dag Hammarskjold envisioned and worked so hard to bring into being.
51. "Israel need(s) the Jordan valley for security" indeed!
Eitan ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (11.07.09)
Which is why UN Security Council Resolution 242, as is, does not specify the contour of the territory to be ruled by Jordan in the future. Israel, for both security and national-heritage reasons must and will retain control of certain parts of Judea and Samaria. The Jordan Valley is certainly one such area as some of the mountain tops. These details should be left for the Jordanian and Israeli negotiators to deal with by way of accommodating each other. After all, Israel has had peace - or at least a state of non-belligerence - for the past 15 years and with Egypt for 30 years. The reason, the excellent way in which UN Security Council Resolution 242 was designed. It is time to kiss goodby the Oslo process with all its subsequent additions and changes and to return to the basics that have proven to be solid grounds for peace-making. The Jewish people, within and without Israel, has been eager, very eager to achieve an accommodation of peaceful coexistence with its Arab neighbors since at least the 19th century. The only basis on which Israel, being the nation-state of the Jewish people, has been able to do so has been UNSC Resolution 242. Let us hope Arabs, especially Muslim-Arabs, will rise above the drive to drive the Jews into the sea and see the light in this resolution and its implementation.
52. # 49 Nonsense
Sagi   (11.07.09)
53. How about peres?
jason white ,   afula,israel   (11.07.09)
He worries a lot about the arabs trespassing on our Jewish land.
54. Israel has never negotiated with the PA
SD ,   London   (11.07.09)
but with the PLO. Look at the signatories to all agreements. If Abu Mazen remains chairman of the PLO nothing changes. Apart from the identity of the mayor of Ramallah.
55. #11 Nonsensical conclusion
(11.07.09)
How can you apply UN Resolution 242 when Jordan and Egypt don't want the Palestinian areas? Isn't it obvious that there must be a new basis for the resolution of this territorial problem?
56. To: No. 55
Sarah B ,   New York / Saviyon   (11.08.09)
Assuming you are correct that Jordan and Egypt do not want the Palestinian areas, it is not an insurmountable problem. Gazans are Egyptian citizens. The Arab residents of Judea and Samaria are Jordanian citizens. The Arab Palestinians in question can be lovingly returned to the lands of their citizenship. I am sure that a great joy shall resound throughout the land once they have returned home.
57. Better see it berore it's pulled.

58. To: Ron at No. 57
Sarah B ,   New York / Saviyon   (11.08.09)
I have sent the link that you were gracious enough to provide to all 100 United States senators and all 435 members of the House of Representatives. They should, after all, be familiar with the true nature of the man who claims the post of President of the United States. I cannot thank you enough.
59. To: No. 55
Sarah B ,   New York / Saviyon   (11.08.09)
Fair point. I guess the so-called "Palestinians" (i.e., dislocated Arabs) should find someplace else to lead their lives, such as it is. There is no "territorial problem." Six wars have resolved that, sweetie-pie. Take your anti-Semitism elsewhere, won't you?
60. How about David Irving. He too is a ShoahDenier
