LAWRENCE RAP ARTISTE ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (11.09.09)
I ,as a Man,regularly go to the wall wearing stockings and suspenders and matching bra.I feel so good.I have started a protest group called : 'Chicks With Dicks For The Wall." Seriously, the good Rabbi is 100 % right. These stupid feminist fascists are distorting reality, nature and religion. They look absurd and ridiculous wearing their yarmulkes (Kippot) and their prayer-shawls.Try as they might they are wasting their time and their energy because the rule of the universe is : MEN ARE MEN AND WOMEN ARE WOMEN AND NEVER THE TWAIN SHALL MEET...VIVE LE DIFFERENCE.

Enough already with this stone age clown. He does however to show great potential as a standupist.
8. Yosef
chaim ,   Israel   (11.09.09)
I would rather hear and read from what HaShem says than listen to a man interpret what another man said that he interpreted what another said. God hears the prayers of women and knows the heart. Let me make this very clear. You men who doven, wear all the pompous clothes and and kiss rings, when you go to the wall, just be sure to know that HaShem, Blessed be He, is looking at your heart and intentions....not to see religious garb or to see if it is a man who prays, same as He does to ALL. That includes women. I thank HaShem for women who truly pray from the heart. May they be Blessed as they back their men, children, and country, in true prayer at the wall or in the living room of their house.
9. awe of G-d is your motive...
yoni ,   tel aviv   (11.09.09)
try to convince yourself of that one... The men in the reform movement dont wear tefillin but the women do. The men dont wear the tallit but the women do. The men dont make minyanim but the women do... I wonder if that is because the women just have so much awe of G-d... If you had awe of G-d you probably would dress a little more modestly and be a little more humble about taking what is not meant for you
10. Reply to # 2 there isnt a ghost of a chance
Avi ,   Israel   (11.09.09)
Im gay, i love women my best friends are women and yes the mother of my children is a woman ! Hate to break the stereo type ghostey but not all gay men wear dresses i think you mean drag queens or transvestites, Besides that Ayatollah look the purple glasses and robes, so last season darling.
11. Rabbi Yosef and Women of Wall
Zelda ,   Israel   (11.09.09)
What this article misses is that while adding in a throw-away condemnation of the women, Rabbi Yosef is actually saying women can fulfill the requirement of kiddush by making it themselves (which basically also means they can make it for eachother). This is not groundbreaking but certainly not standard in the haredi community. As anyone with experience in the ultra-traditional world knows, whenever they make a small step towards change, they simultaneously pledge allegience to the old ways. That's just the way it goes. As a woman who comes from that world - it can be frusterating but its not misognystic so much as fearful.
12. Time for Rabbi Oveda to retire
rebecca ,   Modiin   (11.09.09)
There are things that just dont need to be said. These woman MAY be wrong, but they are not doing any harm, and they are connecting with G-d in their way. Lashon Hara includes not hurting peoples feelings unnecessarily.
13. Rabbi Ovadia
Barbara ,   Israel   (11.09.09)
Hey, it was a stupid woman that gave birth to you ! Can you up that ?
14. #9 Yoni, you said it well! and #7 Phillip
Shalom   (11.09.09)
Whom are you referring to "stone age clowns"? Rabbis who keep the traditional laws or the Clowny women?
15. To the "WOW": You want the Rabbi to meet you?
Shalom   (11.09.09)
Are you dressed appropriately betzniut and modesty to meet such a holy personality in the Jewish world? Is all your hair covered? Do you keep Taharat Hamishpachah, Shabbat, Kashrut and everything else pertaining to women? Are you all such G-d fearing women that you need to take upon yourself laws pertaining to men in addition to laws pertaining to women? Are you perhaps related to that Taliban Mom?
16. Rabbi, so u r saying that Rashi's daughters were stupid?
(11.09.09)
after all we know that Rashi's daughters laid Tefillin and wore Talitot. You are saying that we are stupid, if we accept your position then we must also say that Rashi's daughters were also stupid!
17. Clearly Rabbi ur late wife brought u hesed &
(11.09.09)
since you miss her so you have forgotten hesed and remain within the tight lines of Tzedek. Please do be aware that Tzedek alone without hesed brings injustice! And it does seem that your words as reported in this newspaper are quite unjust. So very sad!
18. To #6 - Name 1 Jewish honor killing or shut up
Abe Abeowitz ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (11.09.09)
19. It's a feeling of power
Shalom   (11.09.09)
Q: Why do we put on tefillin? A: Because H' told us to - simple! Q: Why are women putting on tefillin? A: Because it makes them feel good Spot the difference? If you want to do what H' wants - start with the basics - keep Shabbat; keep kosher; cover the majority of your hair; cover your arms and knees; don't speak slander - then we'll talk!
20. It is time for Rabbi Josef Ovadia to retire.
Rivkah   (11.09.09)
Women are separated from men at the wall. How foolish for him to think the prayers of women are less effective than the prayers of men or less precious in the heart of Y'hovah. Confucius likens women to the larger vessel that the smaller more fragile male vessel rests on. Rabbi Ovadia needs to see women as Confucius does since he is blind to the value Y'hovah gives them. If women were so unworthy of Y'hovah's regard, why are they a part of His plan of salvation and resurrection? I see men differently from the way Rabbi Ovadia see them since I have seen so much damage caused by men having worked in the health care profession for decades. I don't think there will be very many men in heaven, so many are unrepentant fornicators, liars, thieves, who dishonor parents and do not provide for their own, who abandon women they have seduced or raped and have to be forced to support their children, who divorce their wives for non-biblical reasons to marry someone else or to shack up with someone else. Men lie, slander, libel, and perjure women who loved them, and then they laugh about it. They are a stench in the nostrils of the Most High and I believe hell had to be enlarged to contain them all Revelation says adulterERS go to hell, which is a reference to male sexual offenders who usually go unpunished while the women are ostracized and ridiculed and abandoned and go unsupported. Rabbi Yehoshua said to let the little children come to him. There are male and female children, not just male. There are male and female adults, not just male. Women are adoring Y'hovah to pray at the Kotel.
21. Actually, 93.7% of all women are legally stupid
Phil Errup ,   Canada   (11.09.09)
22. #16How dare you compare yourselves to Rashi's holy daughters
Shalom   (11.09.09)
Are you as modest and G-d fearing as Rashi’s daughters were? Do you have holy children like Rashi’s daughters had that enlightened the world and are still enlightening the world? Rabbenu Tam, Rashbam, etc. Are you even orthodox? Can you and all other WOWs honestly answer all questions in #15 positively or are you just interested in this particular mitzvah to show your feminism and that you are more religious than your Reform counterparts? Read #9, who couldn’t have said it better.
23. to #10 nop some drag queens r straight
ghostq   (11.09.09)
lol and you call me racist :)
24. Rabbi Ovadia: Not providing for one's own is denying the
Rivkah   (11.09.09)
faith. The government has to provide for males in Israel who devote their lives to learning the Torah and Tanakh which means the religious males do not provide for their own. Their wives work since the government stipend is not sufficient. So you see, men can only be holy if they don't work. But women can be holy and work and provide for their own, even the stupid males who belittle them.
25. Is the circus in town again?
James ,   Herzeliya   (11.09.09)
Ovadia is a clown in a woman's dress
26. Isn't high time God called this holy man to Himself?
Nemesis   (11.09.09)
27. Addition to #9
Atsoff   (11.09.09)
In N.W. London while walking to an orthodox shul one windy cold Shabbat, I passed smartly suited and overcoated bare headed(and very bald) men accompanied by dressed to kill women in flimsy dresses( brrr) hanging on for dear life, to their huge Ascot style hats, on their way to a different 'shul'. Whether reform or something else, I don't know. Being an (ex brit) well brought up young lady (ha ha) I said Shabbat Shalom terribly politely, with my best british style snooty fake smile, but I guess their mummy and daddy warned them never to talk to 'strangers'... lol
28. #13 Stupid woman
(11.09.09)
Rabbi Obadia Yosef did say all women are stupid, just the stupid women who go to the Western Wall and don phylacteries. He is actually being kind for not imputing evil motives for these women, just stupidity. Actually these women are not even practicing Judaism. For instance, some of them pray to a female god force called the Shechina. Disgusting.
29. :: How sad
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (11.09.09)
Rabbi Ovadia Yosef's remarks and mentality are no different than those of the Taliban, in fact both the Islamic and Judaic religions are very backward and repressive when it comes to the treatment of women. Such remarks only underscore the fact that religion is a throwback to more primitive, superstitious times. I also say that domination over women through religion is an affirmation of manhood in the minds of those men who do not allow equality of the sexes.
30. Just leave it alone....
Lily ,   Binyamina   (11.09.09)
Why do any of you care what these women wish to do and how they wish to experience their religiousness. Does it impede? Does is harm? Does is disrupt? NO. Rabbi Ovadia should have been discussing and condemning the appalling and gravely disturbing acts of one Eliyor Chen rather than picking a bone with women who want nothing more than something of a voice within their religion. Don't worry, it's still an all boys club and we women are still behind a segregating curtain not really complaining. Stupid no, tolerant, but with a voice, yes.
